When you host the game, you should put ok or no before the other join game? Have some tips to do to make it work?

This has worked for us on the Dev Team fine.

Have you followed the procedure described in the game Manual precisely, step by step?

Tips?

  • Make sure you are entering correct IP addresses.
  • Make sure your firewalls are not blocking the game traffic.

    Good luck.

Also note that if you are trying to play over the internet rather than locally the IP address you get by following the manual is most likely wrong as you will get the internal IP rather than the external if any kind of router is used.

To get the external IP you can for instance Google "what is my ip?".

I tried to play with Lysimaque tonight, we often play together in multiplayer.

    - we have follow the manual
    - with an external ip address
    - I know how to configure my ports
    - we have deactivated our firewall

    Without success...

Common, of course we read the manual.

We did this , modem caller, start a new game, then choose the same scenario, enter in the map, choose TCP IP, enter the ip of my friend and still no sucess. And it is not because IP, because it work fine in many other games .

Have someone that want to try with us, just to see if it is a problem about our connection or about the game?

Nothing personal meant by it. Please don't take offense. It's a standard, pro forma question. Must check to see that every 't' is crossed, every 'i' is dotted.

NetPlay has been verified to be WAD for internal networks, but not yet for external Internet use.

I just tried NetPlay with another Dev Team member -- Crossroads -- but no luck.

We will study the issue, er, issues. There are potentially so many of them.

We might be in firewall Hades here. So many firewall layers (router, Windows, Norton), so many rules, so many differences between my setup and Crossroads'!

    In the meantime, try PBEM?

Thank you to try . We desactivated our firewall yesterday, without sucess. I guess for external internet it is impossible to play by IP right now. Hope we could in few times with a patch, pebm is cool, but play by ip during one night session is better.

The Internet is a much more complicated place than it was 20 years ago when this game was first designed. Routers, NAT, multiple firewall layering, port forwarding, IPv6, etc., etc. -- yikes!!

We will study up on these issues and see what might be done. Can't promise anything near term, unfortunately.

Again, we have verified that NetPlay works perfectly fine on an internal LAN.

Thanks for your understanding and patience. At least NetPlay is not advertised on the game's Product Page, I don't think. So it's not a promised feature, rather, a bit of a bonus. [edit: wrong! it is so advertised. ]

You could probably get it to work by setting up a VPN host and having the other player connect to it. Hamachi can do this very easily and is rather popular for some games. But ideally this wouldn't be needed of course.

Thanks for that tip. We should try something like that!

When playing over Internet without your own IP address, I recommend Hamachi VPN utility, we tested it with my friends in several games and it works fine.
