I am really not sure there is a unhistorical aspect to this, at least within the likely advantageous limits a player would use. Unless you single mindedly cross attach for the sake of it, you are unlikely to do anything outside of likely possibilities. It is not as if you need to, or it gives an advantage... I once raised the issue of corps attachments on the fly (attack as part of one corps, move a little, swap corps and attach as part of another, all in one turn, and possible in bulk). Much less realistic, and too flexible IMHO.
