Hi there,

Is it possible to hide the signatures that some people are putting under their posts? There is one user in the one of the forums I frequent, for example, that has a signature that is a picture that takes up nearly an entire screen. Whereas others just have ones taking up half or quarter of the screen.

I have attached a screenshot below showing how bad it is, with all personal details to identify the user and post removed. The green box is the signature, and the yellow one is the text of their post. It is driving me nuts, haha.

It would really be useful to be able to hide it, but I haven't found an option to do it.

Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, only the signature's "owner" can hide it.

Any chance of striking up a conversation by making a nice comment about his avatar in a post, Then lead it into why he chose it and then tell him "how its distracting could you make a little smaller. ALL that could happen is he tell you where to go

I'm afraid that I also would like some capability to suppress display for "sigs". While I enjoy them (for the first few times I see them), my internet connection is often "hard throttled" due to a data cap and I often have to wait for minutes to view a thread as the graphics load.

I am also often compromised when someone loads a huge picture :(

And then when people quote it, the image has to load again and again :( It would be nice if people would delete the picture links when quoting someone.

It must be really nice to have fast internet My connection options are limited out here in the desert and my satellite connection when hard throttled runs slower than an old 52K dial up modem. Even when unthrottled, getting 700 Kbs downloads is a rare phenomenon.

End Rant

I've just noticed there's a "Don't Show Image in posts" setting in your profile settings, though I don't know if it works for signatures. Why not try it out?

That does work, but then AAR's and such are difficult to view.

Oh well, nothing can be done. I know other forums have an option to disable them, I just thought that I may have overlooked where the option is but it doesn't look like it is possible to suppress them. I can live with it.

Thanks for your help anyway.

+1

I also find them distracting. Not only pictures but text also. Sometimes comment is much shorter than signature and I find it distracting.

There is a small green circle in the lower left below a person's post that allows you to block his/her posts.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't want to block their messages, just the signature.

It's all good, I'll put up with the ridiculously large signatures.

I'll make a note on the server team task list to add either this option, or one to automatically limit their size. No promises on a timeline as they are snowed under!

Cheers

As stated above, the green dot will take care of it... I finally had to block all of one person's posts for the same reason.

Question for Matrix: Are these the final sizes allowed?

If so I guess there is no real point in having them as they can be barely seen let alone read.

What gives? I use the sigs and all the great artwork in them to help me identify who is posting even before I read who is posting with my old eyes. Is Matrix discriminating against us old guys?

Would really like the sigs back, please, they way they were.

Thank you.

Not at all happy with this arbitrary limit on size, suddenly mine is unreadable and has some significant information on it.

I really thought it was common in forum software to have a "hide signatures" settings option. I would certainly use it, and those who value the large sig banners could keep on with it.

Unfortunately, yes, you are quite right. Why is this a solution? I really hate to be an arse about this, but being a forum member for 9 years and also contributing in a small way to the (former) company Matrix and one of its games, I don't understand how this resolves the issue.

JiminyJickers was asking if there was a way to hide the signature pics - not resize them, not eliminate them, or distort them.

Respectfully, unless this company can find a way for a user to hide them, why modify them at all? I see that a re-size was done, but how is this a solution? I still cannot fully read mine much less anyone else's text contained within the sigs. How is that somehow "fair" to the rest of us when, obviously the company does not have a solution to JiminyJickers request. To penalize the rest of us with an action that accomplishes neither is truly mind-boggling!

What has been done is neither a solution to JiminyJickers' inquiry nor for the forum members who have searched out artist (or took it upon themselves) to create a piece of artwork to attach to their account that shows support and loyalty to a game that they truly love and have sacrificed a lot of time playing. Time that they have otherwise could have spent somewhere else. Those sigs are truly sort of a 'badge of honor' to a lot of us and a show of loyalty to this company and the game/s that they love.

During the years that I have been a member of this forum, I have never seen such a derisive action taken like this against a majority of the members who follow the rules (for the most part) and continue to support this company and its products.

I have just one question though, and then I am done - How is my avatar not more offensive to someone or the company than the SIZE of my supportive and loyal signature pic?

Therefore, until a solution can be developed that specifically satisfies JiminyJickers inquiry, I respectfully ask that the signature pics be restored to their original width and height sizes.

Thank you.

Me three. +1. Signature banners have been a time honored tradition, especially in the WitP forums, and I do get a kick out of seeing what our creative users are coming up with. Especially when they are ROUGE-USMC designs.

We will get to a solution which makes as many people happy as possible, have no fear. I think the original issue is fair - some sigs were half a screen high and made otherwise short discussions pages and pages long. We will keep working on it.

Cheers

Pip
