Hi all,

quote:

ORIGINAL: oldman45

Here is a short list of what is a stomach turner for me. The 5"38 is disliked by the russian designers so as an AA gun its treated very poorly. THey pick and choose what they want historical for balance and flavor. What flavor means is the range of the main guns is based off the height of the rangefinder. In short the IJN ships fire further than any other ship in the game so far. This only applies to the BB's. So Cruisers and Destroyers in some cases can fire further than the US BB's. Did I mention the warspite can only fire 16km. Ships like the North Carolina and Iowa can fire further but the dispersion and the way the trajectory is figured you might hit in the same zip code. The AA on the US ships is abysmal when it used to be overwhelming. The 25mm on the IJN ships is equivalent to the 40mm. They have carriers in there which is not that big a deal except the way the tiering is you can have ships in fights that have no AAA and there are carriers on the other team....

I could go on and on.

AFAIK the designers of WoWs decided to give ships the "effective range" and not the "maximum range" (at which the guns could fire in real life) - this combined with maps that are not that big after all means that all ships have capped engagement range (that can still be increased with advancing through the ship tiers and with modifications for both ship captain and extra ship modules)...

IMHO this is not that big deal... the usage of what you got is what counts!

Hi all,

Fully agree with your post, Bill.

WitP and WoWs currently are the only games I (have time to) play at the moment. On both I accept that realism has to be sacrificed for playability.

Still, the 'feel' of WoWs is right. It really makes an immersion difference of whether you make daring torp runs with a nimble DD or fight long range gun duels with battlewagons.

The variety in tactics and opportunities to fail/succeed as a team as well as an individual are quite surprizing in their diversity.

That said, I simply enjoy the relative simplicity and the stunning graphics when my brain cannot handle WitP after a long working day.

Same here!

BTW, you play on WoWs EU server?

What is your name so that I can recognize you (my name is "Leo_Apollo11" since someone already took "Apollo11" long long time ago and didn't even play)?

quote:

What I do understand though, as an air guy, is that the navy experts on this forum might have problems with some of the arcadish features. I don´t care so much as ships are concerned, but I have the same issue when it comes to aircraft on such or similar games. Lack of realism is an immersion killer to me when planes are concerned.

My biggest issue with WoWs are CVs - they should be properly matched by Match Maker (1 vs. 0 or 2 vs. 1 is almost sure win for the side that has advantage) and the way torpedo bombers work in Open BETA is not OK at all IMHO...

LoBaron ;)

Looking forward to meet you and everybody else of our great community in battle.

If you want my opinion on CV's, yes they are an issue if not balanced per team, but only as so few know how to counter air attacks. As experience of the players increases I expect that balance issue to decrease. I have seen CA escorts rip through air attacks so decently that the enemy air was neutralzed without a single shell exploding on a carrier. I have also seen well driven IJN battleships evade multiple hammer and anvil attacks without getting even near an airdropped torp. The trick is to counter the attack before the fish are dropped. At the moment there is too much tunnelvisioning as the players on average are new. It was already getting better at the end of closed beta although at that time the MM was much worse than now.

Hey All,

Just wanted to add my voice on this one, I have been playing for a month or so and have been really enjoying it. The game is out of Beta now and have recently added the Tirpitz and in two weeks are adding Russian destroyer line, German cruiser line in addition to the American and Japanese tree's. I am HOPING HOPING HOPING that the Warspite will be offered again soon as well as I have seen a few in game and I WANT!!!!

As mentioned above this is not for someone looking for a pure simulation of the ships and their real life capabilities, they have modelled them while taking into account playability and it has been enjoyable.

When I started I couldn't wait to get into the Battleships and Aircraft Carriers and raced through the destroyers and cruisers but now I find myself playing with destroyers more and more and really enjoying the role.

My biggest advice to anyone trying this is, it is more fun with friends. You can only make divisions of three to play together at the moment but hopefully soon enough they will have fleet options. There is a mod that allows the use of "training rooms" where there are groups setting up battles but that is all set up through forums etc.

Sooo, in short, if you like blowing stuff up and can tolerate juvenile chat happening in the bottom corner you might enjoy.

I just found WoWs about a month ago, and thoroughly enjoy it. I missed this thread initially, and was going to open up one of my own, but thank goodness I searched first. I agree it is a great counterpoint to WitpAE, and would enjoy playing with any of y'all. My handle on WoWs is Hermit5000. I usually play on Saturday and Sunday mornings with another friend or two, with Skype. Feel free to add me to your contact list and give me a ring.

They were getting divorced a couple of years back. They live(d) in the area. Used to drive by their house on the way to town.

I´ve already met LoBaron in battle and seen Leo on the forum.

Anyone else playing? I´m having a blast with this game.

Currently have the NC, NO, Ranger and Mutsuki. Have enough XP for the Iowa but I´m 10 mil short on cash. Not sure I can be bothered with the grind.

I've been on awhile. I can't do too much or I burn out, but I probably get 3-4 fights a day in.

I'm on as ZadFnark.

Yeah, I'm kicking around the low teir IJN cruisers. Bit of a downgrade, had a Myoko prior to the game going live, need to work my way back up.

They boosted the Furutaka in a recent patch which is good news for anyone going up that tree.

I started playing about a week ago. Fun. I like the ability to play like there is no tomorrow. Anyway: question.
At night how do you aim? I do just fine during the day. At night the only hits I get are from secondary guns.
Suggestions please.

I just started playing a bit. I actually stick with the lower tiers for now. and DD torps all the way! Just lucky there is no ammo limitations :)

People sure don't know how to use ship tactics, too much world of tanks thinking maybe. Approaching a 95% win record after my losing the first 4 matches because I failed to learn how to fire my guns. silly me.

Honestly, i'm not interested in carriers, they should have a larger spread with lower tiers being WW1 and the higher tiers WW2. Ahwell. Like I said, I do enjoy the lower tier fights.
