All,
Not a single hot key works for me. The camera control keys do work. Has anyone had this and solved it? If so, what can I do?

Thanks in advance,
Hollywood

Thanks for the response.

I think I have some sort of directory foulup. To answer your question, YES - it is there in the documents directory. Also present in the Saved Game folder are all Replays I've been saving. BUT I am unable to run any of the replays, because the list of saved/replays games is not found and the list is blank.

Is there another Documents directory where the game could be looking to read files? It is clearly writing files per the above fact it is saving games.

It seems like the Writes go to one directory and the Reads are not being found. I can't find anywhere to check/adjust this.

Thanks for any help you might have.

Do you have windows 7 or 8.1? If you change the resolution, the game holds this setting after a restart? Because the .ini file is here, if it holds the setting it should be able to read it. I suggest to try to reinstall the game, being sure to execute the setup in admin mode and apply the patch immediatly after.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Running 8.1. I haven't changed the resolution at all - stayed with the default.

I can try a re-install, but I purchased and downloaded the game on 8/1. Don't I have the latest version? Shouldn't I already have the patch included in the version I purchased?

Try to change it and see if it remains with the new one after the game restart

>Shouldn't I already have the patch included in the version I purchased?

Make a automatic update to be sure and be sure to have set the compatibility mode with Win7 (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3876271) on the game exe; in any case I don't think the problem is the patch yes or no, but probably something wrong in the installation process, that is why I asked to make one new being sure of admin.

I uninstalled and re-installed. Nothing.

As it is - the following files are being updated (read/write) in the Documents\SowWL:
- sowwl.ini
- SowWL.log
- MYGUI.log
- defaults.dat
- HighScore.dat
- CustHighScore.dat

I've modified keyboard.csv to no effect. Only the camera keys work - no other hotkeys.

I renamed the keyboard.csv file to see if I would get an error and/or it would use the defaultkey.csv file in main directory but that didn't work either.

Additionally, it is writing to the Saved\Replays folder and also storing autosave files, but it does not read/list any of those games for replay or continued play in the game.

I have SoW Gettysburg and experienced none of these problems.

I'm really stumped.

keyboard.csv should be in the Documents/Sowwl folder. Copy and paste it in there.

sorry - just read your earlier posts and it seems you had it there and no luck either.

There has to be some kind of hardcoded pathing bug related to reading these files. If it was an authorization thing, the program wouldn't be able to both read and write the high scores, etc. It can write the replays, but then it's not reading the replays back in.

I believe the same pathing problem exists for the keyboard.csv file - it's never reading the file, so it never gets the hotkeys.

Then the game can read from the directory because the setting is stored here; the N or M keys work?

All the camera controls work:
Q/E, WASD, CTRL, LSHIFT and SPACE

X is not a camera control in my configuration (Default).

Thanks for the continued help.

I had to rename the upload to .txt as .csv files are not supported for attachment (see attached) as keyboard.txt.

When I look at it loads in Excel - here's how it looks in Excel:

Key Keyboard character or special character string

Thanks, but no it didn't work.

I believe this is less a keyboard.csv issue than it is a pathing issue because it's not reading anything from the SowWL folder to include Saved Games, Replays as well as the keyboard.csv.

I can see the in-game saves and replays that I've saved, but they are not read and listed in-game when I would like to replay/review them.

So again - the game knows where to write the files, but doesn't go back to the same location when it comes time to read them.

I am working on it - I read the manual and there is one hardcoded reference in regard to keyboard.csv (page 74). I checked the path and no such folder existed, so I went ahead and copied the documents\SowWL that was being written to into this hardcoded location, but still nothing on the reading front.

Sorry this is such a pain, but the game is VERY hard to play without the hotkeys and obviously like everyone else I want to be able to use saved games and replays.

Thanks again for assistance.

DO you mean C:\Users\username\
Documents\SOWWL\ ? Isn't the directory where you see your saves? It should be present in all the Windows OS. The strange is that if you have active the keyboards Q/E, WASD, CTRL, LSHIFT and SPACE there's not reason the others are not seen. Did you try to change the default key for one of these and see if the change is seen from the game?

Yes - I did try changing the default keyboard file, but it did not change anything in-game. I'm thinking the camera keys are hardcoded, but can be updated via a keyboard.csv.

Yes - that is the directory I mean, but the game did NOT install to that directory. I copied all the files over from another Documents\SowWL folder where the game did install to. I don't know how or why it would install elsewhere, but it did and it seems to be writing to the same directory, but just not reading, so I'm thinking one path (the read path) is hardcoded and the write path is determined by the install.

In my PC (Win7) the documents path is unique also if I can reach it also from the My Documents libraries or from users\[username]; try to check this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/26559/change-the-default-save-folder-for-windows-7-libraries-to-something-else-like-your-dropbox/ perhaps you have two differents paths sets

I'm on Windows 8. I did some googling, but couldn't find how to change the pathing, but also, do I really want to do that?

I can reach the sowWL folder from both the Documents folder and via the users\username method.

Sorry I think i'm lost now: what is then the path without the folder ("I checked the path and no such folder existed")?

I created the a) users/username/Documents/sowWL folder manually by copying all the data from the game created folder in b) This PC > Documents/sowWL.

It only writes replays and saves along with high scores to b), but only reads from high scores from b). It doesn't read or write from/to a) at all.

This is what I meant; I think your Documents under Libraries is connected to another path (if you make right button->property under the Documents directory in Libraries, you should see the real path connected) that is why no users/username/Documents/sowWL has been created; try to include this last in the library->documents (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/10283/understanding-the-libraries-feature-in-windows-7/)

It should be similar I think; you should find in internet instructions for 8.1 too
