Just a quick question: I noticed that the AI does not assign air directives to the Coastal Air Force HQ during the first turn of Operation Husky...its airbases are well in range of Sicily and with around 600 assorted planes to dispose of... still they are left to no use.
Any reason for this?

If you check the Show Interdiction Levels at the top you will indeed see that the Coastal airforce is quite busy.

There will be a lot of green numbers in the sea hexes. That is the coastal airforce at work, busy bombing the fish to stop them from becoming fascist. Democracies hate fascist fish.

There is a setting (which is on for the coastal air HQ's) to allow those planes that have unused travel to fly naval interdiction.

If you go into the Show Air Doctrine Screen, on the Naval Patrol tab. You can turn AutoPtrl on or off for each Air HQ.

See my earlier post on this.

Auto Naval patrols are a little under represented as far as after effect information apart from the hex interdiction numbers shifting slightly, sometimes.
I don't see the 'wave' symbol on the battle site locator for auto naval either, increasing my suspicion's that air groups receiving the "auto naval" mission are effectively on holiday :)

Here is a picture from late July '43 of my naval interdiction from just using auto naval patrol.

I don't think they are on holiday.

Mine look NOTHING like that! Maybe its because I'm doing the scenarios rather than the full campaign?

That would be it. I am playing with a lot more planes then you and concentrated them. This is probably 2/3rds of all the naval planes

Aye. A few times I've caught myself thinking, "if only I had a few more.....".

Once i've done with BG Itaiy I will take the training wheels off. Its a handy primer on efficienct use of force though.

I'm currently reading an excellent AAR between Loki100 vs Smokindave34 and Loki is committing the entire Allied air force to the same geographical front size that I am with I'd wager 20-30% of that force.

So you're basically telling me that the AI is leaving all those assets (those belonging to Coastal) to naval patrol?

Pretty unacceptable on my book...gonna overrun that if I find how...

Sure...all you have to do is invade both England and Africa. No problem.
