I also tried every possible combination with "-cpu#" etc. I tried windowed mode and that made it run normal, but regardless of what resolution you use, windowed mode really sucks. Desperate, I tried some of the other commands on the list and found an unlikely solution: -dd_sw -deepColor -px1600 -py800

The resolution change isn't what did it, but as soon as I added "-deepColor" the game went to normal speeds. I didn't think it would have such an impact, but for some reason simply setting the game to 32 colors made it run faster, even though my PC specs FAR exceed the system requirements. It seems like WITP just isn't windows 8 friendly. There are still points where it chugs, but 90% of the time it runs like normal.

Did you try -SingleCpuOrders when you had it in windowed mode?

Do or do not. There is no try.

I would like to make you I know what ya'll are talking about. Seems like a lot of the problems being discussed are display delays. What is slow for me is when I click for "next fleet" or "next port" I have to wait a painful 5 to 10 seconds for the computer to catch up. Sometimes I hit the next button again thinking I missed it the first time, then there is even more delay.

Here are two of the switches I use on Windows 8/8.1; these might make a difference during the orders phase.

-deepColor -SingleCpuOrders

It's a multiple processor core problem with DirectX. There are many command line switches that help this because each computer is a bit different. The switches are not supported by the version of the game that comes with the basic install. You need to upgrade to the first patch at minimum. I recommend upgrading to the most recent patch, if you haven't upgraded yet.

All my issues with Windows 8.1 were fixed by the -deepColor switch. It must be entered exactly as shown with the small "d" and capital "C". That fixed my speed issue as well as several graphic glitches that occurred plus horrible key lag. I didn't see anyone saying to try this and it was the only thing that worked for me

This stuff has been covered extensively with some pictures in the Windows 10 thread of this forum. Please read through it while looking at your own system and it will soon start to make sense.

PS - If your shortcut points to "Autorun", that is the overall Menu for the Game, the Editor, Check for Updates, etc. You need to find the game executable file
War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe on your system, select the .exe with a left click and drag it to the desktop to create a shortcut that points directly to the game file. Then Right Click on the shortcut to get the "properties" window and start reading the Win 10 thread about switches and what they fix/do.

You could try to create the shortcut in the game folder and copy it to desktop after adding to the command line. Or edit the shortcut on another computer and re-import it.

Lots and lots of people with Windows 8 and 10 are playing it. Did you drag the quick start or the other game link to the desktop? You should be using the quick start for all switches. The other game shortcut basically just loads some stuff you would only want to see once before taking you to the game. The quick start takes you directly there. Additionally have you installed updates? The command line switches do not work on the executable installed from the disk or downloaded installer, you need at least patch 1 for the switches, and you might as well go with the latest patch as it fixes hundreds of bugs and adds some features. Lastly when adding command line switches, put them outside the quotes on the command line in the shortcut.

You got to create a shortcut on the desktop, not the .exe file being copied on the desktop. After the installation and patches that should have been done automatically. If no shortcut on your desktop, create one; then you can add the command lines.

The only thing you might need to adjust is the screen resolution... I got an old system with a screen that allows 1440x900 max; but larger resolutions turn the fonts a tad too tiny for me :) I also would use (depending on your graphics card, etc) the -dd_sw switch. Just do some tests, you can't mess things up, Baz.

-fd -skipVideo -deepColor -dd_sw -px1440 -py900 -SingleCpuOrders
