How is the bombing of Honshu going?

Honshu - no further progress. Lots of rain ever since the last strike, plus the B-29 take forever to recover. Having as many as possible on each raid to saturate the defenses (to the degree possible) is important, especially in light of the loss rate. I'm thinking about starting to target individual factories, but I haven't evaluated possible targets yet. Your thoughts?

Overall, I've got to pull a bunch of carriers out for upgrades that I put off so as to have maximum force available for these battles. Plus, of course, a bunch of battle damaged cruisers, battleships, and destroyers along with some others heading to Pearl. The bases astride the South China Sea are not yet up to a blockade on their own, but as long as I don't send anything near Singapore I can pull out a bunch of ships to get them ready for Okinawa. No date because I have no idea how long it will take to fix and upgrade various ships.

On land, well, maybe another post with a picture...

Status: offline 		Kuching, Brunei, Ternate, Pagan are all getting closer. We also have troops marching from Balikpapan to the Java Sea to seize a base there.

Current maneuvers on land on the continent. Obviously some specifics will be different or change with circumstances.

Quiet in China.

The troops at Rahaeng need more time to recover, but the three armoured units (equipped with light tanks) will attack tomorrow to keep up the pressure. Some additional air groups will strike but many will continue to harry the troops heading for the Chiang Mai rail head. Another division will arrive in two days and could attack on the third, but if the units already in place are ready before then they will attack. Another Bde should arrive in three days (able to attack on the fourth). A Corps HQ with a range of 1 hex should arrive adjacent to Rahaeng tomorrow and aid the attack.

The 14th LRP Bde, with inadequate preparation, will drop on Uttaradit tomorrow. Uttaradit might be empty, which means it might be empty when they arrive... The B-24 horde and fighter sweeps will support their drop and assault.

Moulmein and Tavoy are heavily over stacked with troops rushing forward and most units from Rangoon have not left that city yet!

Light Industry at Soerabaja continues to be stubbornly resilient so will still be targeted. The Repair Shipyard is down to 2, so those groups will move on to LI at Djokjakarta. LI at Semarang is still on the target list too. Forgot to mention the invasion of Dili is now loaded and will arrive there tomorrow, landing the day after.

Here is a bird's eye view of the effort to trap Imperial forces in northern Thailand.

Our subs lost one of their number.

Quiet in China.

Thailand has turned red hot. The para drop on Uttaradit found that Imperial units in transit left it temporarily barren of defenses! The armour only attack on Rahaeng did surprisingly well. As the other units are ready, all will attack tomorrow even though one armoured unit really should rest. Units at Pisanuloke were hit by the B-24 groups in lieu of any at Uttaradit, and with them now seen rushing north to assault our break in their rail line the B-24 horde will do the same tomorrow. Clear terrain made for good bombing results. There are now 5 Imperial units east of Tavoy on the road from Moulmein to Bangkok, with about 20,000 troops. Our armor will make its first attack tomorrow to see what is there. It will be two or three more days until our two divisions arrive from Tavoy so this might be tough on the armor.

The 14th LRP is in good shape with more than 6,000 tons of captured supplies. About 2/3 of the present unit strength was transported the first day and mostly support elements remain to be airlifted. In jungle terrain with massive air support they should put up an iron defense. I suspect they won't have to for very long, though. With the Empire sending units from Pisanuloke to counter-attack at Uttaradit those units cannot bolster the defenses at Rahaeng. We should have relief for the paras soon. But before other ground combat forces arrive, we are flying in an air HQ and have transferred in two (16-plane) fighter squadrons, Thunderbolt I and Spitfire VIII that will CAP at 0 range.

The additional division and para Rgt should arrive from the SE in two days (they made 24 of 46 miles in move mode the first day and are now in combat mode), so they might provide the '2' in a '1, 2 punch'. Oh, he did, it was simply an oversight. He's had to shuffle units around to cover the Allied advances in multiple places, all while extricating the guys approaching Chiang Mai. Movement takes multiple turns so the choreography is complex and sometimes dicey because of the variations (the die rolls). If Allied troops had blasted through Rahaeng on the river crossing that would have been a similar disaster, so he had to rush everything there. This could very easily have been just another ill-fated Allied para drop on a just-arriving armoured unit! I saw Uttaradit empty for two turns by recon with good DL numbers, so I decided to take a chance. This time it worked!

With the way recon functions it's always hard to tell if a base is truly empty when it has had troops all along. A couple of turns back it looked like Chiang Mai itself was empty for a couple of turns, and I'm still not sure if it was or not.

It's just possible that Rahaeng might fall this coming turn anyway. If it had fallen on the river crossing, the defending units would be pretty worthless without rest after retreating again and I'm not even sure which way they would have retreated. I might have been able to grab Uttaradit quicker than the Chiang Mai units could rail in there. But now we don't have to win that race!

Status: offline 		I have a lot of ideas on strategic bombing, but sadly can't share any with you as I have swapped some emails with Andav.

Ok, twist my arm, here is my general Allied strategy: Fly unescorted, at maximum range (so you get surprise), at maximum altitude (avoid flak), every day at 100 percent (no rest for the wicked), at his most heavily defended airbases, and target his resources only.

There, I hope that helps you fine tune your strategy!

Goodness, you don't need any help! Send those guys to Europe.

The three (light) armoured units at Rahaeng will cross the river to Pisanuloke along with one of the infantry divisions to attack the enemy units there, which are now seen withdrawing southward. The other (currently stronger) division will rush through Uttaradit toward Chiang Mai to establish a blocking position as close to that city as possible. The LRP Bde at Uttaradit will do the same, and be replaced by the BFF Bde from Rahaeng in defending Uttaradit. The armour near Tavoy was highly successful, inflicting casualties all out of proportion. They will rest tomorrow, and should be joined by the two infantry divisions in attacking the following day.

Status: offline 		Nice land progress there. Would be nice to overtake the troops retiring from Rahaeng towards Bangkok. How long before your troops cross those hexes west of Bangkok and block the railway to-from Singapore?

Also, those TFs does seem there to hunt Washington. But well, maybe she will escape. Pity your planes did not fly. How is the weather forecast for tomorrow?

I suspect the troops there were packing to strat move out when the rail line got cut, but they may still expect to retake Uttradit so they remain in strat mode. It will take a few days before movement shows.

Status: offline 		The hex east of Tavoy will see the Allied armour resting tomorrow. The two infantry divisions (one the 4th USMC) need 3 more miles, and so 'should' arrive tomorrow. All attack the day after. There are also infantry Bns moving from Tavoy and from the hex SW of Tavoy to block the Singapore route. They are the backup/too-many-advances-to-block-them-all plan. The hex E of Tavoy will be over stacked by the Allies, but they should break through. That armour only result caused a lot of casualties, so the addition of all the heavy weapons, combat engineers, and infantry squads in the infantry divisions should overwhelm the defense. There is always the chance of reinforcement...

I think that might be the deal at Chiang Mai (what BBFanboy said). Whatever the case, I am rushing guys up there to block the RR trail as far as they can. There will shortly be other Allied forces pushing down the road from Taung Gyi, including enough units to block the jungle.

The armour from Rahaeng will take a minimum of two days to cross to Pisanuloke. I think I'll leave them in move mode to avoid taking an extra turn or two. Considering the beat up state of the defenders, they should be fine. Lots of backup coming behind them too. The open terrain makes the retreating units prime air strike targets, so this should be a breakout into the northern Bangkok area.

Still don't know what strength is at Phnom Penh or Ubon, or the other bases east and southeast of Bangkok.

Quiet in China.

The two infantry divisions have met up with the armour on the road near Bangkok. The hex is less over stacked than I thought (was thinking of a different hex), only ~5%. It looks like the armour at Rahaeng will need two more days to cross into Pisanuloke, but the 2nd day will be in combat mode. Imperial units are already on the move SE from Chiang Mai, so we will only be able to get troops two hexes from there, one hex out of Uttaradit. We have two small units in position just NW of Chiang Mai.

The attack at Saigon went well, and the additional division and para Rgt arrived a day earlier than expected, plus without shock attacking over the river. The troops are in very good shape and will continue the assault tomorrow with the new formations adding their weight. The advance along the coast road smashed through the ex-defenders of Quinhon and are on the move again. There is now a second unit seen at Tourane, so the delaying efforts are paying off.

Recon has identified one unit at Ubon, probably armour, and it is moving NW in the face of our armored units. A minor change in plans as both the tank Bn and TD Bn will move across the river directly into Ubon instead of the TDs blocking the rail line first. Some air support has been ordered. It's possible that the Empire will do likewise and slow down the armor's run, and also likely that the Imperial tanks will exit the city before it is invested. The enemy SE of Pakse has not been identified, but aerial recon has not been tasked on them.
