I reckon he watches the replay, then calmly prepares a brew (tea/coffee/whatever). Whilst its being made, he's screaming "AAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, WHY DO THE DICE GODS HATE ME????????????".

Then he gets his brew, sighs, smiles and cheerfully updates his AAR, maybe with some mood mellowing music in the background.

Jocke has the whole turn now. I have a busy day, and won't be able to look at the next turn for 24 hours or so, told Jocke to keep it that long.

Thanks, Michael, I had that song (and then the ones that autoplayed) on while I did my turn. Somebody sang a nice version of Its a Wonderful World...

Taking a pretty big calculated risk this turn. It is a pretty big one.

Lowpe-

Great fight in India you and Joc are having.

Both of you write wonderfully and informatively and make your AARs really fun to follow.

Best Regards,

-Terry

I envy you Lowpe. How you do it and never seem to get frustrated is admirable. As always, your AAR's are a pleasure to read.

I try to emulate Obvert's even keel.

Heck,we are Japan. We are supposed to be tripped up, kicked when we are down, and then run over by a car, hit by bus, bounced by a truck onto the railroads, run over by a speeding locomotive and pitched into a conveyor belt at a sawmill.

Right.

It is a pretty funny fight, to tell the truth. I did something really daring there today. Probably really shot myself in the foot.

I put 300 fighters in Dacca, hoping to shred the Allied Fighter/Bomber strength in India. However, Allies don't oblige and it is a day of rest there. Some Japanese bombers hit his troops in Dacca, but the altitude is so high there is basically no effect.

But, over in Coal Harbor, the Allies come again. It is almost a perfect day as we shred all but three sweeps. The Airacobra sweep, a P40 sweep and a F4F sweep at then end of the day manage to get thru. But all those other squadrons are denied.

Think of the Allied pilot losses.

I included a picture of the Warhawks diving on the Zeroes....it is important to note that no Zero patrolled at over 10K.

I think the results speak for themselves.

OK, yes, pilot losses hurt in the short to medium term for him. But he gets so many groups coming in later with 55 or 70 Exp that it won't matter. The only pilots I've felt a need to shepherd carefully in my Allied games are my CV pilots, which means I also need good British pools and in some cases Australian/New Zealand/Canadian - depending on the FAA unit that I can/want to use on the CVs.

USAAF? You get so many, and the opportunity is there to train more either via backwater missions or 100% training...

Lok, My one and only goal in this game is to give Jocke angina. And in the last two days I think I have.

Surely you are not aiming that low. You have a base for a much greater achievement.

Allies attack again. I can't complain.

I am in position to bombard Diamond Harbor today. Then will try for Calcutta tomorrow, but hopefully the threat of it might cause him to pull back his air. He has no supporting airfields in the region that are close.

I have significant reserves below Dacca.

Supplies unloading at Chitt, more on the way. Goofy supply logistics here despite the railroad.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well with that area.

It will sort itself out though, but it does take a bit of time

We are hitting Diamond Harbor hard this turn.

Recon for several days has only 1 unit there, the static CD unit. It is being bombed, bombarded, and strafed. With a little luck, an no heavy CAP, the unit will be in tatters tomorrow.

Calcutta probably has several hundred mines, and some British patrol boats, but I will be in position to bombard the city if everything goes okay.

I would rather he vacates his air force, as I really don't want to bombard there.

Kwieyang gets a deliberate attack today, only 2 Chinese corp are there, I don't think the city will hold for long. I would really like the industry. Tomorrow, another Sian attack which I expect will go very well.

I am in the process of shipping out 200,000 plus supplies, in addition to many troops and support troops. Wowsa!

Early September.

Allies pushing hard in India. Bombing locates the 1st Marine Division. That is at least two US Divisions here...

Disappointed to see no naval bombardment of Diamond Harbor, I didn't put the TF on absolute/direct. Plus bad weather socks in all flights over Diamond Harbor. A sweep to the NE of Calcutta revealed no bleeding CAP...as the Allies have 200+ fighters in Calcutta.

Chinese abandon the town, we route a previously routed Chinese Corp and immediately start to cross the river.

1.  It is really only a railway between Chittagong and Comilla.

2.  Remind me of the anticipated benefit gained from a naval bombardment of Diamond Harbor.

1. Correct...past Comilla the towns get hard coded daily supply.

2. Nothing anymore with the force Jocke is bringing to bear and my retreat out of Dacca. Originally, I wanted Jocke to vacate his air force from Calcutta ...not the least I was worried about an air drop but I have my bases covered better now.

In my game, I had 4 x IJN HC bombarding Calcutta every turn for a month from Diamond Harbour to help me taking it. Started a ton of fires but it was only the last couple of bombardments that did any real damage to his units as my land attack slowly battered down his forts.

The Allies attack at Dacca, and my troops are starting to suffer. Only 11 more miles and I am out of the hex. Perhaps today. But Jocke has really thrown the troops into India, and that is a good thing.

Preparations for the west continue apace, all the while Jocke is aggressively pushing forward in both India and the lower lower Solomons. Perhaps the fish in the CV will slow him some, but I don't really care one way or the other.

I am upgrading the CVs, except for Shokaku and her sister which are already done.

I like the fact that Jocke is being aggressive.

I have started my deception plans pretty heavily now, and I fully expect a rocky few months depending upon Jocke's aggressiveness. We shall see.

I am churning out quality pilots, shipping supplies and troops, saving PP.

My watchword is Focus on the big goal. Focus.

Oops, forgot to mention I captured Kweiyang mostly intact...8 damaged LI only. I am flying in construction squads and aviation support.

I am a little disappointed I got the town on the first attack, as I planned to have all the tanks in reserve pursuit mode and get across the river with strong forces to help with the upcoming shock attack as the infantry and artillery catch up.

Oh well.

I could shock across with nothing but tanks, but instead I am going with the entire spearhead. I am sure my losses will be heavier, but it feels less gamey. Well, using all the armor and artillery is pretty gamey I guess, but I am using much less artillery in this game as I need the PP to buy out divisions for the west coast.

In October, we will get several interesting planes.

The Tojo IIb. Big, inaccurate cannons, but several more squadrons can fly this plane. Very important as there are only two squadrons flying the IIa. Production will be at 90 a month.

Tony Ki61a: Only two squadrons fly this plane, and it will be relegated to rear area defense of oil. Harbin has been chosen to manufacture this plane, as later versions top out around 400mph with cl cannons and around 10+ squadrons flying them. Research will move on to the B model, while there is already a research factory working on the D and 100-I models which were started by Olorin -- a very rare mistake as all four factories could be repaired and working on r&d if he had started with the 61-a model. Still, the 61-a is armored and will be another improvement over Nates. It will be a while before the 61b arrives (normally 9/43). Each successive version of the Tony unlocks more squadrons.

Judy: Enough said!

In November:

The Oscar IIIa; the A6M5b arrive.
The Lilly IIb divebomber arrives. Lots of squadrons can convert to her.

Jocke informs me there is another attack at Dacca today...did I escape in time?

Here we are at Sian. Only 120 AV away from a 2-1.

First week of September...

Pretty good for early in the war, caught in shallows!

That is an ARM out to the north and west.
