Future SPWAW Gold What characteristic I would attach to SPWAW Gold from other Strategy games. from SPWAW 1/A The sound. 2/A The penetration program. 3/A Unit data. 4/A PBEM. 5/A All countrys Armys. 6/A Summer / Autumn / Winter / Spring Maps. from Close Combat IV. 1/B The sound. 2/B Graphics. 3/B Map system. 4/B Vehicles reverse gear. From Combat Missiom. 1/C The sound 2/C Graphics (3D). 3/C Map system. 4/C The penetration program. 5/C Vehicles reverse gear. 6/C Playback. 7/C Waypoints. What more I would like to add to SPWAW Gould. 1/D Ability to choose witch ammo to use, HE / AP / APCR. 2/D In Ambush mode, ability to choose on what visible area my unit opens fire at first. 3/D Balanced equipment. Artillery / Troop / Tank / Historically. 4/D A tank should be observed by troops (noise) even if it is not visible, when it is moving 200 m away in the woods for example. 5/D Make it possible to over take enemy tank / bazooka / machine gun and so on. those equipment should be with the ammo it had when it was overtaken. 6/D Bridge layer tanks. 7/D Seperate mines against tanks and infantry. 8/D More unit sizes, from a tank size of 20 to a hidden sniper with a size of 0. 9/D Possibility to choose on what part (the weakest point) on the tank to shoot at with a AT-gun for example, with different percent of success. 10/D Enable to easy-add more unit information from the internet to the Encyclopedia on my own SPWAW Gould. 11/D Enable revers forward and paus looking anywhere in a playback. +Possibility to look the hole game in a long movie and save if it`s a great victory. What do you think ? honestly, would you by this game from Matrixgames if it would cost around 50 dollars ?. [ April 20, 2001: Message edited by: Tortfeasor ]

Inspiring from other games is always a good idea..many things were reported here..many many things can be added more to these such as features for having SPWAW as an aero-naval battle exstensor..and obviously a 3D view..but also never forget what has already been done till now...that's a huge work and we also should give a breath to enjoy all of this The only important thing is that MAtrix is going to realize the importance of this branch ..so it's just a question of time and patience...

Yes and no. When people talk about this, what they should be talking about, if they are not, is sound being incorporated into the game. While as the game is, only the sense of sight is being applied for detection, but if you incorporate sound on the level of hearing certain tanks at 200m., as an example, you would also need to play out all other sounds. Every tank could not be heard at 200m. particularly if the listening unit itself were a buttoned up tank, or if it were infantry with a lot of tank-size or larger guns going off louder than the sound being made by the moving tank at 200m.

Well then it chould be heard at 100m. I dont think that a tank chould be able to sneek up to shooting infantry.

That sound thing is alredy made to work on Combat mission, in Combat Mission the sound that the infantry hears is made to an unidentifierd dark tank siluet.

Oh what the hell... here's my wishlist. (DISCLAIMER: I do not ask, require or expect Matrix to address any or all of these issues. This is just what I would do, given infinite resources.) Bugs:
• Reinforcement flags are randomly left out in random battles with a custom map. Workaround is to load the map once in a hotseat game before starting the real game. Also, R-flags do not get saved in a map. ( http://www.matrixgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=004057 )
• All slot 4 weapons which have a warhead greater than 3 have a 360 degree firing arc. ( http://www.matrixgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=004219 )
• Prevent the receiving party of an airstrike seeing the opposing player's troops.
• Vehicles immobilized in the editor often get fixed at the start of the scenario.
• If you set a lot of spec ops target hexes and then set artillery priority hexes, spec ops targets are reset to your artillery targets. Probably vice versa too. (Hard to reproduce.)
• With C&C on, clicking on each recon unit for the first time does not display the movement range correctly.
• Fix vehicle crews being added automatically to kill score (if you kill them, they are counted twice).
• Is unit availability rerandomized every time you enter reinforcement screen and is it carried over from the initial purchase phase?
• AP ammo is loaded to a unit only in the same hex, HE ammo is loaded for units in surrounding hexes also.
Modifications:
• Make CBF powerful. ( http://www.matrixgames.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002616.html )
• Uncap the map *width* and height limit.
• Make the campaign generator use bigger maps.
• Give all countries two OOB's (like France/Free France), divived for example by year, rarity or mech/inf.
• Fix the close-up AP model somehow.
• Make tanks avoid buildings when retreating.
• Make retreating smarter, away from the enemy first, only then towards the retreat hex.
• Optimize pathfinding for tanks (15-30 moves) instead of halftracks (30-50 moves).
• Immobilized turretless tanks have many times too wide a firing arc (90 degrees).
• Firing on a routed unit should not make it revert to pinned 95% of the time like it does now.
• Add a toggle for fast artillery sound. Or at least make it play the normal explosion sound instead of the long one if that was causing crashes. Anything but the silence.
• Do not show the loaded units when you right-click a enemy vehicle.
• Limited intel shouldn't abstract player's own troop icons.
• Disallow mine buying in meeting engagements and allow them only for the defending player in Assault/Advance games.
• Make multiple tank hulks in the same hex count for the movement cost.
• Having all victory hexes ends the game always. Shouldn't force morale also be low?
New features:
• Add multiplayer option in campaigns.
• Add multiplayer option (3+ players) in PBEM and hotseat.
• Let player fire smoke grenades in op-fire. Or change op-fire to op-control which gives you total control of the unit.
• Allow reversing for vehicles (20 move points/hex, with 4 times the breakdown chance) and stopping the vehicle by a key so you don't have to wait to the next turn before you can fire accurately (stopping will eat half the move points and shots). Don't let infantry be stopped because that would mess with the assault chance.
• Record the whole battle into a special VCR file (only shots which kill something or moves which capture a victory hex). This file will then be played event by event by the user who can also scroll and zoom the map. It can be saved for later viewing and sharing.
• Add 1-3 turns randomly at the end of a battle.
• New terrain: breakable ice.
• New graphics: turret flying off a tank, infantry casualties left as bodies on the battlefield.
Trivial stuff:
• Fix encyclopedia changing to display fort data when the cursor has passed over a button.
• Planes which don't have or have run out of bombs shouldn't display the bombing message.
• Add scands, a key buffer and a word wrap to the log. Also sending messages would be more convenient by using the player's number instead of name.
• Add "D - Fire smoke grenades" in gamehelp.txt.
• Add "more breakdowns" in forests in terrain.txt.
• Set live delay to 0 by default in the preferences.
[ April 20, 2001: Message edited by: Kharan ]

" 11/D Enable revers forward and paus looking anywhere in a playback. +Possibility to look the hole game in a long movie and save if it`s a great victory" What you mean Tortfeasor ? I like that example PBEM game turns could "collect" same big file ( when game end) and then play and look, pause examine how my and enemys troop moved. Then you could collect PBEM games in files and replay that when you want, send by email somebody. Steel wants that kind shooting

Even at a 100m. it's entirely possible not to hear it due to noise coming from your tanks engines/gunfire, or the same sounds from the enemies other equipment. It's artificial to put hearing in the game unless you consider more sound than just an enemy vehicle moving. In addition, just as in sighting, I would imagine that how much attention you can give to that noise might make a great difference too.

Well I can say from personal experience, that with more than one rifle going off in close proximity, you will be hard pressed to hear much else!! With even a squad firing at once, forget hearing that tank. Better chance would be someone spotting it, not hearing, lots of firearms discharged in succession, or at once, are a constant assault on your scenses, and are a little hard to take.

Hi Tfeasor, many good things here from you and Kharan.. I like a lot of points there..I do not think SPWAW has arrived its point of no further development..there are still a lot of things that can improve this game at the top of the top... If only SPWAW gained a 3D view and different scales (from single squad to battalion level staying togheter ), I can say with no doubt it will be a MASTERPIECE in wargaming world today equal to other great titles we all know and that earn money ! A lot has been written here about all the positive charachteristics of SPWAW...It has been said that this game heightens the thoughtfully ,turn-based ,way of playing strategy rather than the mouse special skills (like Sudden strike ecc)...all of this has been just discussed here..I want to keep myself in argument so after I make you notice how much Matrix is going to raise its importance to this SPWAW's future depending to our feedback I can say this : All of your improvements are right and I think that at long distance we will all have them included in SPWAW..Matrix prooved many times this sort of behavior.. But I was looking for two aspects that actually are only marginal to SPWAW I called them 'aero-naval' features.. In few words actually we can not create any scenario that tells about the Battle of Britain ,Midway or the Capo Matapan battle.. the U-boots hunting and other battles such as Malta , Creta ecc. can only be approximated starting from a later point... before I discovered ACHTUNG SPITFIRE I was of the opinion that SPWAW could not be extended from only ground battles..but that game simulated fighters and air combat so in a simple and elegant way I felt very surprised and I thought at once to my loved Steel Panthers..how would it be great to import this to SPWAW !! We have got aircraft..and if a larger scale will became available then I expect more attention to Recon planes , Fighters.. and why not voting SPWAW to a complete aero-naval game like WWIIONLINE game by Rats is going to offer ? with larger maps and carriers or battleships ? Limits are a matter of design ! Now I only think that it's a question of time..maybe years to go ..but I feel an optimistic forerunner... well for the present I asked speed=30 for cargo planes...so they can be considered 'useful' for their task.. and what about cargoes for vehicles ? and many more...next time... Bye
