The Close Comat series has been around for well over a decade now, and with The Bloody First will mark its first significant update in almost 15 years. This update will change the traditional top down view to a more of a 3D view. While this change is welcomed, is it now time to determine how to move the franchise forward from this point? Should the series resort to a DLC format, where different theatres of combat can be addressed, or should the community continue to rely on user mods?
Regardless of the answers, I for one would like this franchise to continue well into the future with updates that bring it into the current technological capabilities.

Sorry but you are a bit wrong with some point.

First this point.

Bloody First has a top down view and only optionally, you can change the zoom and get a different angle but you can not rotate the camera or get a first person view.

About DLC. Very probably it will be sold as Battle Academy series.

Thanks Nomada for the view clarification. I for one would like this series to morph into somewhat of a DLC or Battle Academy type series.
The "real time" aspect of this series is what I find appealing.

What am I reading? You want close combat to be infested with stupid DLC? May aswell rename the games to Close Combat: EA Sports edition. Leave milking dlc to Fifa and call of duty. We don't want that here. The games being £35 is bad enough as it is and you're asking them to charge for extra cosmetic content?

Please do not think how all the games are as some of these super sales games.

There are many games in the world with good DLC where new additions and scenarios are added. About Slitherine Battle Academy, it has several DLC and all them are very good. They are different and new theaters to the game with new units and more.

DLC can make the release from new theaters faster where the creators add small graphic changes to the main menu, new maps and new units, all them with their new 3D models. Of course a DLC probably would be cheaper because it would use the main game.

Ahh my bad, I am guessing you mean something similar to an expansion pack? Then yes I agree, in a way I think that's what they should of done with the 2d games considering they all use a modified CC5 engine. Sorry if I misinterpreted what you meant the term "DLC" can mean anything these days.

Thanks for the discussion, for Normada Fiefox got the point. When you look at the CC mod community, there are many examples of what this game could be in terms of DLC. It would be encouraging for those that create CC mods be rewarded for their efforts in a share of the DLC profits. Or at least some type of recognition. In the end however, I for one appreciate the modders and their genorisoty of creating mods that extend the life of the game itself.

About because the old versions from CC had not a DLC, probably it was because the engine was old and each new theater added, it needed the creation from the same work added at a new game. I believe how the new engine can let the creation from new theaters of combat with a lot less of work. Remember in the old versions, there was not a map editor and the maps needed be painted manually. It was a lot of work.

However the creation from new theaters are not confirmed and very probably, it will depend from how many copies from the game, they sell. Usually it is the way for other games.

Changes for the better would be good.
As I said on Slitherines forums when ipad seemed to be being considered:

"I hope that the bloody first is being developed with PC in mind so that nothing is dumbed down at least in the first instance.
I would hate to see that the fully fledged bloody first was coming to ipad as it would ring alarm bells for me with regard to how advanced the game would actually be over its predecessors.
3D is a huge step and enables so many other things in line with games like combat mission cmx2, men of war 2 and company of heroes 2.

Please do not make it look cartoon like or not enable zooming. Please make sure the AI is all new and so are other features of the game.
I would also hate to think the original game was just getting a 3D face lift.

Man am I demanding, I so want this to be the most complex, advanced, world beating WARGAME for ww2 tactical combat. Reflecting realism and beating combat missions socks off.
I am not looking forward to a cheap face lift for some quick bucks and a bit of nostalgia."

The good thing from unity3D engine, it is how it can run at many different engines, IOS, Windows, Android and more.

A Bloody First without a zoom would be a ****. At the end, the zoom and other changes of camera are a option for the player.

At the end, you are late because the game is probably very advance and any suggestion will not be taken at too consideration.

CC should stay on the PC. I've tried Firefight on the IPAD and it becomes a chore to play, poking at the units with your fingers, setting fire and move commands. Not to mention the map scroll is challenging (for me at least) as well.

It will be at PC but I will not be surprised if one Apple version is released after the PC version. It is one of the possible features because the game is made with Unity3D.

A MAC version would be fine, CC1/2 were available for Apple owners, as it uses the same mouse based interface instead of touch which requires everything in the GUI to be much bigger.

Example Office 2013 made all the toolbars larger then Microsoft added an option to hide the toolbar so people could see more of their document thus causing more clicks/touches as they made the change for all versions. Windows 10's built in apps are similar but since they have less options than Excel/Word/etc. it had less negative impact....
