Gamer's Gate has IL:2 Cliffs of Dover on sale for $2.49!

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-IL2CODUS/il-2-sturmovik-cliffs-of-dover

As mentioned before, you need to add the Team Fusion patches to fully enjoy the experience. Get them here

http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5058&p=52711

Even if you don't want the game, but are interested in the aircraft of the period... check out the incredible series of aircraft profiles available here:

http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16592

Definitely download this guide from Chuck Owl:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-uSpZROuEd3b19DaUJmdGlxZ2M&authuser=0

Everything you ever wanted to know about aircraft in the Battle of Britain, not just specific CLOD stuff.

Their site is full of instructions and advice about everything in the game. Lots of it worth reading just for the entertainment value.

One day left to take advantage of this incredible value. The game is huge value at $9.95... getting it for $2.49 is actually obscene underpricing.

Don't miss this one

Edit - Never mind. Just the statement itself, turns me away from the game, no matter what it means.

It means you get a Steam key! Most every game you buy on Gamer's Gate, Direct to Drive or even Amazon now works this way. Get used to it or give up on a lot of great software.

No to incite you Greybriar but every game you buy from Matrix or Slitherine has the same clauses in them. I believe your a bit to paranoid about that particular clause.

Every company is going to cover its 'arse' in some form or another. All that bullet tells me is if my PC gets infected and I can't log into Steam because of it, its not Steams fault for my infected PC. Same thing is said by Matrix.

http://www.matrixgames.com/termsandconditions.asp

"Limitation of Liability:
IN NO EVENT WILL MG, ITS SUPPLIERS, OR OTHER THIRD PARTIES MENTIONED AT THIS SITE BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THOSE RESULTING FROM LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION) ARISING OUT OF THE USE, INABILITY TO USE, OR THE RESULTS OF USE OF THIS SITE, ANY WEB SITES LINKED TO THIS SITE, OR THE MATERIALS OR INFORMATION CONTAINED AT ANY OR ALL SUCH SITES, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY AND WHETHER OR NOT ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. APPLICABLE LAW MAY NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
"
Same stuff just written differently sir.

I fail to see in the Matrix Limitation of Liability you quoted a clause stating I could lose the use of my account and the games therein, unlike the passage I quoted in the Steam User Agreement.

I fail to see why you think this is a major point of distrust. Maybe your an older fellow who's interests are narrowed in what you like to play and you don't have any use for Steam, I don't know. But its your right to be paranoid if you so chose to do so but I don't think a company the size of Steam would have any reason to suddenly pull the plug on your account or to deny you access to your games.

I think its nice when you buy the game you get the executable file so you have direct access to it anytime you want to use it. But I believe your limiting yourself from all the wonderful things Steam can do for or offer to you. Its a great client to access a huge multitude of different game genre and sales. In addition it allows you easy access to communicate with friends and to join in on multiplayer games. It allows you to keep all your games up to date with no fuss.

I have no problem if you chose not to trust Steam, its your world sir, you chose the size of it you want to live in

You aren't the first Steam fanboy I have encountered and no doubt you will not be the last. If you refuse to believe what you read with your own eyes, it is only your own fault.

Enjoy your Steam games while you can.

I bought IL2 CoD the day it came out. The actual, physical DVD.

Yep, it's on my Steam list of games too.

So now, all I have to do is d/l from Steam w/o digging out the DVD.

Same with Rome II, Shogun II, To End all Wars, Civ V, Call of Duty Black ops 2, Distant Worlds Universe, and so on.

Never had a problem with Steam.

Just for kicks...

Downloaded To End All Wars from Steam.

Turned off Steam.

Turned off modem.

Oh no!!! Now I can't play it.

Oh, wait, the box comes up that says can't connect.

Drat, still can't play it.

Oh, wait, there is this little button that says off line mode.

Whew, proceeded to play.

SES Jutland and RJW have off line mode too. Don't have to start the game every seven days
to keep it active like I used to.

I have no idea what objections others have but my main objection is the agreement may be changed, and then my only option is to leave, if I am not happy with the changes.

Cut from: 8. AMENDMENTS TO THIS AGREEMENT
....
"Furthermore, Valve may amend this Agreement (including any Subscription Terms or Rules of Use) unilaterally at any time in its sole discretion."
....
"Your failure to cancel your Account within thirty (30) days after the entry into force of the amendments, will constitute your acceptance of the amended terms. If you don’t agree to the amendments or to any of the terms in this Agreement, your only remedy is to cancel your Account or to cease use of the affected Subscription(s)."

My final posting about this subject. I truly feel sad for all of you who allow the little 'legality' of things limit your boundaries in games and probably other aspects of life. I've enjoyed over 10 years of Steam services, I'm sure I will enjoy another 20 more. Like I've said, its your right to be paranoid and its your right to live in the size of world of your own choosing.

In my opinion this old saying sums it up for me, 'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.'

I'm guessing none of you have credit cards then... as they contain the same kind of "we can do anything we want to you at any time" language. Your option is to go without a credit or debit card... good luck with that.

I quit worrying about all the legalize you have to accept to play a game many years ago. You can't change it, or limit your acceptance... you either comply or don't play the game... any game, actually, as they have all had extensive limitation of liability language since the Apple II days.

Since I only buy games on sale at huge discounts these days, I'm willing to take the risk of some future ability to play the game for the fun I enjoy out of it now. So far, I've been screwed over by Nitro Games (East India Company) and now on Koger's StormPowered (Jutland). Pretty good record considering how many games I have bought in my life.

Steam offers a lot of good support, including some pretty hard hitting reviews to help you evaluate a game. Easy listing of DLC content available, easy access to game manuals, discussion forums, automatic updating, and much more. I really don't think they are going to announce their "closing" any time soon. They have done nothing but grow. I'd be more nervous about buying elsewhere to be honest.

Anyway, you missed a great bargain on CLOD, but it will be back again. Another expansion patch is about ready for release from ATAG too, with more planes, campaigns, and effects. This game will be around for awhile thanks to the community.

another lil ole saying: You can't miss what you never had.

Also, with game companies like Matrixgames, Slitherine, HPS, etc. etc. as long as they don't follow the steam only path I don't think the majority of us have anything to worry about here. Most of that stuff on steam is well it's just not adult material. Some things but most are not. All the good games I want are here or those others I listed. I certainly don't need steam to have a good gaming time.

There's also a little thing called a prepaid visa that is a card outside of your banks or creditors. You goto Walmart or Walgreen and you load it with whatever amount you want and nobody is getting your id or any other vitals. As long as you load the card with the exact amounts you will never lose anything unless the merchant is a crook and just takes your money and runs.

I on the otherhand use a 3rd party bank with only funds in it to buy online stuff. Never attached to my bank accounts or creditors. No $3 charge for a reload of the account either.

True, but when they increase their fees and interest rates on your account your still screwed, despite your option to refuse to accept and just pay off your entire balance. My bank just increased my monthly account fee from $9 to $13, didn't even notify me... it just showed up on my account.

I don't see what Steam can do to me that compares to all the financial shenanigans I have endured over the years

If that would only happen <sigh> but look at all the people loudly objecting to Ubisoft's U-Play system. I don't see them backing off yet... I dearly want Anno 2070 and GG had a great bargain on the complete collection of the game and all the DLC's... but I checked the Steam reviews and many, many people were continuing to post horror stories about U-Play not letting them play their games. I decided I didn't want to roll the die on whether I would have problems so I passed on the game again.

I'm sure Ubisoft noticed my concerns <not> and I'm waiting to see what they do next. Hoping popular pressure will force a change.

My recent bad experience with StormPowered's Jutland, really turned me off to individual companies all deciding they have to require their own little Gaming System... not that even GOG just introduced "GOG Galaxy" though it isn't required... yet. EA has their "Origin" system which didn't work well for me with their "Free to play" editions of their old classics.

No, I'd rather take a chance with Steam than play along with individual companies's DRM systems. I'm even hesitant to buy new John Tiller games now... though I trust him to take care of his customers if he had to close up shop.

Matrix/Slitherine/AGEOD and HPS do give me the warm cuddly feelings that my games are all safe to play forever Paradox used to, but I'm not so sure about them anymore (see my gripes about East India Company). The way PON kinda bounced around there before AGEOD turned to Matrix/Slitherine was scary as well, even though my PON Paradox purchase remained playable and not orphaned.

It's a tough world, I don't blame anyone for being a skeptic

But you did miss a great deal on CLOD at $2.49 even if you had to hold your nose to get it

PS thanks to everyone for helping me run up my post count as I aspire to my 5th star

GOG Galaxy exists because a significant number of GOG customers want it. If GOG Galaxy ever became mandatory, GOG would probably lose so many customers that it would go out of business--Good Old Games was founded on the principle of DRM-Free games and after the name changed to GOG.com its DRM-Free policy continued.

Just because a game is sold on Steam doesn't mean it doesn't have another form of DRM. Just look at the UPlay games as well as SecuROM and other lesser known copy protection methods that exist on some titles in addition to Steam's DRM.

another lil ole saying: You can't miss what you never had.
