Actually I think General Patton would be the best one to seek advice from on that one.

Ordering his Chaplain to pray for clear weather during the Battle of the Bulge seemed to work just fine.

El Lobo's War Mongrels are applying intense pressure at four locations of the furthest perimeter for the defense of Chungking.

Yes, I was happy about the Torpedo Bomber results.

I plan to stuff Ceylon with fighter escorts and medium level bombers and have recon over Trincomalee to pound the Japanese troops there as long as possible before El Lobo takes all of Ceylon.

I have requested from the European Theater to send me Ike to give sunny days to the Allied airforces on Ceylon. Haven't heard back yet.

The U. S. Army 32nd Infantry Division arrived unscathed at Bombay today. Unfortunately, though fighters were ordered to escort the bombers, the Blenheims on Ceylon did not fair well. With the arrival of the 32nd Division, among other U. S. troops, the U. S. Army now has five full infantry divisions in India. Otherwise, a fairly slow day.

Brief Update on U.S. Army Ground Forces in India

as of June 23, 1942

U.S. Army Ground Forces in India

Among other U. S. Army Forces already in India:

The 32nd Infantry Division is unloading at Bombay and will take the train to Bangalore; the 40th Infantry Division is at Hyderabad; the 24th Infantry Division is at Warangal; the 25th Infantry Division is at Raipur; and the Americal Division is at Ranchi.

**The 27th and 40th Infantry Divisions are at Cape Town. The Allies will have sufficient Political Points to buy out the 40th Infantry Division during the first week of July. The 40th will ship to India. And then, another long wait to have sufficient Political Points to buy out the 27th for shipment to India.

The 159th Motorized Infantry Regiment is on the train from Hyderabad to Bangalore; the 762nd Tank Battalion is on the train from Cochin to Hyderabad; the 763rd Tank Battalion is at Warrangl; the 193rd Tank Battalion is at Raipur; and the 754th Tank Battalion is at Raipur.

Question Number One: Halsey and Nimitz

To date, I have not paid political points to buy out Halsey nor Nimitz.

I intend to pay political points for both of them prior to the end of the month.

Your recommendation(s) as to where to buy them out would be greatly appreciated.

Question Number Two: Pulverizing Guam

At least four Japanese Carriers (the Soryu, Hiryu, Shokaku, and Zuikaku are presently off the Coast of Ceylon.

The Allies presently have seven carriers (the Enterprise, the Yorktown, the Wasp, the Hornet, the Long Island, the Saratoga, and the Lexington) at San Francisco.

The Saratoga and Lexington are refitting and will be fit for sea in eight days.

I am considering, on July 1, 1942, sending all the Allied Carriers with massive Surface Combat Fleets to pulverize Guam.

With at least four Japanese Carriers off the Coast of Ceylon, do you think now would be a relatively good time to trash Guam?

I would like to give El Lobo cause for concern and I would like to give the Carrier and Combat Surface Fleets some experience.

If KB farting around in IO better to burn down Sapporo than waste bombs on Guam. There isn't going to be anything there worth the effort....unless part of an invasion. Failing that the only other targets worth a raid that big would be Kwajalein or Truk.

I will put Sapporo (on Hokkaido), Kwajalein (Marshall Islands), and Truk on the list with Guam to consider for a massive Allied Bombardment.

I understand why Sopporo (engine factories) and Truk (logistics hub) are worth a raid. Why Kwajalein?

Also, could you please make a recommendation as to Halsey and Nimitz?

You need to account for all the other IJN Carriers. Akagi and Kaga are likely just finishing upgrades and will be available before you launch your strike. Junyo and maybe Hiyo too will have joined their fleet. Then there are the CVLs and CVEs (not sure if any have been sunk) which might be in a MKB operating with the other CVs.

Typically, Truk is central position for the IJN to keep these Carriers when they are not supporting an operation. A raid on Guam or the Marianas is going deep into the pocket formed by Japan, The Marianas and Truk. You might get lucky and sneak past his subs. He might not have set out picket ships. Weather might shield you from naval search, and there might be a worthwhile target ... but that is a lot of mights! Balance that against the single might - you might lose one or more of your carriers doing something that is not really effective for the war effort.

Hitting Sapporo engine factories slows his aircraft production, and hitting the oil would hurt his long-term economy a little.
Kwajalein is usually the only level 5 port in the Marshalls ( unless Eniwetok is also built) so it is often the main anchorage for IJN raider groups, subs and amphib ships. It is closer to the front lines so chances are better of finding warships there than at Guam or Saipan.

Truk is also a main fleet base, but it is also in a pocket with other IJA bases behind the line of approach.

As for the Admirals, I like to use them as historical to make best use of their stats.

The gentleman from the coldest place in Canada rounds out my answer. I will say however that you are unlikely to ID all CVS before you choose to act. If you wait for that you will never act. Frankly, if just several big boys came out to find 7xCVS you are likely to give him a bloody nose. Make sure you have scouted whatever location and make sure your planes are upgraded ie. no Buffaloes nor Devastators. It would also be nice to have a handle on where his LBA/torp planes are. You will never know where they all are but if he has large concentrations in IO I would strike.

The one critical factor about KB from about mid-42 on is that the Japanese player gets a bigger advantage by not using it; not knowing where it is shuts more doors for prudent allied players than knowing where it is and being kicked around a little.

You are correct that intel will never be perfect and you need to go active sometime. I was not saying do not come out to play, I was pointing out that some playgrounds are too dangerous to use and the game might be disappointing, while other playgrounds are closer to home and might be fun.

Re: a CV sortie, you need a good set of CV TFs with at least CA escorts and lots of DDs.
Then you need a SCTF to block any intercept by the enemy SCTFs.
You need picket DDs operating at least � a day ahead of the CVs to trigger any enemy aircraft set on Naval Attack. This is the best way to confirm presence of enemy CVs.
And if you can spare any more DDs an ASW TF is also good to have.
And finally, a day or two back from your CVs you need some AOs to refuel them since they will likely do a high speed run to the target and a high speed withdrawal.

Not sure why the Allied Bombers didn't inflict any ground damage? The Bombers were set to "Ground Attack" at 1,000 feet with range of 4 (within normal flight range). Make sure you have scouted whatever location and make sure your planes are upgraded ie. no Buffaloes nor Devastators. It would also be nice to have a handle on where his LBA/torp planes are. You will never know where they all are but if he has large concentrations in IO I would strike.

The one critical factor about KB from about mid-42 on is that the Japanese player gets a bigger advantage by not using it; not knowing where it is shuts more doors for prudent allied players than knowing where it is and being kicked around a little.

Pretty sure there are lots of Devastators on the carriers. I will take a close look at each carrier and upgrade as possible.

Pending Allied Surface Task Forces' Raid

I think the time is right to give El Lobo a headache.

Four Japanese Carriers are off the Coast of Ceylon. As BBfanboy and pontiouspilot sagely point out, the Allies might be waiting forever for reliable 100% intelligence. Allied ships and pilots need experience.

The four raid locations on the list and based on my priority of my fear factor are as follows:

Sopporo
Truk
Guam
Kwajelein

If any member of The War College would like to suggest an additional location(s), please advise.

Further, if any member of The War College has additional advice regarding the RAID, please advise.

The Allied Picket and Raid Task Forces will leave San Francisco prior to or on July 15, 1942.

Route to destination and the destination to be determined and submitted to The War College no later than June 30, 1942.

This should be fun Saddle Pals...Remember the Boisie!

BBBoy makes good suggestions...esp about the replenishment needs for full-speed retreat. If you are looking at Hokkaido you have some long-legged PGs in Alaska. I send them to snoop around for about 2 weeks before. If you want to be greedy hit Sapporro with the CVs and the north-eastern port (name escapes me) with BB bombardment. Just remember that the latter will need to be covered on their slow retreat out. I doubt there would be any subs covering Home Isls. I doubt he has laid any port mines yet but you may send in some mine-sweepers with BBs....I wouldn't bother, but I will hit 17 sometimes!!

From the combat summaries I have seen he seems heavily invested in IO. Tell me the CVs and BBs you have Ided there???

Both you and BBfanboy have given me excellent advice as wells as Hans Bolter.

I have built up the Aleutian Islands (most ports are 3 or above except for Attu which is close to a 3). I am seriously considering sending all PGs and YMS to the Aleutian Islands to harass Japanese ships around the Kurile Islands.

Yes, El Lobo has invested heavily in the IO (he is making it quite clear that he wants Ceylon). All of his fastest carriers are in the IO. That should help with the impending raid for either Sopporo, Guam, Truk, or Kwajalein.

I have seen the Atago class CAs take four torpedoes and manage to limp into a nearby port, but I have also seen a few sink with three torp hits. It all depends on the die rolls. I give it 60% chance of actually being sunk.
If you check for "Ground" losses of Japanese float planes in the Intel Report, Aircraft Losses section and see at least 2 FPs lost, that should confirm the sinking.
