Memo

It appears there are rogue elements of German troops in Norway which do not wish to withdraw. Scandinavian, and some American troops, are attacking them, and once they are destroyed the USA will make peace with Germany.

War Department, The United States of America
Press release

The Japanese supported coup in Peru was one act too many. The United States has declared war on Japan.

The United States Navy immediately acted to protect the coasts of the United States by attacking Japanese submarines in American waters. We sank 33SS3, but suffered losses of 2SS3 ourselves. We attacked Japanese forces in Venezuela and launched an air attack on Hainan. We gave and took losses in these attacks. The American armed forces will attempt to drive the Japanese out of the western hemisphere.

We are currently at war with Germany, Japan and the Soviet Union, but we hope to make peace with Germany and the USSR soon.

The American people are fully in support of her troops.

Despite an attack from a huge concentration of Soviet armor and infantry in the Kaipeda area, they fail to dislodge German defences in the area. German panzers crash through
Russian defences west of Vilnius and west of Kiev further south. Panzers march!!

Elsewhere a Soviet fleet is totally destroyed in the waters north of Konigsberg. German morale is now at an all-time high.

German troops there were withdrawing. They were just having a difficult time making their way across rough Norwedian terrain
with very little in the way of supplies.....lol They have now hopped on a boat and are gone.

Italy does not condone or approve of the German attack on the Soviet Union and can only seek a solution to the grave danger that Eastern Europe is now in.

Regards the colonial war that the USA has started against the Japanese, perhaps they should have tried the Italian model of Union though trade and common political interest rather than military domination. Here we see the battle lines drawn in South America. Hopefully the war will be confined to south America. The Pope has preyed for a speedy end to the conflict.

The people of Peru had freely made their choice based on the friendliest nation to them.

A war of aggression started by the USA ? A surprise attack on a poor South American country of Venezuela ? Really ? Shameful. Perhaps the USA should have spent more time working with countries in South America instead of starting wars in Scandinavia !

Well, FWIW, I've found South America to be full of nothing, and not worth starting a war over.

The pursuit of Japanese submarines continues. Venezuela has been cleared of enemy troops. Our engineers are building roads through the trackless forests, using care to preserve the environment around them.

The United States offers Germany peace. (A hair trigger mouse button goofed my acceptance of their offer.)

Our armed forces continued to reduce Hainan as Japanese fleets roam the seas around the Philippines. Sixteenth and Twenty Sixth Fleets are heading into the fray. We do not know the position of most IJN fleets, and expect them to contest the Pacific vigorously. We are ready for battle and are sailing in Harm's Way.

German panzers and motorized infantry smash through huge Soviet defences and arrive at the outskirts of Riga in Latvia. Elsewhere big holes are punched through AT & T-26 armored defences by Stuka attacks and panzers get tantalisingly close to Keiv. A very agreeable peace is made with the Americans.

Italy responded to the Soviet threat of war if Italy did not move its forces from Italian territory, by attacking forces on the Soviet Italian border, destroying two Soviet Armored formations. Italy has no design on Soviet territory, but it will not be threatened by the Soviet Union. If the Soviet Union steps back the Italians will not pursue, if they press forward then it will be all out war.

The pursuit of Japanese subs in the Atlantic was a huge operation. We located multiple packs, and ended up sinking 37SS3
at a cost of 1DD1, 2DD2 and 8SS3. We sank 3SS2 off the coast of Hainan, losing 1SS2, to make a round 40 submarines the
Japanese must replace. Their shipyards will be busy.

Here is a map of antisubmarine operations in the Atlantic :

The map released previously gives some idea of the scale of USN anti-sub ops. Many of these units are veterans of the brief naval war with Germany. It is May 1941 but the world's nations seem to be on a strong war footing. American intelligence has consulted frequently with their Chinese counterparts, and no clear picture of Japanese capabilities has emerged. We believe them to have abundant and excellent aircraft, but the size of their naval forces is unknown. Any nation that can field so very many submarines in what is essentially a secondary theater for them surely has surprises waiting in the Pacific.

The U.S. Army will soon be advancing into Brazil, where we will see what land forces the Japanese have prepared there.

Columns of MkIV panzers surge through Soviet defences east of Kaipeda, although Russian defences in the city itself continue to put up stubborn resistance. Recon indicates substantial
Soviet reserves (although relatively inexperienced apparently) in the north around the Leningrad area. Other recon indicates huge artillery formations immediately west of Kiev. Goring
has assured the Fuhrer the Luftwaffe has enough resources to take care of the problem though. U-boat units attack Russian subs and inflict major casualties west of Kaipedia. The 188th
Infantry Division finds itself directly north of Kiev apparently unopposed. The road to Moscow lies tantalisingly close. Two more factory locations are built this month.
Hopefully they will provide more than enough reinforcements for the front line units in the battles ahead. German morale and confidence is very high now. We are confident we can take
anything Stalin throws at us and then some!

Germany makes a very agreeable alliance with the Italians. Hopefully they will take a little bit of the pressure of the German Southern flank.

The Italians destroyed 3 more large Soviet armored formations at the the same location as last months battles Soviet tank hulks litter the battlefields, that will not stop the Soviets of course and the situation in the Balkans shows Soviet armed forces surge from turkey heading for the various Balkan Capitols, the Italians are slightly flat footed no excuse for this as the Soviets had warned of war some 4 months ago, not yet a cause for panic but you don't take on the mighty Soviets without a degree of anxiety.

Japan simply cannot withstand this sort of onslaught from the aggression of the USA. This game will end quickly.

The governments of the United States of America and of China have overwhelming strength and call upon the Japanese to surrender.

South America will be restored to the original governments. China will reoccupy all Chinese lands. Japan will be placed under administration of Gen. MacArthur.

The Emperor may keep the throne. The government must resign, and individuals guilty of war crimes will be prosecuted.

To quote an expert opinion : "Japan simply cannot withstand this sort of onslaught". The Japanese traditionally do not surrender, but times have changed.

The United States and China have no interest in Japanese equipment. It should be be beaten into plowshares.

The Italians continue to resist the mighty soviets, the Germans to our North are engaged in a titanic struggle, the ebb and flow of battle makes for a fluid situation hard to say who has the upper hand, needless to say I hope it is the Axis.

I guess that is one distinction that is not illustrated in GD1938 the difference between peacetime Western economies and wartime economies, the US did not enter Wartime production until very late 1941 for obvious reasons, the game allows the same level of military production regardless of the War and Peace distinction.

@ironduke1955,

Your observation is correct, but in this game the German attack on Sweden, and the American troops there, raised war fever to a pitch. The USN was able to gain valuable experience in anti-sub operations in defeating the U-boats in the North Sea. By the time war with Japan came the USN had both quality and quantity going for them.

By the way, as a player I hope the Japanese Empire will fight to the finish, but if not then a surrender is better than a resignation. There are some very interesting conflicts going on in this game.

War Department, The United States of America
Press release

The surrender of Japan in her war with the United States seems to have encouraged nations who were not a party to the war to acquire ex-Japanese territory. The United States has warned that this must stop - now. No more advances into this unoccupied land. The United States and China will occupy these lands in the course of future operations, but this territory is not up for grabs. The United States and China will defend their claims with warfare. Do not ignore this warning. Careful maps have been made and incursions will be seen.

The United States is busy rebuilding South America, building roads. China has occupied Peking at last.

The UK has moved into Persia to protect against an incursion from the Soviets. We also remind the USA that without the Commonwealth's forces being so arrayed in opposition to the Japanese, the US would not have had as easy a time defeating those forces. Our Pacific moves have not entered any former Japanese land areas. We are merely seeking out reports of IJN vessels and their officers and crews turning to piracy in the political vacuum left by the Emperor's sudden surrender.

Hi.....I got all my problems sorted out at the end of last week. When I went to play the turn on Friday morning
there was a Japanese file in the folder. When I checked again in the evening there was nothing at all there.

I guess we could continue if whoever is playing China could put their completed turn from the last round into the
Dropbox folder?
