I am surprised as well! Will there be a price tag?

quote:

In addition to the original four maps is a new map “Eiterberg” which is jumbo sized (40 x 30 km versus the previous 20 x 15 km) and supports larger force structures for adventurous players.

Eiterberg? As in Eiterberg bei Annweiler?

Good chance of that. Just south of Fulda I believe. William would know.

Having trouble with finding these places on Google Earth...

FPG's maps didn't take place in fictional locations, did they?

FPG's original maps were hand painted and based on the general terrian in areas of Germany, but not exact locations like we use now. The bonus map, however, is real world.

The Eiterfeld (bonus) map covers the triangle Bad Hersfeld (excluded), Huensfeld (included), Rasdorf (included), some 30km Northeast of Fulda and near the Inner German Border.
The terrain is dominated by cone shaped hills, including Rasdorf's 'Three Sisters', and cut by the Fulda and Haune rivers. You'll find a map (ours, showing the area in the late 1980's) at the bottom of this post.
Eiterfeld, in the Fulda district, Hesse is a central town in one of the more open valleys.

The US 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Blackhorse") was tasked to guard this terrain in the 1980's. The Fulda and Haune rivers were the two natural obstacles to base their defense on.

Just across the border were the 3rd NVA Border Regiment and the Soviet 8th Guards Army.

Point Alpha, once an 11 ACR observation post at the border between Rasdorf and Geisa, and today an interesting museum, is just one hex off the map.

At 40x30km, the Eiterfeld is 4 times a standard FCRS map. This in style of Flashpoint Germany, which featured large maps covered by more than one scenarios, and to provide sufficient creative 'maneuver space' for your own scenarios.

William lovely maps as always, how does it run on systems with a fairly large number of runners (I'm thinking of your NTC map)

Just to indicate that we're serious about getting real world terrain right*, (and that we're serious about having fun):
one of my holiday pictures, taken between Point Alpha and Rasdorf, looking towards Rasdorf, this Summer.

That day, I was able to get a feel for much of the terrain between the border and Eiterfeld.

OOOowwww!
I thought about the next step after the redrawing current map, and go to northwest to the region of Fulda (even started to mark the desired area)

This region is quite important and covers two existing map so now there will be 3 in one!
Now, I have mixed feelings. How much will be different relief in both cases? Because in the new map, as far as I know, you started to use another method of marking the relief.

Slower... Large numbers of runners, and scrolling large maps slow down the game a bit. It is being looked into.

Four weeks, not including the holidays. It's a fairly straightforward map to create (not too many small forests or streams). The hard parts were the rail roads (due to tunnels, and due to some closed rail roads being in use in the '80s) and figuring out 1980's B84 road trajectory near Huenfeld.

This map features 8 elevation steps of approx. 50m, from 1 in the Haune and Fulda river valleys to 8 at the Soisberg, Breiter Berg hill tops.

Woah! which means that the scale height of 400 meters? And that was enough for the region near the Fulda?

Just for Bad Neustadt I used 8 levels for 100 meters each from 200-900

That's the great thing about making maps. We all see things a bit differently and can emphasize our own personal preferences in the maps we create.

Good Hunting.

Just curious... did William redo the 'actual' Flashpoint Germany map...? I would really enjoy that; a 'blast from the past'. That map was real pretty but unfortunately I had a tough time with LOS and elevations.

Jack54, yes the 4 original game maps have been redrawn in the Red Storm standard map styles. You can see them in the screen shots on the product page.

Thank Capn.... I checked both product pages, Germany Reforged and the discontinued page for Flashpoint Germany, and was able to see the corresponding map areas.... Nicely done

Very much looking forward to this. I enjoyed Flashpoint Germany so much that Flashpoint Campaigns was a must buy for me as soon as it was announced. Being able to go back and play those scenarios again with the new game engine will be a blast.

Having said that, I think I'm the most excited about the new Fulda area map/scenario. I've gamed that area a lot with other games. I'm looking forward to the OTS take on it.

There are some challenges associated with bringing those older scenarios to the new table.

It's the age old challenge; do you bring over as an exact port or do you bring them as the new and improved 'with all the bells and whistles' version. There will be those that will want it either way. Some will want it both ways.

There was only one answer to that. We did it Charles' Way!!

Good Hunting.
