Its done it three times now on the same turn, crashing each time when End Turn is pressed.

The game is Iron(U) v Doom(C) G3beta Williamsburg 2 player BETA on turn 50: Ironclad to play.

Your save file here is in an .odt file format. It'll look like plain text inside of Open Office (or similar programs), but it's actually not a plain-text file format -- if you force the file to open in Notepad or Notepad++ you can see that it's filled with header information and formatting strings. I'm not sure it would be possible that your game file on the server was converted to ODT format. Is it possible you were looking at the PBEM\ThisTurn.sve file in some Open Office program before it uploaded?

I might add that the text inside the save file looks well-formed (inside Open Office). Let me check and see what the server data for this game is.

Thanks Eric. I used open office to convert the original This turn sve file into something I could get to accept a zip as the original refused to be copied. Must admit I was confused about there only being one This turn file although I was playing two games. Unfortunately I didn't keep a separate copy of that sve version of the Williamsburg turn (only the open office modification) and the sve file in the pbem folder has since changed to match the time of the upload of the other game being played.

Tried it again after couple of weeks break plus a reinstalled game and post the multiplayer server problems just sorted - and it crashed again. This time I got an assertion report at the start, but still got taken into the game but it crashed when running through the combat replay - unlike the previous times when it crashed on end turn after I had played my moves.

Thank you for looking at this again. I tried loading your game file using the serial number and login information you sent me in June, but I got an authentication error. I'll send you an email to see whether my information is correct.

I'm having the same trouble in the starter scenario. The game crashes on pressing the end turn button. Seems to happen a bit randomly.

Same here starter scenario.... has anyone found a fix? I have 8.1. (I tried windows 8 compatibility setting then (XP service pack 3)

Sometimes I can play several turns then CTD... sometimes only 1. I don't think posting the save will help as I can reload it and play it but not sure for how long.

Thanks zak

I always run programs with full Admin permissions. I also tried a short cut directly to the game exe. instead of the matrix launch screen. No help either. (These are big time Crashes that leave behind a memory dump.)

Here is a DxDiag it shows the BaB errors...I also opened a help desk ticket maybe they can sort it out.

I believe I have found an issue with PBEM games, everything ran fine for dozen turns then I read more of the manual and started to split regiments and/or double time units. The game seems to always fail CTD at the END TURN if these both have happened. I will do some more testing on my next turn to see if its related to splitting unit or if its double timing a unit only... Just wanted to share what I just found out, had failure the previous 8 attempts at end turn.

if you find a bug that can be reproduced by a given path or set of options that others can follow, that's great and then the developers can follow it, recreate it and then hopefully fix it

Thank you Thank you Thank you.... splitting unit made it crash on me.
I stopped playing for a long time; the crash seemed so random... 3 turns 7 turns Never could tell.
I started testing again using msconfig turning off non windows possesses and no crashes for 3 days. I played Mill springs again today no crashes...
After reading your report I Split a unit and crashed again after hitting end turn. After Force Marching a unit it didn't crash.
I believe/hope you have isolated the problem.

jack based upon your report on my next turn I did lots of forced marching and did NOT split any units, the turn ended correctly and everything worked correctly.
I believe the problem of crash on end of turn has to do with splitting units, does anyone know how to submit a bug report to the developers about this?
I hope this has helped, for a while there I thought the PBEM was broken all together.

Thanks
-Rick

Update:

This is the report I sent to erik. It can be repeated hopefully this helps.

{{
I think I have found a problem that occurs in both single player and pbem.

Note in my PBEM(it was manassas 2 player only scenario, I don't think scenario matters)

Problem is program crashes at end of turn click I have tried all the command buttons for a unit crashes only seem to happen related to casualties and splitting units it seems to me. Splitting a unit itself does not seem to cause the crash, have had many tests and this seems to prove out each time.

Situation to cause:
Scenario: Mill Springs(Standard Scenario)
Difficulty: Lieutenant Colonel
Combat Options: End of turn activation failure is on

USA is Human

CSA is Computer

Move 1st Kentucky Cavalry to hex 126,123 as is no changes
end turn
Take some kind of damage from fire attacks on 1st Kentucky Cav
1 Damage in this example
Split Unit
Rejoin Unit
end turn
Take more casualties, in this example I took 28 casualties on one turn without routing
Split Unit again
Crashes on End Turn

Able to repeat this each time,
Different amount of casualties on the second turn but same result each time Crashes on End Turn click. Windows 10 with updated drivers on laptop.
}}

Rick thanks for continuing to check this.... I have family visiting for a few weeks and it's cut into my computer time...typing on my kindle now.
I'm using 8.1 with the same issues. I have to check the casualty factor. The last check with a crash did have casualties. I'll try a unit behind the lines and see what happens. This really explains why the crashing seemed so random. I like the game but would have a problem buying the next in the series if it continues to crash.

BTW on my pc the crash leaves behind a good sized memory dump; really just a waste of space.

I managed to run some tests today and it does seem to be casualty related BUT I am unable to recreate from the save immediately prior to splitting the regiment. Reloading and splitting doesn't cause a crash;it seems I have to take casualties again after reloading.

This will be difficult to explain to Eric.

just try your best, he know the system better than anyone else so if he can sort it, or part understand it, he will fix it
