Another good multiplayer battle was conducted by the members of ausSOW Myself and Grognard Pierre headed up the French while Remus and the Major played the Coalition. We played a hunt them down corps battle on the east-west map for two hours. Contact with enemy cavalry screens was established around 30 minutes into the game with several skirmishes. the French approached on a broad front but when we detected the un-anchored right flank of the Coalition in line on a long hill, we decided to concentrate on rolling that up with my forces and Pierre's troops were to anchor our right flank near a forest. The Coalition cavalry had made themselves scarce and as I had two brigades of lancers, chasseur a cheval and hussars, used these in conjunction with the French infantry columns to force the Coalition troops into squares. The Coalition troops then abandoned the hill and retreated to a well situated hill running paralel to the first, divided by a stream in the valley - an excellent defensive position. the French columns and cavalry continued pushing down into the valley and up the other side into contact with the Coalition line and a dynamic, swirling close combat battle ensued, with squares, firefights,m charges and melees ensued. Pierre joined the battle in the centre with part of his command, taking on the Black Watch and Prussians. It was going well for the French initially but the troops were becoming exhausted and it appeared the Coalition had plenty of reserves. This was telling, as towards the end an all out offensive was launched on the wavering French lines who started retreating down the hill. In the end it was a major victory to the Coalition - well done chaps! there were 'learning' mistakes made as we all get used to the new game but a great deal of fun was had and we all agreed the game was playing well and would only get better with time. We all agreed that the important thing initially is to get some balanced mixed force oobs as the ones shipping with the game are taking some getting used to. In this game we discovered at the end, the Coalition had about 20% more troops than the French. cheers
