I`m very interested.
But I`m a bit confused which units will be released. As I see it this whole mod only makes sense if every vanilla unit is covered.

But I`m a bit confused which units will be released.

If by units you mean new unit graphics, then the answer is none. I can`t include any new graphics in a patch unless I have permission to do so and as far as I understand it H.Balck doesn`t want his newer graphics to be used in any mod here anymore. So that`s that.

What I could release is an update that makes the mod fully compatible with the current version of the game (v1.25).

In more details: the latest PzC patch adds a whole bunch of units, many of which we already have in the mod, but with different stats and different internal IDs, because the mod came before the official expansion. The problem is that any scenario (all of those of the Soviet Corps expansion for example) using this official patch will have the units designated according to their internal IDs. So, in any such scenario, if you use the equipment file of the mod, the new units introduced for Soviet Corps will simple disappear from maps made with the official equipment file. In addition, the new units from the official content will probably have different stats to their correspondents from the mod and could affect the balance of scenarios using them. The PzC developers have also adjusted a few other values as far as I can see. So, basically, the update I was proposing would merge things so that there are no more conflicts.

quote:

As I see it this whole mod only makes sense if every vanilla unit is covered.

Replacing every vanilla unit is what I consider the base requirement too. It simply did not happen. Still, there aren`t that many units that have the vanilla graphics. Just a few Finnish and soviet units(no more than a dozen I would guess) that were added for Soviet Corps, the captured units of the British and most captured units of the Germans. The captured units are mostly tanks and recons and I don`t think they`re that obvious in game. Where things are uglier is that most elite units (of all factions) don`t have specific graphics and end up looking the same to the regular units (i.e. the SE Bren Carrier is identical to the regular Bren Carrier etc.). Also, some of the Italian units only have desert uniforms and you`ll see them in shorts during the Russian winter. In the other direction, most German units and a large proportion of the British do not have a desert camo so you`ll see them in grey and green in African scenarios. That`s about it. Once I integrate everything I could make a more detailed list of exactly which units are still using the vanilla graphics (just so that I can tell people reporting them as bugs that they are mentioned in the readme file :D )

Is there interest in an update that would make the mod compatible with the latest Panzer Corps patch?

As many of you may know, the latest PzC expansion is enabled by a patch (v1.25) which adds the new factions (Finland and Japan) and several units, among other things. The mod contains several units and other features that have different IDs in the newest PzC patch. This would result in conflicts if you install the mod after the v1.25 patch and try to play the official content. If I find time to implement this for my own use I may consider releasing it if people want that.

The proposed update would only contain the text files and will have several graphical limitations. H.Balck has not covered all the units that have been introduced with v1.25 and even those graphics that he released recently would not be included because he has already announced that he restricts their use to his personal projects. So for example, the Finnish Ski infantry will look just like the regular Finnish Infantry and so on.

quote:

I've long since how not to play vanilla

The mod simply changes the unit graphics and adds more entries for new units. Weather you use it to play the PzC vanilla content or something else is entirely up to you. Niki`s Allied General and Panzer General campaigns that are available at Slitherine, among other mods, are fully compatible with it. I`ve used the mod to play my custom made scenarios for example. Nobody stops you to make new scenarios to suit your taste. At the same time, the fact that we lack the content necessary for the vanilla scenarios (like the graphics for some of the Finnish units or the desert camo for all factions) also means that anyone wanting to make a custom scenario will have troubles depicting such a battle too.

I think that it's a great idea!

Sure I meant unit graphics.
I`m not absolutely sure what`s the difference between the graphics in this mod and the newer graphics which will be kept private.

You mean which of the graphics posted after the release of the mod is meant to be private and which is public? I`m not sure either. Which is why I won`t add any graphics whatsoever.

A 1.25 update for the mod is a great idea.

I understand that you can use all the units that have been posted on the forum (workpiece units of the new generation - were not post on the forum)

Thanks! I don`t know how to distinguish the units of the "new generation" from the ones of the "older generation", but the meaning of that quote seems to be that everything uploaded in this thread is part of the older generation and can be used.

Now, here`s a list of units released with PzC v1.25 that I can`t find graphics for:

Soviet units:

T-34-57
KV-2_ATY
IS-3
AT-1
SU-6
Autocar Halftrack

American units:

US_Panther_D
US_Panther_G
US_SdKfz_234-1_8Rad
US_SdKfz_234-2_8Rad
US_SdKfz_251-1
US_SdKfz_250-1

Does anyone recognize any of them as having been completed and released previously here? Also, very importantly, does anyone know what the Autocar Halftrack is supposed to represent? It`s not the same with the M3 Halftrack (which also exists in game) and I don`t know what to replace it with. If someone has any suggestions it would be great.

Thank you! So, basically it`s an unarmoured version of the M3 Halftrack. Unless someone knows otherwise, this unit hasn`t been uploaded so far and will have to remain vanilla.

@Brazenman what graphics would you say are more appropriate for the new SE Guards Cavalry? The current Soviet Cavalry or the Cossack Cavalry?

I wrote to him about it. But unfortunately H.Balck did not change his opinion. This is new generation units and, therefore, these units can not be used for other mods.

Sorry, but I can not help you. I have no right to post these units on the forum.

R-35
I so understand that the developers did not possess historical information.

Guard - this honorary title for the most distinguished parts.
As part of the Red Army were:
Rifle Division and Guards Rifle Divisions
Motorized Rifle Divisions and Guards Motorized Rifle Divisions
Cavalry Division and Guards Cavalry Division
Cossack Cavalry Division and Guards Cossack Cavalry Division
Armored Brigades and Guards Armored Brigades
Artillery Regiments and Guards Artillery Regiments
Aviation Divisions and Guards Aviation Divisions
Mountain Divisions and Guards Mountain Divisions
Motorcycle Regiments and Guards Motorcycle Regiments
Mortar Regiments and Guards Mortar Regiments
and so on

They had to duplicate the whole range of units of the Red Army
Or just do not do special units for Guards.

I've checked almost all the units of the mod for SC and IMHO graphics for two units from R35's list are already in the mod:

SU-11 is ZSU-37 and
37 PstK/36 is 37mm_wz_36 (in Polish units)

Thanks alot! That`s a very good find. I will adjust the entry and I think I`ll keep the name as ZSU-37, given that the SU-11 was just a prototype.

quote:

Well, yes, the Finnish 40 ItK/36 and 37 PstK/36 are local designations of the commonly available Bofors anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns. Poland, among other factions is also using them. The problem is that H.Balck`s graphics contain the crew and I think the Polish uniform looks nothing like the Finnish one. Editing the graphics would be no big deal for anyone with basic 2d skills, but H.Balck does not allow that in a public mod (among other things).

Btw, has the soviet mountain transport (with mules) ever been released? I have two soviet mountain guns, but with no specific transport I don`t think it`s worth the effort to add them.

EDIT: also, we have a Siberian Infantry apparently. Sibirian Divisions of the Red Army were formed from the Siberian and Turkic peoples of Asia. All Siberians were hereditary hunters, they were stalwart and hardy soldiers. Siberians are well oriented themselves on the ground. These guys have had a completely different mentality, they are not accustomed to retreat.

According to a number of Soviet military leaders (such as Rokossovsky) - Soviet troops in Siberia and the Far East were best prepared (than the troops in the western and central districts) for combat operations.

Eight fresh Siberian divisions perfectly proved in the counteroffensive at Moscow in winter 1941.

But I think that this unit should not be available for hire. This elite unit.
This improved version of the regular infantry. Just as the border guards were an improved version of NKVD troops.

Yeah, but that`s like saying units recruited from Moscow should be better at urban combat. You can have the same argument about the highlanders being better prepared for military life than the people from the London region and so on. In my opinion, if a unit is not equipped and/or trained radically differently form the other units in the same class, than it`s not a special case, no matter from which manpool it takes its soldiers. Otherwise, all nations should have such a thing.

Anyway, I`ll add it as a bonus unit so people have a graphical extra when playing campaigns and will see in what way it can be distinguished in terms of unit stats.

Btw, how has Karaganov implemented the Mountain cavalry in his mod? Alpine movement and 5 hex movement?
