Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. Western Allies #4. Combat Reporter's Notebook. France.

Three good odd's Blitz attacks all of which produced modified rolls of 23, even with an unmodified roll of 9. It's hard to mess up attacks like these.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. Western Allies #4. Combat Reporter's Notebook. Italy.

Well, I guess there is a way to mess up a near sure attack. Roll a "2", which is exactly what the allied player did in the second attack which was a Blitz at +17. A "2", ahh ...

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. Western Allies #6. Combat Reporter's Notebook. Italy.

Well, the allies attack results in Italy on their next impulse softens a bit the "2" they rolled on the previous impulse in Italy.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. Western Allies #6. Combat Reporter's Notebook. CW Aligns Yugoslavia.

By the way it was this impulse in which the CW player was given the opportunity to align Yugoslavia. An opportunity which they gladly took.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. Western Allies #6. Combat Reporter's Notebook. Central France.

Paris surrounded. Most of the CW and USA units disorganized are reorganized by their respective HQ units. The Western Allies are ready to liberate Paris, push into Belgium and Holland and liberate them too. Everything is perfect ...

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Weather. Actions.

The allies lost the first roll for the initiative, requested a re-roll, won that one and went first. The allies were rewarded with fine weather across the globe, but specifically in the Arctic, North Temperate and the Med, where all the fighting is now. But to the allies disappointment, frustration, the weather in these three fighting zones deteriorated after the first impulse pair to rain and then to storms in the Arctic and North Temperate. Also, the allies were, again frustrated by the turn ending too soon. Well, it did end on a 40% chance this time, versus a 10% or 20% chance as in previous turns.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Targeting of German Oil.

Targeting of German oil was again a priority this turn, with most of that targeting occurring during the first allied impulse which was the only fine weather impulse the allies got this turn. The targeting was successful and destroyed 6 of 7 German oil points.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. The Eastern Front.

The Soviets did move this front toward the west this turn, especially in the north. A lot of this movement was made possible by the weakening of this front from Germany pulling units and moving them to the west.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Western Allies #1. Combat Reporter's Notebook. Surrender Attacks.

Well at least I fixed the die rolls right this time.

The CW wanted / needed the 4 saved oil points.

The USA wanted another victory location for the Western Allies.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. USSR #1. Eastern Front, North. Combat Reporter's Notebook.

This was suppose to be two attacks by the Soviets on the Eastern Front, north. However, as you can see I messed up and have in the second cap the USA land combat to take Lille.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Western Allies #1. Northern France. Combat Reporter's Notebook.

One near-sure attack (Paris) and one sure attack (Lille) see the allied player rolling a 2 for the first attack, followed by a 3 for the second. Another crummy "2", which allows Paris to hold out!

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Western Allies #1. Southern France, Northern Italy. Combat Reporter's Notebook.

Some more wonderful rolling by the allies, two "5's"! Fortunately, the first attack was automatic and the second, well it wasn't and cost the allies a unit destroyed a 3 more disorganized.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Western Allies #1. Rome. Combat Reporter's Notebook.

Well, a better but still below average roll. This attack was automatic so the roll didn't matter. Well, looking at it, it wasn't. A 2 would have resulted in a lost unit and half the surviving units being disorganized.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. USSR #3. Eastern Front, South. Combat Reporter's Notebook.

Even in the rain the Soviets continue to press the attack. Unlike the Western Allies, the Soviets roll well for these two attacks.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. USSR #3. Eastern Front, North. Combat Reporter's Notebook.

The Soviets continue to roll well for the first of the next two attacks. However, for the second of these two a below average roll stings them a little.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Western Allies #3. France, Belgium. Combat Reporter's Notebook.

The Western Allies also continue to press their attack on the Germans in the rain. The conduct three attacks and roll very well for all three attacks. One of which resulted in the liberation of Paris. And a second captured Brussels and resulted in the liberation of Belgium.

These attacks were the last land combat of the turn. There were no attacks by the Western Allies or the Soviets in the next allied impulse, #5 because of storms in the Arctic and North Temperate.
