While it does technically cover similar activity (i.e. tactical-level ground combat), that's about where the similarity ends. HoS is much more like Avalon Hill's Squad Leader game. Battles will tend to be a bit smaller in scale with HoS than most SPWaW games and there is a more intense focus in HoS on the effects of a single leader, tank, hero, or smoke grenade, etc. Both are good games, but the look and feel is just entirely different. Where SP makes me feel like I'm watching a battalion or regiment-level battle from a helicopter, I'd say HoS makes me feel more like I'm watching a company-level battle from the third floor of a nearby building. :-)
