I'm really enjoying Flashpoint Campaigns and will be keeping up with this series for sure. But I'm curious how this compares with some of the older but heralded wargames such as...

1) HPS Simulations - "Point of Attack 2" and "Decisive Action"

2) Shrapnel Games - "Battle Group Commander: Episode One" (and previous titles of that series, like Air Assault Task Force, etc.)

3) John Tiller Software - "Modern Campaigns" (Fulda Gap '85, North Germain Plain '85, etc.)

There are others like these, but these cover that modern era hardware and particular challenges like Flashpoint Campaigns does. Is this just a newer, better version? Or are they inherently differnt titles?

Much less involved than Decisive Action. We used to run both at Origins, and in a 4-hour session we'd get thru an entire battle in the old FPG, where we'd barely get out of assembly areas in DA. THere's a HUGE amount of log play in DA that doesn't exist in most other games, in large part b/c DA was designed to be a training tool for CGSC, and then was offered for commercial sale after-the-fact.

FC:RS is a MUCH better game (albeit a smaller scale) than Tiller's Modern Campaigns. The combat resolution phase of FC is actually enjoyable to watch whereas with Tiller's game it was like watching paint dry. The UI and presentation of FC is an evolving improving thing where Tiller has been wringing the life from the same UI and presentation for a long, long time. I've owned them both. I still play FC and no longer have the patience for Tiller's title.
