I have that on a DVD that is two sided but when you turn it over to the second side it automatically reverts it to the English version regardless if you stated it as the German version on side one.

Very frustrating and mood destroying.

Yep, the only way to watch this film and virtually all foreign films is in their native language. You just lose so much watching a dubbed film. This one is four hours and I just never seem to notice the time going by. One of the best ever made.

Got the long one on DVD, too. Thankfully it's all in German. Tried watching it in dubbed English, but didn't like it. Lots of awkward dialogue and mistranslations for the sake of lip-synching.

Much better to see it all in Deutsche.

If ever get a chance, chech out museum of science and industry in chicago, they have WWII boat and impressive exhibit about convoy battles in WWII

Das Boot wasn't dubbed all the actors spoke English each scene was shot twice first in German, then in English. Great film.
