I'm in January '43 of a GC AI game, and I'm working my way through the USA and USMC squad upgrades. Does anyone have any good practices for staying on top of upgrades, making sure that new stuff is making it to your LCUs?

The only idea I have is to scan the Devices tab of Tracker every month, looking for devices that have just been introduced, and setting up to-dos to work through those. .... eesh. That may be too much micromanagement for me.

Devices inside units you will just have to do by manually checking...

However, for the TOE upgrades which unlock using these devices, you can load up the full ground unit list in-game ("G") and click "Show Soft" in the upper right corner of that window. Then sort by the "TOE" column. This column either has dashes (-) or numbers. The numbers are the delay in days until the TOE upgrades. Any that are at 0 are eligible for upgrade now.

Well, you can just leave upgrades on for all units and they will all eventually upgrade. However, this is not the most efficient. You do not need tracker to be efficient at this. Go to your intelligence screen and pick the bottom choice on the far right. "industry, troops, resources". Here you find every squad and device that is produced in the game listed in order of appearance. You have filters there so you can pull up different types and nationalities. Look them over. Some items you will never need to stockpile such as support and most US stuff. You get plenty. Other rare items you should change to stockpile. Then at the beginning of each month look at your new devices coming on line for that month and decide which ones you should release and which ones you need to stockpile. Initially until you build up your pools you will want to stockpile most all types of squads and devices.

Here is how I typically do it. I try to keep some spare battalions in the home country capital where I can disband units. I turn off all replacements for every unit in that nationality. I accumulate enough squads until I have the 27 to 32 needed to upgrade a battalion. Upgrade it and then immediately disband. You then have enough squads to upgrade two more battalions. Do so and then disband. You now have enough squads to upgrade regiments and brigades. Divisions can now be broken down and upgraded one regiment at at time. Do your divisions one unit at at time. Disband one or two regiments if you want a bigger pool and faster upgrading of your divisions. Just remember once you have a regiments worth of squads you can turn any unit with a full TOE on to upgrade and not lose any squads in your pool. I get the divisions done and then just turn all smaller units on and let them have at it. Only issue is to keep an eye on your devices. You may have to turn some off if there are not devices to fill out an entire division as it will not recombine until you do. Remember, you do not lose squads in you pool when you upgrade but you "do" lose devices-so be careful about devices. US Army and Marines are very easy to upgrade-just watch the 57mm AT gun. Commonwealth units are another story. You have to be very careful with them.

crsutton has it for the allies.

if you ever start playing the IJ, you need to be very selective. most devices cost HI to be built and then all devices require supply to be upgraded or reinforced. because of this, as the IJ you have to be very selective of what devices in which units you upgrade. Depending upon the units mission, I may upgrade/reinforce none, some, or all of its devices.
