Check out this classic first-turn encirclement by Perif on Western Front.

Quite pretty, but I suspect Pwrif is pretty new to WiTE, but we've all had to learn the hard way. Far too small an area pocketed, and too few units in it. It also looks as if it can be broken on the SE side.

It takes a lot of practice to get T1 (and the other crucial early turns) right, but studying AARs is time well spent.

I believe if you canvas veterans of the Soviet side they'd be 100% in favor of taking that pocket as opposed to something else a GHC player can deliver their way.

Agree with Sillyflower that the pocket doesn't look to be hermetically sealed for long and even if it were I'd be glad if that's all a Field Marshall could muster on turn one in AGC.

AGN units should take Riga and breech the Daugava at numerous spots, AGC should have a sealed pocket stretching out to Minsk. I don't take Brest Litovsk the first turn and send some AGC units south and still have a big pocket in the central. In AGS anything short of a Lvov mega pocket with Rovno and Proskurov also in the fold on turn one is falling behind.

If I had opened a turn and had been faced with that opening turn, the first thing I would have done would be to offer my opponent a do over. Although it is very pretty the pocket could be opened and the advance is not nearly far enough, you should look at some AAR's, Pelton is a good source of information and Sillyflower has a current AAR which is definitely worth looking at.

To be honest that's not bad for a new person.

We are all Monday morning quarter backs here now.

You should have seen the crappy opennings the first 6 months after release.

By those standards that's an amazing opening.

I have to disagree Pelton. I feel you're looking at things in a vacuum.
Considering the image was referred to as "classic first turn encirclement" I don't see anything wrong with refuting it.
Taking into account other new players may be reading it as well.

All rebuttals were respectful.

Hope you're having a great holiday season!!

+1

And written to help the less experienced to improve their game
