Status: offline 		Interesting discussion on the 'Fall Gelb' ploy. I guess the AAR between Mayhemizer and myself is an example of it (or a variant) being played out on an unsuspecting rookie. I don't think it's gone entirely to plan but the Axis are pretty much in the same position they would be in M/A 40 with a more standard opening.

Status: offline 		AllenK: Actually, on your AAR...there were a couple of missed impulses by the Axis, and the commitment of German units to Poland was more than I would have liked to put there, and I would have made sure the resources in the south were my primary objective. As Germany I personally would not bother with the CW units in Amsterdam. But I think your opponent is doing a pretty good job over-all. The goal of a successful "Fall Gelb" should be to take out France by the end of M/J'40, while also trying to save your O-chits as much as possible. He also has not used an O-chit so far, which I think Germany would have had to do to be in this position by now.

Status: offline 		I agree with the things Jagdtiger has written, that the chance of fair weather impulses in the first turn should not be wasted.

I consider the opening turn to be of the utmost importance. Poland isn't important at all. Sure, it's messy if it survives the first turn, however if Germany gets hold of the Polish resources in the first impulse, they can deal with the Poles in winter too if Lodz and Warsaw survives.

The situation in the west is far more important. Denmark needs to be invaded. That's a must.

According to the annual ADG made, they advise to use the offensive chit on the Belgians in the first turn of the game. The German blitz across the low countries almost directly on the doorstep of the French border if they do so. And that can be done in rain too...

If you take this setup out of the annual, you can do an awful lot of damage to the French during winter too, since you've passed the Dyle river. Quite damaging to the French. But still: if the dice are against you, everything stops...

Yes, so the different balance of forces are a variant of the version you would implement. The missed impulses are either Mayhemizer altering the timetable (back to a variant) or it not going to plan.

By "not going to plan", I suspect, but cannot be certain without confirmation from Mayhemizer, he was anticipating having Poland and Holland secure by now. That isn't to suggest he isn't doing pretty well. If the weather goes okay for the rest of M/A 40 he could be well on track for the French defeat in M/J 40. Simply, had he done a standard opening, the position would be pretty much similar, although maybe with Poland secured.

Status: offline 		And you know what Peter? I think that's where I got my inspiration. I probably read that after my scary game that played out back in 2002 or so.

And also to add to what AllenK wrote: Assuming a player decided on an all out Fall Weiss (Poland), and assuming a long enough N/D and J/F to rail and rebase everything worthwhile west, and assuming fair or rain in M/A the first two impulses for Germany, and assuming decent attack die rolls, and the use of an o-chit...yes, the Axis would be in the position they are if this was the 2nd Axis impulse in your AAR (I think its currently the first impulse). And as I recall there were a couple of missed opportunities (impulses)...one was a fair weather impulse when the Polish INF ventured into Germany, which I would not have eliminated...only moved a blocker over to it.

No Port Strikes. No naval air.

CW, and France, send several battleships to the North Sea. They also send a joint cruiser force to the Western Mediterranean. The Allied submarines patrol the Italian Coast. The Allies send out plenty of convoy escorts.

France initiate combat in the Italian Coast. Will Axis send out any aircraft?

Status: offline 		With such a strong Axis force in the '0' box I doubt whether to commit my submarines or not. The loaded transports are a very tempting target but even if I reach them my submarine force will be seriously reduced.




Edit: The temptation from the dark side was to strong so I committed my submarines but with search roll 6 and 4 for Axis there was no combat.

Status: offline 		CW use their three surprise points to target Scharnhorst but the ship survives the massive bombardment from the Allied battleships.

What is more surprising is that the cruiser Emden survive her punishment as well.

Four German ships damaged in this epic battle for control of the High Seas.

One French and one British battleship was damaged.

USSR rebase three bombers to the Leningrad region.

The new weather roll is a eight modified to a ten so the summer has arrived.

The Germans and Japanese try a Land and the Italians a Naval.

The Italians land some units in Cyrenaica, and the fleet in the Italian Coast heads for La Spezia.

The Italian submarine force head for the Western Mediterranean.

The Germans try some ground striking of hexes in Belgium. Orm I would ask you to open up your last save game and go through this as there are too many aircraft - and thus options available - for me to list.

The hexes targeted are as follows:

Brussels: 2-quality Hs123 and 5-quality Stuka
Antwerp: 5-quality Stuka
Hex west of Brussels: 6-quality Stuka

No escorts at this stage.

Status: offline 		1) The Belgian fighter fly to Antwerp. If it survive it lands East of London.
2) The Spitfire I (West of Brussels) intercept the attack on the same hex. If it survives it lands East of London unless the Belgians landed there. If so it lands in Dover.
