Hi there, I have owned this game since it came out but have never had much chance to get into it and haven't played it much in the last 12 months until the last two days.

I must say the increase in detail is significant in a lot of the screens from what I remember when I first played it and the information in the database and the better links to access it are very good additions so well done to the developers. I love the overview and images that are available rather than just tables of data, gives you a better feel for the platform.

I have just been learning to use some of the new stuff and just had a situation I don't understand involving "OODA loop limitation". I understand the concept of this but don't see how it applied to my situation. I had some surface targets on an AEW surface radar for over an hour. I launched a dozen Intruders and had them loiter on the edge of their harpoon range while a launched a tommahawk strike from my surface group. Once I estimated the Tommahawks were about equidistant to the target as my Intruders I headed them inbound and went to fire their Harpoons manually. I allocated the first aircraft fine but then all the other 11 aircraft in the group reported "OODA loop limitation 18 seconds". Ok, I waited about 20 seconds and tried again. This time the first aircraft that was previously ok reported "OODA loop limitation" the second aircraft was ok to allocate weapons and the other 10 aircraft were also "OODA loop limitation". The targets were all still held solidly on radar the entire time.

Just wondering if this feature is buggy or I am doing something wrong? It is a bit difficult to co-ordinate an attack if aircraft in a group are randomly unaware of what is going on and you cannot allocate weapons for them all at once. I kept them heading in and tried and automatic attack and nothing happened initally but then about 30 seconds later an auto attack did happen. The problem is that it exposed the aircraft longer than they should have been and I couldn't co-ordinate the arrival of the harpoons with the Tommahawks because it took about 2 minutes longer to launch than it should have.

On a separate topic can I suggest that as a feature (that could be turned on or off) explanation pop ups could better describe some fields in dialogue boxes. For example in the Mission Editor understandably some of the labels are brief to fit everything on the screen, if you hovered over the label it could pop up a more meaningful description of the field and how it is used.

Cheers

Thanks for your feedback Spooky

Air contacts are automatically added to a unit's target list when getting within 150% of max weapon range. If you turn on targering vectors you will see who keeps track of whom and the OODA 'time remaining' figure.

Ships, subs and facilities are NOT automatically added as engaging these pretty much depends on the mission type, and are most of the time not terribly threatening. If you want to add targets to the target list manually, use the F1 'auto-attack' button, and set set WCS to HOLD and Ignore Plotted Course When Attacking to NO.

Did this help?

Oh btw have you seen this, Mission Planner 2.0:

http://www.warfaresims.com/?p=3653

This also works for airborne a/c. Create a strike mission, right-click single units or groups and assign to mission. The a/c will plot a strike plan, adjust altitudes, add targets to internal target list, etc. Neat, yes?

Thanks for the speedy reply. I will try next time creating a mission then rather than launching them and controlling them manually.

Oh and make sure to grab the very latest 1.08 release candidate. It fixes some strike planner bugs from the 1.07 version
