Not much to report, will start moving forward in India again.

Took another couple of Alaskan bases.

Bombers not flying at Seattle, my guess is the aggression isn't high enough. Will bomb other guys.

I am falling into VP harvesting now and clean up. Lots of bases to take, lots of pockets to clear.

Great progress on the Angkang road, should knock out several more corps and actually progress a hex.

2.78 to 1. Still lots of basic VP to grab.

Should grab Seward today, Darwin is under attack, Wenchow just got some artillery, artillery headed to Luzon, troops send to Mindanao to finish the remnants off there in then invade Luzon from the south.

2500 AV plus large artillery train attacking out of Chittagong today. Planned some aerial strikes on Allied bases today. Jocke is content to let his AA fight for him...we will see if I can surprise him a little.

We fly two squandrons of bombers into Calcutta, which Jockee defends with fighters. Despite a Zero sweep first, escorts and LRCAP our bombers take in on the chin.

Good ratio of planes lost to killed on the sweep however.

Two good fights in China; bomb the USA again for little damage. Seward holds out for now.

This day the Nick A factories reach 100% and will start production of the Nick A on the morrow.

I will have 4 squadrons of these guys active, and I plan on using them aggressively sweeping the Allies. Plane production will start at 90 per month.

There is no point in making the B model as I believe only 1 small squadron uses it. The C version adds another sentai, but I have no plans on researching it early.

I now have two fully repaired factories working on the Tojo IIb; the Tojo IIa will begin on June 1, 1942. Only a few squadrons are active with the Tojo line.

The A6M3a and A6M5 are being researched now at 2 and 6 points per day respectively.

None of the Oscar/Tony lines are fully repaired yet.

In about 15 days I should get the Ha34 engine bonus to go along with the Ha35 bonus.

China is being bombed fairly heavily right now. Nailing the retreating Chinese troops, plus airbases close to the fighting to diminish Chinese supply. Very effective.

Darwin falls to a lone Tank Regiment. Seward still holds on despite an increased ground presence and some bombarding by ships. Skagway is proving stubborn.

Lost an E off Canada to the horde of American subs there.

Re-starting our stalled Indian invasion; lots of artillery landing on Luzon.

April 21, 1942

Seward falls...25k supplies seized.

Nicks being produced in good numbers (90/month). First sentai ready in a day or two for sweeps over America. 2nd Sentai getting ready for Indian operations. 4 Total sentais will be converted.

A6M5 will advance another month in a day; Tojo IIb has 3 repair points a day, soon to be 6 when we cross the magical 500 level in a few days. Tojo IIa will come online with no acceleration (i.e. June).

Thanks, Pax.

The Nagato, that took 3 dutch torps, is safely disbanded in port. Will sit for a a while, pumping out the counter flooding, and then make it back to the bigger facility. She is definitely out of the war for a long time.

Allies have retreated from southern India for the most part. Small garrisons to protect against an air drop on the rail lines....should be able to grab all the way to Ledo without much problems I think.

Should take the southern towns from Darwin too...

Artillery unloading on Luzon, will be shipping Naval Guard units from Honshu to the PI to garrison and finish taking all the bases. Tedious. Another tedious chore is taking all the dot bases in the SRA, etc.

More and more bomber squadrons are being bought out and sent to China.

I remember what a relief it was for me logistically when I first learned about using Mavises (divided, on 90 rest) + paras. Now a single para unit divided and sent piecewise into different theaters covers all my needs wrt this chore.

Thanks, GetAssista. I prefer to wait to use that tactic until there are no chances for the Allies to spring a surprise with bombers or surface ships before I use that particular tactic.

All organized defenses in Mindanao collapse and surrender today, releasing the troops needed to take southern Luzon and more bombers to soften up Manila.

We bomb the ship facilities in Canada again for more points...a steady trickle.

Large sweeps of Calcutta and no RAF present. Comilla will fall today.

Knocking on 3-1 VP ratio. Very close.

Lowpe,

Your aerial offensive in North America is not focussed enough.

There is one particularly vulnerable Allied asset and you should have made, and if still possible attempt to do so now, destroy the Catalina factory in Vancouver.  Destroy completely, not damage because the Allies can repair the factory.  Destroy either by land occupation or firestorm.  Destroy Catalina production and British PA units (and that includes certain PA units of other nationalities) don't get replacement airframes until the Sunderland comes into production in 1944.

Afterwards you can focus on the next most critical Allied industry.  Just striking here today and there tomorrow, and over there the following day is merely an irritant.  The Scarlet Pimpernel role is not appropriate here but rather that of Pizzaro.

Many players consider this one of the gamiest thing s you can do.

You really think it's realistic to secure an enemy base with 4 soldiers?

Many players institute a house rule against this kind of exploitative tactic.

Secure? It's more like burn enemy flag dangling on a stake in the sandbank and erect your own flag on the same stake, then get the hell out of that god forsaken hole.
Would be great if the game had neutral bases, because it's neutral for all intents and purposes if you dont have anybody staying there. Alas, game mechanic is different

You are quite correct, I have been extremely lazy in pursuing the air war over Canada. We will see what a stronger attack can garner...

Well, Hans, not really a worry in this game. I am using Naval Guards with fast transports to take bases which might be only a slightly smaller exploit.

I actually might be better off landing the full unit and letting it sit for several days (using the rowboat/autoswitch technique).

My paratroops are for offensive strikes currently...not for taking small bases.

Those aren't exploits . The rowboat corps is unpredictable at best. Flying a Mavis or three to a dot base, landing a 10-30 paratroopers for a day (keep in mind each point of AV is one SQUAD, not one MAN), and making sure the island is "secure" - as in no enemy presence, and now the game sees it as yours so your enemy has to do the same thing if they want to be sure you aren't using it as a base or staging area... that's all entirely realistic and doesn't taste at all like goat or duck or pheasant.

For myself, I've tended to use PBs or APDs with SNLF units, but it takes longer and burns fuel.

For example, here's Baker Island, which isn't even a dot base in the game. It's about 1.5km long and has 4.8km of coastline. One squad of 12 men could walk the entire island in a couple of hours. Most dot base islands are of similarly small size. Saying that you couldn't secure such a small piece of real estate (especially unoccupied real estate), in this game's terms of control, in a day is ridiculous.

Good example for that side of the argument.

But I was thinking more of the unoccupied bases in western OZ that are really towns with a populous that couldn't hope to be controlled by a squad.

Same is true for many unoccupied bases in India.

Yes I was using a bit of extreme hyperbole with the "4 soldiers" comment.

Personally, I play the AI and don't have to worry about ticking off an opponent who might garner the impression I am being gamey in my play.

I don't as a matter of practice do things with fragments of units unless they become fragmented naturally.

Wasn't condemning from a high horse seat of 'holier than thou'...was simply pointing out what opinions I have seen expressed here before.

A couple of days have passed...stepped up air operations in Canada and India. Vancouver is burning, but the trick is how to get it to burn down the Cat factory there? Patience and continued bombing is called for. Lousy weather, hoping May clears up a bit.

My northern Oz adventures are coming to an end...almost destroyed the last unit there.

Destroyed all the fleeing troops from Anchorage. 7-8 American Units totally destroyed. More invasions happening in Alaska. Skagway still holds for now.

Savaged the retreating units from Wenchow again...they are pretty much combat ineffective now. Another attack set for the Ankang road...only two Chinese Corp are left to fight. Bombing is stepped up in China, and the Allies put the Chinese fighters into play yesterday but we missed a fight.

Took another Indian town...moving to cut the rail lines.

Victory point ratio climbing.

This turn we should cross into Paoshan in a shock attack....six days for a Guards Tank Division to become active.

China,

Just bombing and slugging my way forward. Should break the current Chinese position on the Ankang road in an attack or two, down to two beaten up Chinese units there, and only one Chinese corp across the river before I am at the gates of Ankang.

Shocked across the river at Paoshan...so that fight begins.

Just a quick note on fighter development.

A quick estimate puts the the A6M5 at around July/September time frame. I should get the Oscar IIb about the same time.

The Tony should start flying the skies around October.

The Frank A should start around May of 1943. Jack and George a month or two early, but hardly any squadrons fly them.

The emphasis is the Oscar-Frank progression. Secondary emphasis on Tony. For Navy it the The Zero & Sam line.

Interesting point about firestorms and destroying industry...

From the rule book:
Industry damage – Two VPs per point damaged, 20 VPs per point destroyed (an item destroyed
when damaged will yield 18 more VPs). Industry can only be destroyed by firestorms and
A-bombs, but can be damaged by any type of attack (including firestorms and A-bombs)

25 points of LI damage show up at Seattle...done by attacking the manpower. Given the VP awarded I doubt any of it is actually destroyed. Perhaps subsequent attacks/firestorms will then actually destroy it once damaged?

Never paid close enough attention to the process before.
