Newish here. I'm wondering if there is a WWII database and how far back it extends.
I'd like to do a Mers el-Kabir scenario (UK v France, 1940). Any help?

1) You can just search WW2 and/or WWII and read the threads that have already discussed this topic...

2) Open up the database viewer in the game and just look at the Cold War DB for the countries and ships.

3) I am pretty sure you won't find much earlier than 1943. A few scattered units and that's it.

I've a fair list of missing Imperial Japanese Navy platforms that are not currently in the CWDB to request but I'm having tons of issues just getting a simple post done in any thread.

I think they know the list of WW2 ships are incomplete. This isn't a WW2 simulator. It has been stated before that there are some issues with supporting true WW2-style combat.

Awesome, thank you. I'm not sure what issues there might be with WW2 style combat, but so far I've been quite happy with the test scenario I'm working on (Darter and Dace vs. Force A - Palawan Passage)

To me the main issue will be communications. WW2, especially pre-1943 WW2, had very poor radio communications. From my experience playing Command, it is not straightforward reproducing that effect.

the same could be said for submarines in current CMANO, as in controlling a submarine as well as a surface group.

I think the real challenge with WWII is actually air-to-air combat, as dogfight maneuvers haven't been really worked out. So perhaps WWII battles could start off being limited to Surface battles (Denmark Strait, Surigaio Strait, Savo Island)and one sided carrier operations (Pearl Harbor). Perhaps the largest battle in area that could be done would be the Hunt for the Bismarck

In modern you can use sides easily to limit comms to subs. Its up to the scenario designer. In WW2 its the unreliability of comms, as well as the limitations of the early radios.

I keep seeing complaints about the comms to subs and there a number of things scenario designers can do to simulate limited comms to subs.
