Can someone give me any advice on climbing the learning curve? Is there a walk through of some type to help? This is my first wargame.

best advice is to watch the videos and then play out Husky a few times. At the start leave the air war fully automated but keep a close eye on what happens.

Then move onto setting the air priorities for the AI, but let it manage the mission setting etc. Then set your own missions and so on. This will ease you into the air war side of the game so you can concentrate on the ground war.

A good follow up scenario is 'breakout and pursuit', its a good challenge and you don't need to worry about the naval side to the game.

Read the AARs, they'll start to give you a feel for what others manage to do and thus some hints as to what you should be trying to achieve.

have fun

You're not going to learn this game overnight. I wouldn't be in a rush.

I would recommend you just start by picking a scenario. Play the allies. Turn FOW (Fog of War) off. This will allow you to see all the enemy units on the map, and give you much better feedback on what you are doing.

The air war and the ground war are split into two separate phases. It is almost like playing two separate games simultaneously.

The air war by far is the most complicated part to learn. But you can let the computer run that part for you, although it will be better if you figured it out yourself.

Just let the computer do the air turn...even let it do the same missions over and over..and just move land pieces around. Figure out how to launch an invasion. How to do combat. Try and understand why you won or lost a battle.

Then play the scenario..like Husky, and just do the air. Ignore the land. Wipe out all the air missions assigned, and try assigning your own. Don't bother moving the land pieces..just try bombing ports, cities, airfields....units. Try laying out interdiction, and seeing what values you get on the map..that sort of thing.

Veary "heavy" choice for first wargame. Anyway, have you read Player's Handbook?

i agree with the ppl who recommend playing the Husky scenario a few times to start. and the tutorial videos are very useful as well.

as loki says - use the AI to set the air directives - do that to start out. when you want to start doing the air war yourself, I would recommend to continue to use the AI to set the air directives, and then edit the directives yourself to fit exactly how you want. that way you don't have to be overwhelmed creating them from scratch
