The graphic quality of the screenshots is horrible on my rig. Some of the white text is actually illegible. I'd like to buy the game but not if it's going to look like this on my machine. How can I test this?

Well, graphics, animations, sounds, etc aren't a strong point, but that can be improved easily in future updates, and I believe it will. Western Civilization has proven in the past they strongly support their games. That being said, IMHO this battle system is what Gary Grigsby's West/East Front system is to WWII and Command Modern Naval Air Operations is to modern naval warfare....they set the bar for their respective class and genre. Make no mistake about it, BaB is green and has a lot of growing up to do, but once it get's some battle experience it will not disappoint!

Don't worry - you will hardly notice because you will be so engrossed in the gameplay.

Some graphics look odd for me - like the Leader Names above the units or the "sprites" for the 3D unit graphics. I just use the NATO symbols for units and I don't even worry about reading the Leader names ... if I want to know who someone is I just click on the unit.

The map graphics are VERY good ... and the names of places on the map are very legible. Beautiful maps ... with symbols even for places of historic interest. Love all the wheat fields and stuff ...

Get if for the gameplay - there truly never has been anything like it.

GL!

Johnnie, are you referring to screenshots posted on Matrix's product page? I know I saw a complaint from someone else about their resolution (or the resolution of some of them). If that's the case, I'd recommend instead looking at screenshots posted here in the forum, or seeing part of Erik Rutins's recent Twitch game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJI9L2yh9uE&feature=youtu.be

SSI's old Battle of Antietam for the C64 was groundbreaking in its day, as is this game in 2015. There really is nothing I can compare it to. HPS ACW games are respected classics, but the pace is slow and the micromanagement high. Not that this game is short on counters. But it moves along briskly with WitE-like data and stats if you want them. Scourge of War is also excellent, but it's a nice companion game, not a competitor to this one.

Admittedly, it will take me awhile to wrap my head around the command hierarchy for the larger scenarios. I have modded in some "independent" units, that while ahistorical, allow some experimentation while learning the system. It appears these lone wolves can be given just the orders you want at the critical time without affecting an entire brigade, etc. The last several hours have been full of pleasant surprises, and I love the fact you can continue the battle if you like. Really a lot more to discover, and thank you for putting much of the data in our hands.

Having a pretty good feel for Matrix's customer base, I can't imagine many wargamers - ACW or not - being disappointed with their purchase, even though some polishing is always needed. Your success will directly impact our future enjoyment, so I hope the game can saturate the Matrix market, as Steam isn't in the plan right now. Anyway, it's one of those products that can keep you up all night, and I like the buzz!
