Have just read this absolutely shocking report.

I have seen the odd case of suicide (murder) reported previously on episodes of Air Crash Investigation; absolutely inexplicable why someone who wants to kill themselves decides to take innocent people with them. doubly sad when there are so many children aboard as in this case

Obviously there may be more to it than suicide, but whatever the motive, what a tragic waste of life....

RIP to the victims of flight 4U9525.

Maybe that is the case, there has been an increasing air accidents in recent years for various reasons that are not exposed to us.

Absolutely shocking. The co-pilot crashed the plane

The pilot was outside the cabin (W.C. I guess), when he tried to enter the cabin it was locked. The audio shows he was banging the locked door: I guess he understood something weird was going on.

Poor people

Simply horrible.

The US has a rule that there must always be 2 people in the cockpit.

Our budget carrier easyjet has announced that today. Does that mean they have to have three pilots on-board though? Presumably there is a minimum aircraft/passenger size or the cost would be high for the smaller carriers.

I'm not sure, but off-duty air crew or flight attendants may count as the 2nd person.

Found out yesterday that I knew two of the people that died. A man and his wife. She was manager of a local perfumery her husband was a lawyer. Both were customers at the shop where I work, in fact the woman worked just opposite my place of work. Her staff had to work Wednesday and you could tell that they were still shocked. They had the thousand yard stare. They had two children 14 and 18 if I am correct. No idea what will happen with them now.

4 people from the neighbour town were killed in that flight.

Tuesday it was just a plane crash, Wednesday the victims had faces, not a nice feeling.

Within a few minutes whole world collapses for some people and they don't realize it at the time.
It must be even worse, now they realize it was no accident.

My thoughts and feelings go out to their families, friends and colleagues.

I heard on the news this morning that the cockpit access is controlled by code but even that can be overridden from inside. I also heard people on the news say that the "2 person min" rule for lack of a better phrase didn't require 2 pilots, the other person could be a flight attendant.

I've heard people speculate that the co pilot was incapacitated, (say stroke for instance) after the pilot left the cockpit. But in that case it's not clear if the door could be blocked from opening. Also, there is continued speculation on the mental state of the co pilot. I heard today that he had taken a break during his training, without any specifics.

According to reports I have read the pilot had a code to get back in - but this can be (understandably in the case of a hijacking) overridden from the cockpit.

The co-pilot put the aircraft on a descent path - had he simply passed out or become incapacitated in some way, the aircraft would have carried on flying - not started a rapid descent.

It now seems factual that the co-pilot was treated for depression in 2008 and as a result had to later re-apply to become a pilot again.

News sites now reporting the co-pilot had a medical condition & was being pulled. Apparently he was hiding this from the airline.

The Bild newspaper says the co-pilot was going to marry his GF on next year... But they ended the relationship the day before the crash...

What's known so far is, that...

.) As soon as the plane reached it's cruising flight level, one pilot, said to be the senior pilot, left the cabin, supposedly to go to the toilet.

.) The remaining pilot, said to be the 27yr old co-pilot, locked the door by pushing the door-switch to the "lock" position, and then set the auto-pilot to carry out a descent. The door-switch is located on the panel between the seats of the pilots. The auto-pilot is located at he top of the front-panel - two very different positions, which makes a accidental manipuation (caused by fainting for example) very unlikely.

.) On the voice-recorder, breathing was heard until the plane crashed. Also it was heard that the pilot which was outside the cabin, knocked on the door, then tried to use violence to open it.

.) Only the voice-recorder was yet found, the black-box which records all the techical stuff, is still missing.

So the authorities in France say that the co-pilot willingly crashed the plane on purpose.

I don't care a single second about the motives of that pilot. I don't care whether he was mentally ill, sad because of his GF, or simply was a lunatic - what he has done is nothing less than mass-murder. He killed 149 people, just because of some personal stuff completely his own. He is no better than some terrorist. He is scum.
