What a disaster!
Is it safe to port my CVs at Rabaul or Shortland after taking PM?
Last night I hit Allied's CV at Noumea from Lunga. Once IJN player has built level 3 airfields at Lunga and Gili Gili, there is no safe harbor for Allied player any more.:D

Dascateer was actually just quite lucky the necessary 2-3 times in the game.

His luck:

#1 Shot down 35 of my VAL's with Wirraways in one turn in the _most_ critical part of my first assault against Port Moresby and forced me to r'n'r for a few weeks. This abled him to repair, refit and ship stuff to PM.

#2 I cooced up _brilliant_ maneuver that included perfect timing and all sorts of things never seen before designed to take out his carriers and get a foothold on Australia and bypassing Port Moresby. Results? All of his carriers suffered critical hits (2-3 torps and 5+ bobs) but none was sunk and I had to retire because of fuel.

#3 This AAR he posted. I had regiments armed to teeth, aircrews trained so that they looked more like ballerinas than japs and I was all geared up for auto victory and huge battles in mid December.

.. And guess what Ross? I'm suffering UV frustration right now (never been sexually frustrated but I think this is worse). You can be sure I'm going to take it out on you. ;)

Cheers,

Anssi

Now, now. Lets's not be bitter!!! It is unbecoming. I will admit luck was a factor (always is), but lets not overstate the facts. Only one carrier was damaged sufficiently to have to send back to Pearl (Enterprise), and one had to be laid up in Brisbane for extensive work, but the others were virtually untouched (if you don't count their shattered air wings).

As for all those Val's getting whacked? My pilots had a lot of heart.

Don't forget significant issues that went your way too. Never seen a US Battleship sunk by two torpedo hits before.

Had it not been for my decisive strike on your carriers in Shortland the issue would have been decided by your move against Australia for auto victory; a move that I was anticipating and shifting my forces to receive over a month beore it was to be launched. Pity too, because that would have been a magnificent battle, and one that I was more than a little worried about. Overall an excellent game that I learned a great deal from.

I may have to take you up on your offer of another game to demonstate it was no fluke!! :D

Any offers of another game will be gladly accepted!

The bitter fruit of defeat poisons my mood. You are a top player and you do deserve credit. Luck favors the brave commander and I shouldn't attribute my defeat to that alone.

A pity we didn't see the final battle for autovictory as it surely would have been something to remember.
