Edited.Scenario intro / description, weather, Israeli playabe only, revised.

This is an scenario dealing with the hypothetic deployment of INS Tanin in the Gulf of Oman.
The game provides a detailed intro / briefing to be played as Israeli.
Scoring points has not been set, but victory conditions are set through the accomplishment of the destruction of an Iranian surface target.
The player is notified through actions triggering messages about the success / failure of his mission.(Please, let me know if these messages show up along the game.)

Please feel free to play it, comment about errors and/or suggest changes.

Thank you

So far so good. I've sunk one Iranian sub (the WRA was set for auto firing and fired a salvo automatically) and the Zafer as well. The doctrine was set for "tight" and I thought that given the briefing, the doctrine would have been set for "hold" which may have added to the auto firing on the Iranian Kilo submarine which never attacked.

I'm currently in transit to the escape zone and have not been able to recharge the batteries which is probably going to hinder my escape. I know that the batteries charging at periscope depth and while surfaced had been an issue in the past but I thought that it had since been fixed.

Excellent scenario. Just my size and speed. Plenty of neutral units and a realistic amount of hostiles.
Nice job on putting into scenario form a modern situation that isn't written about with a lot of fervor.

Steve

I just sat at the computer for about a minute and stared at the battery level gauge and it moves very slowly even at a 15 second time compression so that has been fixed.

Thank you for your comments Steebe.
I´ll change the doctrine, my omission.
Yes, the idea is to sneak in, sink the Zafer and bug out ASAP, firing in self defence only.
You are driving an state of the art AIP sub, you shouldn´t go to periscope.

I´m glad you enjoyed it.

Any idea how the AIP works? Does it kick in when the batteries run dead?

Yes. Once you ran out of battery, sub will switch to AIP. Battery will recharge at periscope depth, AIP will not recharge.

For information, I played it twice, first time got killed by DC fairly quick, second time won, and found nothing amiss with the scenario.

Playing now.

Small nitpicks - All sides are playable.

- The Side Briefing is identical to the Scenario Description. A personal thing but the latter is a great place to set the scene for the scenario and place the Player's orders from the briefing into context. Obviously your call as the author but some political background or story as to why Israel has opted for restricted submarine warfare might add some depth to the scenario.

Otherwise, no issues noted so far and it's an interesting and imaginative premise for a Command scenario.

-C

Add two minor issues:

- No weather? Subs are disadvantaged with a sea state of zero and my understanding that winter storms in the Gulf can be pretty vile at times; and

- Locked reference points E1-E4 are for what?

Grazie Randomizer.
Not nitpick at all, I´ll take your comments into account.
CMANO scenario making has become a recreational activity that I'm having trouble to find time to dedicate lately.

Thanks

1. All sides available. Checked
2. Scenario Description. Checked (not an easy part, English is not my native language, but keeps my practice. Sorry about mistakes.)
3.Weather. Checked. In fact no Iranian surface unit has a sonar. I´ve kept the skies clear to give the Iranian air ASW assets a chance.
4. E-1/E-4 ref points: Those mark your exit area. Needed to comply with your mission. (Check for messages.)

I´m uploading it now.

Saludos

Was unable to achieve an interception and the target reached its objective triggering the end of the scenario with 1-Day 6-hours remaining to run. This seems rather a lot, given the transit distance to the search box. Tanin reached the search box in about 9-hours but it would seem that the target ship had already exited the patrol box and was on the way to Jask by then.

Looks like the tactical solution is to do a moderate speed run into the search box depleting both the batteries and AIP fuel in the process. A successful intercept then ends the scenario with your boat deep in hostile waters and reaching the exit box impossible without snorkeling for a battery charge, something that does not seem quite right.

Interesting situation, thanks.

Just finished the scenario and I liked it, the tip that the target would stay within 12 miles of the Iranian coast worked perfect as the sonar on your sub can easily detect targets within 6 miles so you can stay stationary six miles from Iranian coastline within the search box and the target will simply come to you...

The scenario might be more challenging if the Iranian P3 would drop sonobuoys and the Iranian subs would be deployed more to the center of the search area. They are now deployed to far to the west so in two play troughs I only contacted a single sub inside the search area.

But overall a very good scenario...

Thank you for your insights Willie, I´ll be working an upgrade this weekend considering the comments from all the kind forum members who gave me feedback about this scenario.
I´d like to modify the scenario to make it better, but not to make things easier or less challenging to the player. I know it´s difficult to reach that right balance and satisfy everyone.
The Iranian P-3s on the database doesn´t present any ASW load configuration, Not even sonobuoys nor MAD. The only armed version I´ve found carries Chinese anti ship missiles. I´ll try to find a way to change that or at least borrow a late 70s configuration from another country who have P-3s.

Regards

P.

New version upgrade.
Resized and relocated patrol and random initial placement areas.
Loadout of one MPA has changed.
One sub has the best crew Iran can produce.(new side added.)
Target speed set slower and initial placement has changed.
Scenario now lasts 24hs.
As usual, please, send your comments.

Thanks!

EDIT: Iranian ETA tweak.
