As you can see I like the lighter, quick fix games a lot better. I like to settle down and play a scenario in a couple hours. That said I wouldn't mind giving this a whirl. I did read somewhere that someone completed a turn in less than 10 minutes. I could to that. I would bet the context of that statement was a time period that involved little going on (e.g. As the German player in the '43 campaign after Sicily you've probably already stationed your aircraft and units where you want and you're just waiting for the next Allied shoe to drop, but I wouldn't want anyone to buy the game expecting that was a typical turn). quote:
I know it's SUPER deep but is it easy enough to get into and play? I don't mind starting a game that takes a long time to play, but I'm must not sure I want to manage so much minutia and spend an hour on a single turn. There is a lot of a minutiae you can hand off to the AI (automatic air directive creation, even automatic rebasing of aircraft, automatic handling of sub-units (offmap units like battalions and regiments that are either attached to HQs or on-map units), but not taking the reins on those things would put you at a disadvantage if you were interested in pvp (and by that may not matter to you at all). I would put this game on the upper end of the 'grognard' scale. You might have some fun with some of the smaller scenarios, but the list price is pretty steep for just those. Play style is going to make a difference too. I play slow just because I like to mull over things. When I get a turn back from an opponent I usually open it up, look over the map, then save it and close it to let my mind digest what opportunities have arisen, or disappeared, and formulate a response in the background of my mind while I'm doing other (less interesting) things. Then I'll fire the turn back up when I'm free and see what I can apply.
