Does Matrix Games also want to alienate any part of its gamer base over politics? Their association with The Wargamer, which allows their writers to openly insult people who have differing political views would seem to indicate Yes.

"And unlike the average American conservative who fervently believes that Islam is the root of all planetary evil, we military enthusiasts knew that ISIS was nothing more than mercenary force all along."

"Despite what conservatives might think, we know that, unless the local folks have an iron in the fire, the best you can do is stave off a looming disaster. "

"Jeff Ward is a free-lance writer, radio show host, and former opinion columnist for the Sun-Times Media Group. He got hooked on wargames immediately after he picked up a copy of Avalon Hill’s Midway from Hobbymodels in Evanston, Illinois in 1972. You can reach Jeff at jeffnward@comcast.net"

Seeing as how you are the only one who has posted a comment on his article, I would think that the 'gamer base' that you describe is a 'gamer base' of one. I think the company will survive without you.

I read the article. My advice would be to not go to the site anymore. I stopped going there a long time ago. I go to sites to read about PC wargames and wargames in general. I don't go to read some jerk trying to push his political opinions under the guise of an article on wargaming. I'm conservative and I'm pretty sure he has no idea what I think about anything. So you can automatically chalk it up to some liberal nut job trying to be clever. The Wargamer has become a pretty irrelevant site in recent times anyway. Certainly not like it used to be. Grogheads is what Wargamer once was.

IIRC, there was a hidden forum for that stuff as it got nasty.

As opposed to the conservative nut jobs trying to be clever?

Do you *really* want to go there? Here?

We have no control over what writers or reviewers choose to write at The Wargamer and I have no idea if they have any policy on political commentary. It's a free country, so perhaps they let their writers write whatever they want to write. I have been enjoying their articles and reviews overall though and I would assume this article only represents the views of that particular writer.

This being a forum focused on the games that unite us though, politics here is off limits, so I'm locking this thread.

I will say though, that having read the referenced article I also thought that while the article had an interesting premise, that line was a fairly gratuitous dig and it continued to take some political sides after that. ISIS is not a problem exclusive to one political party. I think the writer could have made his point without any political references and I think it does show his cards that he chose to write it that way.

Regards,

- Erik
