Both predictions were wrong!

I am not surprised by Tokunoshima to be honest. I expected that at least another attack would be necessary. But Naha, meh. Not even a fort reduction. You have to use a bigger stick!

At least Batavia has been retaken. guess it won't be long before poor Singapore starts getting bombarded.

No, not too long now for Singapore. I want the very first strike to be a surprise, which means it will have to be launched before Batavia airfield is fully built out, and before Allied ground forces are too close to Singapore. It will be a port strike with all the 4EB that can be stuffed into Batavia at whatever size it is then.

Naha - I guess it just still needs all the naval bombardments it can get, plus good die rolls. Not sure how many days they will need to rest this time. But after tomorrow there will be 2x old BB bombardments each day plus the cruisers. The Iowas will be thrown in at least once during the troops' recovery.

Some of the heavy cruisers that have been bombarding are in dire need of yard time. I wonder when Hong Kong will be available?

Hmmmm .. I'm not sure a bigger stick is needed as much as a steady attack. At some point we are going to see the (-) Supply and at that point no squads are recovering .. its all downhill from there
The Allies keep the supply up .. the IJ burn it up .. simple formula

I am rather impressed at Witpqs attention to resting units on Naha and bringing them into combat as disruption reaches a point
The detailed management is going to be a huge factor in the end in my opinion ...

Well, this time around they rested too long, meaning that the defenders got too much of a break. But with so many more ammo ships in place at Daito Shoto now, that should change.

Supply I am not so sure about. At this place I suspect DAW HQ brought in enough supply to use as barricades, the idea being to force us to overcome the defenders because starving them to weaken them would take too long.

The armor is making way to cross into Wuchow at once. There are 23,000 troops there, but only 9,000 were there before the two Bdes crossed from the forest, and both have been retreated including one of them twice.

Over at Nanning, movement is still seen out of the city toward the east, and the hex between Nanning and Liuchow is now empty. The 2EB air strikes were very effective in spite of the terrain and should be again as our ground troops cross the river tomorrow.

Troop count at Samah (on Hainan) has fallen from something like 9,000 to 1,500 in the last couple of days. Our units are in position and will attack tomorrow.

Kota Bharu falls.

The base is undamaged: engineers and a base force will begin landing tomorrow. The troops are still in great shape and will continue attacking to secure the island.

The troops at Naha are recovering well but of course require more time. AV is 1,949. Still some trouble getting the Iowas rearmed, I think that perhaps the loading of supply into the various AE/AKE got in the way.

China. Still lots of supply problems for us in the mountains.

How useful is tokunoshima as a base? Can it be used for air/naval support of the Okinawa operation?

It's a bit bothersome that you can't seem to use those bombardment task forces consistently. I mean, it worked before for days.. and now you are being slowed down on the bombardments....

Tokunoshima can build to airfield size 6, so definitely useful that way. Corsair squadrons are waiting to fly in as soon as the runway is ready. As a port, no I don't think it will be any help.

The good run of bombardments was until the AE/AKE began to run dry. The interruptions now are because some were still topping off their supplies. What I will do is just let them draw down again without trying to top off. When they go dry I will use a couple of cruiser TFs only until they have refilled to support full cycle bombardments.

Spreading out the AKEs/AEs to several bases will enable you to have more ops points to reload supplies on them. I would put an AKE at a smaller base and use that to top up CLs and DDs. The problem with loading the Iowas could be ops-point related or size of AE. You need something like 5200 ton capacity to arm those guns and there is a 5400 ton capacity AE available by converting the xAKs that had the 5800 ton capacity. I think there is even one size larger AE the allies can make but IIRC it meant using up a fast ship that was needed for fast amphib forces.

The Iowas rearmed fine from the smaller number of AE/AKE when Daito Shoto was a size 1 port (now it's 2), so I know that equation is covered.

There has been no place else to spread things out. Sailing all the way to Iwo Jima adds several days to the round trip, which does not solve the problem. Now that Tokunoshima is ours, I still won't post any there. Too vulnerable. When we get Naha that will be more defensible.

That "supply(-)" in the forest accross the river from Wuchow doesn't bode well for Andav. That unit has been out of contact with the enemy for some time and had open supply pathes to many bases including Hong Kong during that time.

Either it is a one time effect or he has barely enough supply in that whole area.

I noticed that too. We'll be taking some LI away from the Empire with Nanning and Wuchow, a little additional with Canton, and then a lot more with Hong Kong.

Despite disruption from the river crossing, all units are moving east to try and catch the enemy that exited the city before the attack. A number of base forces are moving in by strat road movement from Lang Son and should arrive in one or two days. Samah actually had 6,000 troops but is lacking in AV - so it seems the combat squads have been flown out. The attack there and on the zombies will continue tomorrow. Day after tomorrow for the crossing attack into Wuchow.

We got 19x Light Industry and 19x Resources in good working order at Nanning.

Still moving on the Malay Peninsula & Sumatra. Attack at Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

All troops at Naha need rest, but only our troops are getting it, because the rearming cycle at Daito Shoto is back in full swing. AV at Naha is 1,978. Two fleet CV TF are retiring to Guam to rearm. At the rate that dive bombers are being shot down by enemy CAP, getting replacement planes is a capital idea, too.

Lots of action in the air over China. The Empire ambushed our fighters attacking troops in the north for about 3 to 1 in their favor, and some Helen raids tried to strike our troops bearing down on Wuchow. Those raids ended very badly for them. The crossing into Wuchow will be tomorrow. East of Nanning our armoured unit has caught 4x enemy units and will attack tomorrow, but there are good chances the 10,500 of them will slip across the river into Liuchow and join the 51,000 troops there. despite the numbers, I am confident that the clear terrain at Liuchow will allow us to break into it quickly with air support. BTW, in addition to industry captured, Nanning is back to giving us 20 daily supply.

Kuala Lumpur is ours.

CA Northhamptom was our only loss. Three CVE are heading back to Pearl Harbor for repairs. Two CVE TF are retiring to Guam to rearm so that sorties are high during the upcoming invasion of Amami Oshima. The other two CVE TF are puling back 1 hex to join the fleet CV TF there, just SW of Tokunoshima. Several cruisers and destroyers were beat up and will head back for repairs. As mentioned previously a number of those cruisers already needed attention.

Tokunoshima now sports a size 1 airfield and has taken two squadrons of P-47D25 from Daito Shoto. The naval construction regiments unloaded completely but the base force convoy was chased away (although not caught!) and must now return to finish depositing troops and equipment.

AV at Naha is 2,002 and the next assault will be tomorrow. Last night included the Iowas bombarding and they will do so again tonight provided they can get there due to ops points. The 4x North Dakota/South Carolina class fast BB on station SW of Tokunoshima will also bombard. And of course, everyone else available.

China.

Well, that surface TF sortie was really entertaining! One has to hand it to andav, he's really fighting on

It's too bad for him that no cruisers made it against the CVE. It could have been much more bloody for you.

Java is not entirely green! No more red dots or troops anywhere

About the war in China. After Liuchow, will you keep advancing towards the interior along that direction? Towards Changsha, or even deeper towards Chungking? Or keep advancing mainly along the coast, with an eye to Shangai? Do you plan to build up some airfields along the way, or will you just use the big ones already present there?
