So after playing this game for a few years one thing I have noticed is that even in cases where a TF is in the same hex as fighter squadron that range 0 LRCAP is more effective in protecting the TF than range 0 CAP. It also leads to higher fatigue leading me to believe the difference is that LRCAP puts a higher percentage of planes into the air at a given time than regular CAP.

My question is whether or not the same principle would apply to a CV TF with the fighters. I know there is a huge penalty for LRCAPing a CV TF with LBA but I do not know if that applies to fighters in the TF itself. My hypothesis is that having a portion of your fighters with range 0 LRCAP will mean you have a larger proportion of fighters in the air ready to fight immediately upon a raid being detected which seems to be a key factor in air defense.

I am reluctant to use LR-CAP because the pilots get fatigued. To compensate for the extra fatigue I rest about 30% of them instead of flying 100% as I would if they were on regular CAP covering their own base. I am curious about the difference in setting a range of say 3 hexes with regular CAP as compared to covering the same hex that is a distance of 3 away using LR-CAP.

If I had to guess, I'd say that there's no exception in the LRCAP penalty for the fighters coming from the CV TF itself.

But if the reason the fatigue is higher is that they are keeping a higher percentage of planes in the air at any given time, couldn't that compensate for having to use more rest? Also, range 0 LRCAP may not have the same fatigue issues IRC. Might test this in a sandbox if I get some time this weekend...
