....Well, here goes nothin' - my first original scenario.

It's inspired by a brief mention of a fight at the beginning of Sir John Hackett's The Third World War: The Untold Story, where three B-52Ds get sent to whack a Soviet outpost in Conakry, Guinea. As it turns out, Sir John had a few details wrong which made for a far-too-easy scenario.

I think I've corrected that.

Just a heads up - the magazine loads for the USSR/Guinea side (computer controlled anyways) aren't right, but as the total scenario length is only an hour, it's not that much of a problem. I am also having a heck of a time figuring out the Actions tree to get victory points properly allocated, but the side briefing lists the targets and priorities. I'll say this - a few dozen alpha and beta tests, and I'm still not able to get 100% of the VCs, though I've certainly been able to run up an unqualified victory. On the other hand, you can have your backside handed to you in a most impressive fashion. Let's put it this way - it ain't as easy as Sir John makes it sound.

Please enjoy, and thoughts/comments are appreciated!

Hi
The Third World War books by Sir John Hackett are great reads and sources for scenario design, despite being written in the late 70s.
It´s true that not all of his predictions become true, but he was a WW2 veteran and continued as an officer in the postwar years, which gave him an unique knowledge of the geopolitics and possible war strategies to be used by both sides.
Thank you for considering him as a source. I´d like to create some of those scenarios myself.
I´ll play your scenario now.

Hi:

I´ve tried several times with different flight profiles, some a little suicidal, but I won´t give up details now to avoid spoiling
Those bombers in the platform are hard to hit.
Bagged a MiG with tailguns on two opportunities.
I´ll keep trying.
Nice small scenario for those wanting to learn about conventional bombing with big bombers.

Saludos

Patmanaut,

Took me a minute to find things, but finally got here. Glad you enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun to put together. One thing that may help to keep in mind - when SAC laid down an OPORDER (I was with the 379 BMW from '78 to '84), it was expected to be followed to the letter. Sometimes, that didn't work out - see also the first part of Operation LINEBACKER II.

And good hunting on the MiGs - that is a VERY hard kill to get.

Mike

Hi Mike
I´ve played again and got a modest success.
Despite losing 2 bombers I´ve nailed 5 x Bears on the tarmac.
You need to link the actions to triggers and events in the editor in order to add the victory points to the score, otherwise there´s zero points.
I have no idea how to send the 'TALON RPT TALON' signal to the SAC, maybe you can make it as an action+trigger+event.
You metioned something about a refuel flight on the trip back, but I could not find it.
The nice thing about this scenario (and CMANO in general) is that every replay is different from the previous one.
