Well, picture quality is low, so some explanation in words:
upper left corner, fuel: 182/9999 (0)

Cheers,

Z.

Suppose it is because you have coastal routing, and AI likes to track most peculiar paths at time.
I always use direct routing with waypoints for the majority of my TFs because of this

The TF destination is hex 203,94. This is near the Western coast of the United States somewhere (Eastern edge of the map). Your picture suggests the TF is in the vicinity of Diego Garcia, on the far Western edge of the map. Your home base is set for Chichi Jima (near Honshu, Japan) and you've routed via 'coastal' settings.

Your TF will track to the West coast of the United States from Diego Garcia whilest bumping along the coastal boundaries all the way over and all the way back, if it can make that trip at all (not much 'coastal' connection in the depths of the Pacific, which may have made the track catywampus).

The current hex selected is 203,94. Coastal routing from the West Coast of the Us is going to take you home via the Aleutians. Try direct routing.

Thank you Gentlemen for your help. The background of Diego Garcia was some kind of fog of war, I'm playing per pbem - but of course it was a little bit clumsy ...

I had to wait for the next turn after changing to direct routing - and now I'm able to see, that nothing has changed

Anyway, the TF is executing it's orders as expected, until now no real problems occured.

Does Chi-Chi Jima have any fuel? Maybe the AI does not know how to calculate endurance if there is no fuel to be had at home base. The 165 figure for travel to target hex and return to CCJ seems about right.

It is set at normal danger, the return route to get fuel is routed around perceived danger making for a long trek back.

I suspect if you set it to absolute, direct then it wouldn't look so drastic. You could plot a course to the home port and look at the path set, it might give you some tips about where the local danger may be from the local commanders.

But what explains the "99999" fuel range? This reminds me of the AI Land Combat routine when an attacker goes up against a unit with 0 AV, the AI can't divide by zero so the odds are made 99-to 1, regardless of the actual AV of the attacker. That string of 9s looks like a "divide by zero" result.

Seems like the AI is saying "Honoraburh Admirarh-san, are you out of f****** mind?"

If there is safe way to go West and there is no closer friendly base you will just have to go East despite the warning then turn around and find a route when safe. You can estimate if you can make the Island of the Chi Chis by setting the destination to ChiChi and "direct route". Send some AO's eastward to make a rendezvous somewhere. If you get desperate detach the shorter legged DD's so they don't steal oil from the carriers.

Truk would be a closer option for your refueling efforts. Either that or reset their home base to a home island base with fuel. Tokyo will do nicely.

Thanks again for the answers.

Fuel is no real problem, the death star is well supplied by some milk cows. When I change the homeport, the numbers disappear and the usuals are there. But after a turn 99999 does appear again (with the new home base). Additional I can say, that there are three TF's in the same hex with synchronized orders (no follow order) and the phenomen only occurs by one TF.
So may be it's really a case of calculating by the AI as BBfanboy wrote. Until now all of my orders were executed well.
KB will turn homeward soon after a successful hunt.
