Hi all,
just purchased this game and about to commnce first campaign, and about to start second battle ( I won't embarass myself by describing my first ignominous defeat NATO NS-AS A time to Dance. - how the hell do you stop/slow a T80U spearpoint before it overuns the objective hexes ? I guess I will have to search the forum for that, have some ideas involving smoke? sacrificing some units in order to set up a cross fire reverse slope ambush ?) Anyway back to main question regarding scenario CWG21 SCHOOL TEACHER (1/7)
1. The OB for the Panzer battalions appears to have the wrong subunit subordinations, e.g 2/151 the Panzer platoons are 1/2/15 through to 3/1/15 the Jaguar platoon is corrctly labelled as 4/1/151. This error is repeated across all the Panzer companies, I can follow the subordinations on the OB if i leave them as is but the "counter" labels are also wrong. Question - does everyone have this or am I lucky and have corrupted copy ? is there a simple way for me to correct this labelling error ?
2. Viewing the TOC - Under player missing briefing it lists the Units available but no mission briefing - am I looking in the right place - I can see objectives on the map , I can see I have reinforcements at some point arriving ?

Some help - guidance would be appreciated ?

As an aside I have compared the relevant MBT stats and can see the T80U "on paper" is a formidable beast,(manufacturing quality ?) can any one offer any guidance on wether or not the Soviets are penalised in readiness,(training, maintenance, commitment) morale and supply terms to reflect the non professional nature of their NCOS'S and private soldiers ?

Welcome aboard. Let me hit up your questions.

1). It's not a corrupt file. In order to parse formations from the scenario editor we had to take a generic approach to the naming conventions. You can can edit the scenario and rename the units as long as you use a unique name. This would be tougher in a campaign because you would need to replace scenarios in the campaign file. I can't remember being at work right now if a unit rename is possible in game.
2). I'll have Steve jump in on this one, but I don't believe campaign scenarios have a discreet briefing in the TOC panel.

Yes, the game has a number of modeled soft factors and technology factors that impact combat and command. That being said, the T-80U is a beast.

Hi,
I am impressed by this game,I have been a gamer since the 1980'S and a veteran of SPI games from from HWTR,Atlantic Wall and MECH WAR '77. What is truly impressive is the support evidence by your prompt reply and the huge community forum.
Thanks again for your prompt reply.

A Time To Dance is pretty finely balanced. It can be beaten though. Part of it is your acceptance for losses. As the US you won't come out of this one without a major fight.

1. I'll have to take a look at that. I'm trying to get the scenarios rebalanced and when we stop making code changes I should have them redone without too much fuss. I'll take a look at this while I'm in the editor.

Thanks.

2. The Campaigns don't allow us to insert briefings at the moment so it gives a very generic one.

Soviet units generally have lower readiness numbers reflecting a general state of less training than their NATO opponents. This doesn't hold true for all units. Soviet recon have high readiness and morale because they also have a high training and efficiency in actual fact.

Most units at this stage of the war all have high morale. In the first few days everybody thinks they are Superman.

Good Hunting.

When I first started playing Flashpoint Campaigns, I played NATO with a "give no quarter" mentality and subsequently got mauled. The game clicked for me when I took a more elastic approach. You can't trade the Warsaw Pact blow for blow, so you have to skirmish, fall back, stall for time, and hit from a distance.

Once you've blunted their assault, it becomes possible to counter-attack and retake those valuable hexes. It's never a clean victory, though. I have yet to play a game that doesn't end in bloodbath for both sides.

Yes. That's the lethality of the modern mechanized battlefield (and it's only gotten more deadly since the time frame of this game). I was an Army officer back then and the buzzwords were "If you can be seen you will be hit. If you are hit, you will be dead." That plays out quite accurately in game. In a toe-to-toe shootout everyone dies quickly.
