'morning everyone.

A solution is in the works for the corrupted files that have sorta kinda bricked the game. I should hopefully have a fix ready by later today. Maybe.

quote:

ORIGINAL: **budd**

i've been away from SPWAW for awhile what does Mr. find do? ......I can deduce it finds stuff why and for what...couldn't find any docs on it.

It's just a little search app that looks for whatever you want in either the scenarios or maps.
Type in Redleg, all of his scenarios pop up
Type in Stalingrad to find all scenarios set in ....... Stalingrad.
etc etc etc
Same thing with maps.

There's no docs for this, open it up, find the directory of the game, and start typin'.

This is just an easy way to source out anything specific, that's all.

HTH

thanks again for your collective patience, we'll make it right.

cheers

Unfortunately patch seems not to work in my end... I unzpped patch, installed cmt's into scen folder. Then I went to Editor. Chose "load scenario". Crash immediately... Any help?

edit:Now scen loading works!!! I was accidentaly installed fixed cmt's into SPWAW's scen folder. But after some thinking and checking I noticed that enh-scen folder is better place... Thanks about patches anyway!

My friend here wants to tell you something!

V1.1 is now available.

______________________

Revisions to V1.1

#1 - FIXED

In an effort to comprehensively label the Scenarios we ran into the problem of borking the "More" button on a few of the Scenario screens.

#2 - FIXED

Campaign #60: Airborne PBEM needed fixing as some of the AUX troops weren't showing up cuz they weren't tagged as AUX.

#3 - FIXED

We had edited the .cmt files for the scens with the wrong editor which resulted in the game crashing.

#4 - UPGRADED

An updated file to fix the arty screen problem has been included. Computers with up to eight physical cores can now reliably use the game.

You can find this at This Link

cheers

Yes - you are referring to the link on post #62

no need to change any extensions
the .zip file when unzipped will have 3 folders. They will tell you where they need to go.
all the .cmt's go in the Scen folder
4 files for the Campaign folder
overwrite all the files in these 2 folders

and a couple ( the arty stuff) for the root (then ya got to do the needfull in re-directing icons and such, as discussed above - I think?) Lemme know if further directions are needed.

HEY!, how do you like the new sounds???

cheers

I really like some of the new sounds, others not so much
I really like the new grenade sound, and the added effects for the tank Gun firing sounds, Luv the new Soviet SU gun sound
luv the new ricochet, and penetration sounds
however, we used an 'actual' MG34 firing for the MG34 LMG sound, and that was changed to something kinda generic sounding
also dont care for the 30 cal MG sounds, and new 81mm Mortar explosions (not as good sound quality IMO) and the US 105mm Tank gun sounds kinda wimpy lol
oh well, to each his own, I can always swap em back in my install

Yeah, i agree. Some of the sounds ..... well.
Overall I really think there is a definite improvement, to the degree that I took whatever I could get from Hexhammer (the creator of the majority of the new sounds) but there was too much to oversee, just couldn't go through each and every effect.

I also have been mulling the thought of switching out some of the weaker sounds.
Hmmmmmmmm, maybe a thread is needed for replacement sounds. mmmmmmmmm

The ambient "background battle" FX are awesome IMHO.

MajorMess how nice it is too have this all in one download. Thank you so much. You may not realize it but for someone(like myself) who is not good at working through the previous find ,load into folders, etcetera. To have it all so easily at hand now what a blessing my friend.so I downloaded and followed the directives. So now I have2 installed. The older one was under a different file name. I presume I uninstall the older loaded game, right? Since I don't need it any more.

Ya like I said, there is a lot of good new ones in there, everyone has their own taste
Ive already switched the ones I mentioned, MG 34 LMG , 30 Cal, Sherman 105(Which I switched to the bazooka sound now), 81mm, and and a couple other, back to the previous ENH fr files
doesn't mean they are better, just that I like them better for me
Once I get them all figured out I'll upload a file, itll be big tho so....

there is a 'sound map' file that tells you what almost all the sound files are for
it was in Generals edition main folder
That file along with the KED Icon List would have been good items to include

I just tried this .... I played as the Hungarians and the icons for all the tanks - Turan I & II, toldo looked OK. I know that I really had to work on that scen to get it right, and one of those Turans series was a big part of the problem. I know one type of tank didn't show on the version I was working from.
I don't mean to be dumb, but are you sure you tried this on the ENH-FR D/L from the Depot?

If it's still a problem I'll dig deeper into it.

Sami,

I don't know what to say .....

I started that scenario on the ENH-FR build that was cloned for the D/L.

Me - Rumania
Turn #1, before I even move I can spot Turan I's in the distance.

I'm truly at a loss here.

Negative. I just checked it out and icons are just fine. Just to make certain, were you playing game from here?

There is a bug where once you destroy one of those Turan tanks it's graphic disappears. This is an old bug and it is actualy in the game code not in the oob's or scenario. It can also be seen in desert maps when playing against the British (maybe other allies too). Sometimes when you destroy a tank it leaves no wreck graphic on the map.

I have never played steel panthers, I'm confused at all the versions. But want to try it since it is known as one of the best tactical simulators.

Is this SPWaW ENH-FR V1.1 installer a stand alone game? ie will I be able to play SP with just that installer or do I need to download the game first from matrix? can I play campaigns in this version or do I need the megacampaigns? any sort of guide for dummies explaining Steel panthers? like the history behind the games and what is different between versions and why some are free and others are not etc.

Thanks

The SPWAW ENH-FR V1.1 installer gives you a complete game, with Scenarios (single battles) and Campaigns (multiple linked battles) updated to this latest version. This Enhanced "Final Release" is a free mod on top of the last Matrix release. This is all free of charge. The mega campaigns were built on a previous release and will not run properly with this Enhanced release. You don't need to buy the mega campaigns to enjoy the campaigns included in this release.

This Enhanced mod is considered the most complete user effort to update the oob files (units, weapons, formation) for consistency across nations. Many graphics and sounds files have also been updated, as well as encyclopedia files (unit descriptions). Generally speaking, most players of the game are using this Enhanced mod. This V1.1 installer just combined everything into a single install. (Previous to this V1.1, You had to install a Matrix version, update it to Matrix's latest release, then install the Enhanced mod on top. Now this is done in the single install)

I hope this helps explain.

...any sort of guide for dummies explaining Steel panthers? like the history behind the games and what is different between versions and why some are free and others are not etc.

List of original games:
-Steel Panthers 1 was released in 1995 and covered World War 2.
-Steel Panthers 2 was released in 1996 and covered modern battles from 1950 - 1999.
-Steel Panthers 3 was released in 1997 and covered both WW2 and modern battles.

After this the fans got permission to use the game code and develop free games. These free games became known as:
-Steel Panthers World War 2 (a free fan created game based on Steel Panthers 2 code) - Camo Workshop.
-Steel Panthers World at War (a free fan created game based on Steel Panthers 3 code) - Matrix Games.
-Steel Panthers Main Battle tank (a free fan created game also based on Steel Panthers 2 code) - Camo Workshop.

Now after a while both Steel Panthers World War 2 and Steel Panthers World at War games got additional non-free versions:
-Steel Panthers World at War got the Mega Campaigns which you need to buy. They are like normal campaigns but much larger and contain a large strategic map that shows your progress in the campaign.
-Steel Panthers World War 2 also got a non-free version that differs from the free version by adding higher resolutions and all sorts of small improvements and features not available in the free version.
