Quite a few Allied units can combine at the start of the GC. Especially a lot of Aussie units. Is it a good idea? Or is it better to attempt this later?

2nd Question Is it cheaper PP wise to buy each unit prior to combining or buy the division after?

already moving the PI units to combine at Clark, and shipped the Aussie unit in Karachi to Aden to await the rest of its division.

If the unit is under strength, it is cheaper to buy it out before it builds up. If it's already at strength, there is no advantage to buying it out.

Small units are useful for taking undefended or lightly defended locations, but larger units are more robust in a major fight. Combining or not combining depends on what you plan to do with them. If you want to garrison a base where you expect a serious Japanese threat like Port Morseby, or you are assaulting a heavily defended base, a division will hang in the fight longer than 3 broken down regiments.

wdolson's advice is right on the money.

Only thing I want to add is that if you are still filling out the unit and you have all the regiments in one place, they will fill out faster if you leave them uncombined.
E.G. all the regiments need support and mobile support squads and the large base they are in has lots of supply: the AI is distributing support and mobile support squads from the pools. The AI looks at the demand from all locations and distributes according to a number of factors, but tries to give each unit some squads. Combined into a division, the three regiments count as one unit and get one allocation; separately the three regiments each get an allocation.

Cool noted. Thank you. Does anyone have a good rule of thumb as to which Div SHOULD be built? I was trying to figure out if I should leave the RAN, and RAAF units in Oz separate for now and see how the war develops for my game, or use them to create Ports and Airbase support as a Div.

I would assume the USMC units would make a better div as well. I will look at each and see where it stands strength wise before combining. Also I will buy out the divs before combining.

OT. Is there a way I don't get a 7 day ban after my 10th post. Its getting frustrating when I can not reply.

Also I will buy out the divs before combining.

I recall HQ of the combined div is predetermined and can be seen in the component screen. So if it happens to be restricted there is no use buying out components, you will only waste PPs.
Changing HQs of components is needed sometimes - when they do not coincide initially, since combining can only be done with components under identical HQs

One other thing not mentioned, but that you may or may not be aware of is components of a division will not recombine if the devices don't match among the units. It's best to have upgrades set to off for all the components of a division until it combines. For example, if two out of three regiments have upgraded to the 25lb field gun, but one still has 18lb field guns, you can't combine the division until it also upgrades to the 25lb field gun. Just something to remember.

In short, all units that you can combine into division-you should. Divisions are better in most situations and if you need a smaller unit you can break it down later. However there are always some exceptions. For example it helps to build up your upgraded squad pools if you keep a few battalion sized units on hand. But but the most part my aim is to create divisions, even to the point of disbanding independent Australian and Indian brigades to keep feeding squads and devices into the divisions.

Is there a reason to combine some of the air units that can combine?

Thanks
