I have found a few issues with the game although i like. I have run the first turn over 5 times and each time i get the same results for TF3 with it being severly damaged by the base at Cebu. I could understand the 15% CAP rate if the airbase on Cebu was the 1st turn target of the TF. Based on the number of aircraft at that base it would definetly have been identified as a dangerous target and would have hit that than the minor base on Mindinao. Primary target of the airforce is first to defeat the others airforce and gain airsuperiority. Secondly, if you activate the soviets then they Bomb in manchuria with impunity since there is no cap. Additionally, why is there no japanese first strike is this set up to represent a soviet response to the japanese attack all the while fighting the germans. I think that the japanese should have the airforce in manchuria activated to attack in russian too.

Focus Pacific is not balanced or designed for vs AI play, so some of these issues we will never be able to fix, due to them involving AI scripting which is outside of everyone's wheelhouse on this project I'm afraid.

However, I've increased the CAP on TF 3 so it's not such easy pickings for Cebu.

6 Japanese bomber squadrons are set to attack Vladivostok's port on turn 1, however, those groups don't often make the attack for some reason.

I've also switched many of the fighter units in Manchuria to escort/CAP instead of training, so at least on the first turn the Japanese will have a CAP up.

Added float plane groups:
PF Admiral Charner
PF DuMont D'Urville
PF E'Entrecasteaux
PF La Grandiene
PF Savorgnan
PF D'Iberville
AV Langley
AV Wright
AVP Valk
AVP Arend

Also added two French float plane groups at Tahiti, these can be split to accommodate other ships that need float plane groups as needed.

I toned down the AA on the French Duquesne class cruisers - as was pointed out, they had a BB sized AA suite instead of the correct AA upgrade for their class. The other French cruiser classes seem to have the correct AA upgrades.

Quick questions about installing this mod - particularly the bit in bold below

==========================================================
Installing Focus Pacific

1) Create a fresh and updated install of War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition in it's own folder in your Matrix games folder. I recommend renaming this folder to "Focus Pacific" for ease of use. Note that you must update to the newest version of WitP:AE before installing Focus Pacific.
==========================================================

a) does "newest version" mean latest official patch OR after installation of the latest beta patch
b) you don't mention here the extended map - does this mean your mod creates the extended map for you? (and chemkids map mod too)

many thanks for your help

Either the official version or the newest beta will both work, but i recommend upgrading the new WitP:AE install to the latest beta version before installing Focus Pacific.

The Focus Pacific installation installs both the extended map and Chemkid's Yamato Damashii map art.

Hope that helps!

Sorry for the delay on the next patch all - I'm waiting on two things:

*Creating a 1944 save of the game so that Patton and I can look over the 1944 OOB for any errors.

*New upgrade paths for Japanese planes. Currently, it's very possible to have end-game planes in 1943 as the Japanese player if they abuse the research system. Honestly, I *want* the Japanese player to abuse the research system a bit so that the allied player is faced with some of the more effective Japanese aircraft before the game is a foregone conclusion, but it needs to be better balanced than it's current iteration. Lowpe is currently working on this for us, but if you're a JFB and have some suggestions, please let us know.

Got another 'been meaning to mention' item.

I'm still playing an original release scenario so I wasn't sure if this had been fixed or if it is WAD, or if was coming from my using a stock extended map instead of ChemKid's map.

I set up another FP folder with everything up to date and started a new scenario with fist turn surprise off so I could quickly examine the map (ChemKid's map) and I'm still seeing the same results.

There are about a half dozen bases in northwest India that are missing. The map art has the base names but the bases are not there.

I'll take some screenshots tonight and post them tomorrow.

I also had a glitch show up in my original release scenario where the Indian 6th Division came in as a reinforcement in a spot that is not on the map.
It is located in the gray border near Abadan. I get an isolated and out of supply message every turn for it, but of course, there is nothing I can do.

It will show up in the screen shot I'll post tomorrow. This may have been found and fixed already in an update.

Hans, this sounds like a map panel/install thing. I know it's a pain, but try a fresh install of AE with the update and Michael's beta. Then do a fresh install of Focus Pacific....GP

Gotcha!

The fresh install is exactly what I did to a new FP2 folder as a test to see if it might be something that was fixed.

Can you look into where the 6th Indian Division is entering as a reinforcement?

I can attach a save game tomorrow if it will help.

The 6th Indian Division entering off-map was a bug that I believe was fixed a few versions ago.

I'll take a look at the Indian bases.

Are you talking about Quetta, Fort Sandeman, Jacobabao, Kohat and Peshawar? I don't think those bases exist in stock, either. I can certainly add bases to those hexes.

Yeah, north edge of India. Also the 6 6th Indian Division is an emergency reinforcement that, according to the editor, should be at Abadan. I checked it about 2 hours ago....GP

This speaks to the cobbled together nature of Focus Pacific. The issue with those bases is that the starting data point for Focus Pacific was Ironman, not an extended map scenario, but Focus Pacific uses the extended map. That's why they were never in present in Focus Pacific. Good catch Hans. Adding those bases is an easy fix that will be in the next patch.

This may be fixed already but the last upgrade of the King's Mountain (slot 975) Wpn slot 7 is set to 1504 7.5"Bl Mk VI instead of a 1540 20mm AA.
Thanks Daryl

Several small base forces at American held atolls withdraw in mid '42.

Caught me by surprise leaving me with no aviation support for my PBYs.

Can't recall them withdrawing in stock.

Is this WAD or an oversight.

The Americans don't really have any good substitutes as most of their base forces are too large for the atolls so it means sustaining the PBYs with AVs, AVPs or AVDs.

Hans, if you play with ground unit withdrawal on, the units that go bye bye in stock will do the same thing here. Usually para and I have played with that setting off. You are talking about Xmas, canton and Palmyra islands right? If so, that's the answer....GP

Yep, those are the ones, but I don't recall them ever withdrawing in stock.

That's what prompted me to ask if it was scenario specific.

Focus Pacific should always be played with unit withdrawal off. I did not change the withdrawal dates on any LCUs, so their withdrawal date is either from stock or an artifact from the Ironman scenario.

Hi

Having a look through your mod - fantastic work by the way - and have a few comments (though i am no expert so might just have missed stuff or be repeating what others have already said)

1) i couldn't see these any TFs for these ships ==> *The Dutch now have dedicated ASW patrols at Pelembang, Batavia and Soerejaba

2) probably not doable but any chance the soviet units colors could be more of a contrast to the jap units?

3) Victorias ship yard is 52 on the map but 53 in the patch notes

4) i couldn't see any YAK 1 on map - so assume they are just replacements you can swap in?

5) Should Shikuka have some sort of garrison?

thanks

Also

I see the A6M5b/c have been taken out of the stock DBB upgrade path and now upgrade from the Sen Baku - however they both have upgrade dates of 44/1 (why the same?) which is before the Sen Baku at 44/2 - is this intentional?

Para,
402nd BG, has Eastern US as its HQ. Should be V US Bomber Command. One of the squadrons ID's is 4430 to help locate the whole group. Also the group should start at 8 aircraft and upgrade to 12 in 8/42. At this time, short of looking at the last year of the war, I think we are just about there....GP

more upgrade questions

may be as intended but just in case.....

ki84a (44/5) > ki64 (45/3) (not the ki84b?)

ki64 (45/3) > ki84b (45/3) (should there be any upgrade from ki64?)

ki93-Ia (45/8) > ki94-II (46/2) (not the ki93-Ib?)

ki102a Tracker reports the upgrade as "fault"

and on production factories..

ki94 (2/46) has 15 out of 15 fully built factories - i don't know the math but does this mean it will be available a lot earlier?

ki100-II (8/45) has 15 out of 15 fully built factories - i don't know the math but does this mean it will be available a lot earlier?

Para, Here's another one. The upgrade paths for the British, NZ and Aussie Swordfish II needs to be made more consistant. I keep finding some errors with the upgrade paths, so this is what I propose;

Swordfish II >>> Avenger I 42/08 >>> Avenger II 43/08 >>> Avenger III 44/08.

And of course we have sanderz upgrade stuff above that needs going over. I haven't heard from Shark7 yet. I'll PM in a bit....GP

More comments

1) PLANE UPGRADES

I haven't looked at all the upgrades but these look like giving a LOT of scope for accelerating models. Having said that i am thinking in PDU ON terms.

Its a mod so may all be as intended, but heres my thoughts.

Having the SAM upgrading from the A6M8 is likely to be greatly abused to get the SAM very very early early

Same thing with the Kate > Jill > Grace upgrades

and maybe for Val > Judy as well

and Nell > Francis

and definitely Oscar to Frank/r

and maybe if you want jets early then ki45KAib Nick > Ki201 Karyu

and maybe the Sonia > Ki93 Ib

Ki36 > Ki67 Ib Peggy (why not the Ia?) also seems rushable

2) TRANSPORTS/ TANKERS etc
Your mod description goes into a lot of detail about the military ships - am curious if you made changes/additions to the transport fleets as there are a lot of extra resources to move around
