A while back I had a thread going on getting AE Players together. Who lives in Colorado? I know that there is a decent number of us. Would it be worthwhile to plan a gathering?

I spend a little bit of time every year in Telluride. Hoping to get back there this summer to do some backpacking.

I do. I keep coming by to vandalize that caboose, but some vicious chihuahua keeps chasing me off.

Made it there once from Florida, would love to go again, but not in the cards for the immediate future.

I attended a wind tunnel test for a condo tower I was designing. The facility is run by the University located in Fort Collins (forget the name).

I was there for three days and had one afternoon for sightseeing. Everyone told me I should visit Estes Park.

It was an incredible and awe inspiring experience for this flatlander.

My astronomy club used to have a dark sky site on Hickory Hill, one of the ten highest hills in Florida at a whopping elevation of 280 feet.

Standing in a mountain valley with peaks soaring in every direction I looked was an almost spiritual experience.

I think getting together would be fun. I would have to speak with Mrs. Cochran but am sure we could dial up the backyard (and caboose for Lecivius), BBQ, and bunches of game chatter.

We could also look at something more formal somewhere in Denver as well. Am wide open.

I've lived my entire life near mountains, except one summer when I worked in Milwaukee, WI. It was very weird not being able to see mountains on a clear day. I've never been to Colorado, but I have been over 6000 ft on Mt Rainier and Mt Hood. The road on Mt Hood goes to a ski area there at 6000 ft that is the only ski area in the continental US open 365 days a year (except for the occasional bad drought year).

I know more people live in the eastern US (which has older, lower mountains or is flatter) than western US, but I couldn't imagine living anywhere that flat.

Bill: I line ON THE PLAINS and we are at 5,000 Ft! Can clearly see the mountains from the house. We're buying five acres SE of here and the view is spectacular.

Really like the idea of a get together later in the Spring. May or June is always pleasant. Want to do something before the mosquitoes get rolling though...

I had one of the best beers and steaks ever in Colorado.

Can't for the life of me remember the town, but it was somewhere near Mesa Verde National Park.

Durango is about an hour away from Verde. So is Cortez. There are a few places closer, right along side the highway. One horse town kinda places.

If we do this I'll get the steaks. I know a guy

For that matter, if everyone is OK with beer, I can do a keg. I know a guy

John lives right across the street from the city park. Perfect spot for a picnic. All we have to do is bribe the local cops...

It was defo a one horse kinda town, but we walked into what looked like a pretty basic restaurant that opened up into a massive garden, complete with tables and chairs, all shaded and really quiet.

The beer sounded German, began with "S".

To be fair, it was about eight years ago, and we were pretty knacked by then having done the Rockies from South Dakota and finishing at Vegas.

Schneider Weisse? Spaten ( the one with the spade/shovel on the label)?

Found a security cam pic of your waitress bringing your order ....

This looks pretty positive. I am going to review the calendar and throw out a weekend or two. We know the first two weeks of JUne is bad so, perhaps, we target May.
