Here is a current sunk ships list. Of course Yamato is highly speculative and likely not sunk. Fuso and Ise are not on the list but are in great danger of sinking if they have not done so already.

We've done a great job of preserving our carriers, but the Empire has done a pretty good job in that department too. Those hits on the IJN carriers achieved by the Charge of the Light Cruiser Brigade actually mean something. They are still in business but they need repairs and are more vulnerable until they get them.

Our subs came up empty but continued to harass damaged Japanese warships in the Andaman Sea.

Quiet in China.

Almost quiet at and over the sea off Burma. Aside from submarine attacks (ours) there was only this night action. Valiant and Queen Elizabeth are both out of main battery ammo and will head back to Ramree Island. QE also has a bank of AA guns knocked out, but such things are a luxury right now. Caradoc and the (tiny, AM based) ASW group will remain on patrol outside of Pegu. Richelieu will take up close escort at Pegu. There are no Imperial surface units seen heading their way, but there weren't the first night either. The carriers and the Renown group will arrive at Ramree Island tomorrow. DAW HQ certainly must realize that the time to catch any assault forces afloat has passed.

The air attacks against ground targets are going all out, with accompanying losses of those raiders flying low level strikes. SE of Prome we made some progress against the the troops withdrawing toward Rangoon. Our troops have low disruption so the attack will continue tomorrow.

The 2nd British Division crossed the river and is now between Pegu and Moulmein, but did not make a shock attack. There are two unidentified enemy units in hex, and one must be the engineer unit identified by flying debris in previous bombing runs. The 2nd attacks tomorrow. The 82nd West African Division and the 4th USMC Division are setting target for Tavoy and moving to follow the 2nd British Division into Moulmein. The heavy artillery needs another day or two to cross into Rangoon.

Three convoys at Pegu have finished unloading troops but still have supply. They will pull up anchors and head back to Ramree Island and unload supplies there. Pegu is now being supplied by land both from Toungoo and through Rangoon - we now control east and northwest hex sides at Rangoon - and so has more supply than is on the ships anyway. One of the other convoys has a few devices remaining on three ships; the last has a few thousand load factor of troops/devices for several units. CVE Shah docked at Ramree Island, off loaded her air groups, and is now making for Colombo. CVE Begum will do the same tomorrow, plus pump out the minor flooding which remains with flotation damage at 71(61).

Finally, Indomitable has arrived at Karachi, and Victorious at Colombo. Indomitable needs about 2.5 months of upgrades, especially to her AA suite, but Victorious is ready for action. Supposedly only a size 5 shipyard is required, so I'm going to see if Bombay can do the work. She does bring with her three air groups (Victorious' air groups are already in theatre). Victorious is heading for Ramree Island with her air group of 36x Seafire IIC, 12x Barracuda II, and 6x Barracuda II.

Allied naval bombardments.

With continued recon, Singapore Repair Shipyard now shows at 15(36). Fighter strength there has doubled, now over 100.

The invasion convoys for Jesselton and Kudat will move right on their objectives tonight/tomorrow or as close as they can get. It is doubtful that they will have time remaining to begin unloading troops. The fleet will take station at sea between those two bases, with cruiser TFs just farther out to sea.

Here is a look at the hex side control in the Burma battle area. The enemy stack SW of Toungoo is too strong to attack now, but they are being bombarded by artillery and struck from the air, which should make movement uneven. When they start to thin out our attacks on the stragglers will begin.

It looks like the Empire is sending more ships to the Indian Ocean. Perhaps our next adventure on Borneo will cause them to change course?

Not very pleasant reading from a JFB point of view. I didn't think you could invade Pegu...I hope that is a feature of the extended map you are playing.

I don't think so, but I haven't checked. It has port 0(0), so even after taking it there are limitations. My situation is good for it because of the proximity of other troops to Pegu so land-supply routes can be opened quickly. BTW this turn is was 97 or 98% toward level 1 port, but it will never move much stuff across the docks.

Rangoon is obviously a bastion and the idea is to make it last as long as possible. I'm taking measures to overcome it 'quickly' but without diverting everything and getting bogged down. Not sure how long it will take.

Moulmein might be a somewhat quick capture, and that should help.

Our subs got a TK and we lost a sub due to prior damage.

We made a ground attack in between Kunming and Tsuyung to try and clear out the enemy sitting astride the road. It went poorly, just the first of several stymied ground attacks today. We're going to rearrange some things and bring in the two armoured units at Kunming in place of some of the Chinese infantry that is not so effective assaulting prepared positions. Kunming will still have an Australian division plus Chinese troops and fortifications at level 4. The 9th Australian Division, which took part in today's attack, is in perfect shape.

Lots of action in the air over Burma and the sea. The Empire saw fit to commit many Franks to LRCAP forces moving toward Rangoon and it might have helped as our odds were cut to 1 to 2 with higher casualties. But ours will recover. There were also raids on our CVE at Ramree Island (a lone plane lived to make an attack run) and on our convoys at Pegu (not even close). Our strikes on two retiring damaged CL had just a little better luck, landing one bomb. We are sending Caradoc after them tonight. The 2nd British Division made a successful attack and is now moving on Moulmein.

The two convoys at Pegu are nearly done unloading troops. Meanwhile, three of the four artillery units being sent from Pegu to Rangoon have arrived there and will begin bombarding tomorrow. Imperial troops from the north have been seen arriving in Rangoon, swelling the ranks of defenders there. CVE Begum's fighter groups have put ashore at Ramree Island and while only partly pumped out she will head for Chittagong. Better facilities wait there, and when Begum leaves for Colombo she will not be as easily seen and tracked. There are three unknown units SE of Moulmein so that objective will have reinforcement before the 2nd British Div arrives. Valiant and Queen Elizabeth will put to sea with the intention of being on station to bombard when the 2nd crosses the river. The carriers at Ramree Island have topped up with planes and pilots, but some of the pilots are green and sent directly in OTJ. A Commonwealth group has one pilots slot open and it will stay that way because there are no Commonwealth pilots in the pipeline in this (older!) version of the scenario. Fuel will arrive for the carriers tomorrow. AFAIK that has been fixed in later versions. Pegu has built a size 1 port and will now switch to airfield construction.

Our scout DB reported several hits on a CL hundreds of miles to the north, but concentrated strikes all missed the fast turning devil. Weather aided the target.

The 158th IR crossed the river into Balikpapan and was soundly thrashed. Now half disabled with 85% disruption, they will hunker down and hope to withstand any counter attack. They were aided by a bombardment and the daily air strikes. They were hampered by a well-timed Betty strike, but even though it got through most of it was destroyed en route and it might be more of a useful excuse than a reason. The defense at Balikpapan is stronger than anticipated. As long as the regiment holds on, they will eventually take the base and the timing does not matter.

Here is a look at the South China Sea. The fleet carriers and battleships will move to the position indicated. The escort carriers and the cruiser screen will stay where they are.

I don't think so, but I haven't checked. It has port 0(0)

Double checked, you are right. Glad I always had a generous garrison there.

A garrison is good and I expected as much. That's why I brought so much to the party. Even if the garrison were three times as strong we would have broken through without much trouble. Stronger would have taken longer. I think it's just a consequence of defending forward, there simply aren't enough troops to be strong enough everywhere.

I also wonder if the expectation was for a deeper end run. Dunno. Some day we'll talk about it.

Yeah, his lifeline is about shot now. There'll be a lot of burning ships tomorrow in the South China Sea.

When I started planning the Pegu and Cam Ranh Bay operations I was hoping they could come off nearly simultaneously to overload the IJN and perhaps even make them rush from Pegu to Cam Ranh Bay since it is clearly even more of a threat. That is probably happening without having gotten as far as Cam Ranh Bay. Owing to arriving at Pegu with tactical surprise, the IJN came in piecemeal and the limited Allied naval forces there were able to deal with them much better than I feared.

Now bases are being established along the South China Sea and USN carriers are in the South China Sea, and the IJN has just fought a major action so can do much less about it. I don't know the whereabouts of the three Kongos and I suppose there are still various heavy cruisers about, but we have at least another day or two before the carriers have replenished planes and made their way forward.

Now I'm starting to wonder how fast I can pull off landings at Cam Ranh Bay? I have no recon even though it was ordered to start.

How will you deal with the fortress at CRB [4X138mm and 4X 75mm DP guns]?

I figure to bombard with old BB. But mostly, just overwhelm them with a big landing!

Pegu doesn't need a garrison...but it is so central a rapid paratroop strike could cause real damage which is why I always had it generously garrisoned.

How much shipping have you bagged west of Cam Ranh Bay? Masterstroke...now don't let anything thru.

Poor Japan, always picked on.

Aside from subs, not much yet. Mostly what comes to mind is that tanker convoy that got too close and was hit hard by B-25 attack models (flying from Jolo) several days back. I think that some Avengers got there too but the weather fouled their attacks. If you believe the scouting reports then there were multiple hits on that CL and one on a DD, but reports of hits by planes on naval search are among the most exaggerated AFAIK. I'm really hoping to intercept that convoy but I don't know what he will do with it. He could pull it back or northwest and I'll miss it, but I'm hoping that he figures me to do what I have done all or pretty all times previously and keep all the carriers close to the invasion convoys. If he keeps it going east or even northeast I should get a good shot at it.

Obviously that ignores what the IJN might do...

So I just pulled the Intel Monkey report for Cam Ranh Bay. After chopping it and slight editing to (hopefully) make it post well, here it is. I am fairly amazed that there might not be much of anything there just now!

Here are the Allied units preparing for Cam Ran Bay. With the exception of the 11th Airborne Division, all preparation is 100% or within a couple of days of it.

So I guess the long and short of it is, it's time to start shoving all the troops possible onto all the assault transport available and get them on the beach at Cam Ranh Bay ASAP!

Our Rgt at Balikpapan was not attacked, which is just as well because none of our bombers flew against the enemy units there. The 158th is now 60% disrupted and 42% fatigued, and up to 53 AV. The B-29 have been stood down as the emergency strike (which did not happen today due to weather??) will not be needed. The medium bombers (none of which attacked today) retain their strike orders.

Recon at Cam Ranh Bay is hampered by weather, but early indications are that there is very little there. 2 units, a few hundred troops, no aircraft. Many CL just upgraded are leaving Pearl. The CVL will be a few days more. The upgrades for the Essex CV and the repairs on the carriers recently damaged will by put off until after the Cam Ranh Bay invasion. All available APA and AKA and many others are heading to the Manado, et al area. Many additional surface forces are being rushed to the scene. Manado will be a size 4 port soon and although I'm not sure it will make seize 5 before the invasion, it should be size 5 by the time the fleet needs rearming after the invasion. Additional AKE are on the way.

The Cam Ranh Bay invasion will not be the smoothly orchestrated operation that was intended. Instead, we will land with only the portion of the force that we can get there quickly enough to take advantage of the absence of significant enemy forces. The remaining forces will follow.

Iwo Jima base has maxed out at 4 airfield and 4 port, and will not build fortifications.

Here are today's ship losses.

The situation in the South China Sea. The fleet carriers and their battleships are moving to a position just NE of the CVE. One of the Japanese TF shown is a convoy but the rest are remnants or small convoys. Our objective is to preserve the fleet in fighting form until we have a large force of troops on the coast of the continent with support and supply to stay.]

DD Craven, Shell hits 3, on fire
CL Toungoo

Wow - not only did those cruisers have laser guidance for their ordinance, they had very deep magazines! I bet they are even out of 5" AA ammo!
I presume CL Toungoo is a Cleveland class renamed, and Ammen and Fullam are Sumner class DDs with the 6X 5" guns?

What react setting did you have for the TF?

The Singapore Repair Shipyard recons as 16(35) today compared with 15(36) yesterday, so the Empire is making repairs!

Probably forgot to turn them off from earlier. Could be costly though.
