Subject:2003 Tank Challenge

Send your name and your preferences M4 or PzIVh(a bit weak in the @$$ but ah well)

Seems the tanks have yet to be determined!!!

But I think I'd need someone kind enough to organize the play-offs, I'm not sure I could match the players correctly since I don't know who's more experienced etc.

-------------------------
--The great 2003 Tank Challenge--

Inspired from the tank fight treads!

A challenge for you M4 and Katz lovers
(stop hiding and kissing in the trees and face your ultimate nightmare):

1- All M4 drivers compete one on one against each other until there is only one winner, this way we will know who is the best M4 driver.

2- Same as above but for Katz lovers.

3- Each of the winner of 1 and 2 above will fight it out to determine the ultimate killing machine.

Version 7.1.

M4A3 (76)w vs. Pz IVh

As suggested from Bernie:
Round-robin setup, to eliminate (as much as possible) flukes, luck (good & bad), and simple mistakes.

-At the start it be best 2 out of 3, each player on each "side" playing against each other player on the same side.

-Then come semi-finals, also 2 out of 3, but against only one opponent from the semi-finalists.

-Then the finals, the best 2 on each side play 5 out of 7 against each other (same side) to determine the best on each side.

-Then a best 2 out of 3 between the best of both sides.

Still not official rules.

Size and map yet to be determined.

Stay tuned!

Ya we need a scen, I dont what size would be best!

And I think there still is an issue about the tanks to be used on either side for the best face-off!

For now I think it's this:

M4A3 (76)w vs. Pz IVh

Judge Bernie? Doesn't quite have enough "ring" to it to get picked up by any of the major networks... :)

I appreciate the honor guys, but my dance card is kinda full these days. My business is now picking up again after a long winter hiatus, in fact, I'm about to hire two new people the workload has gotten so bad. But I'll be happy to sit on the sidelines and make funny comments. :)

Don't bother trying to match players, or sort by experience. The whole point of this excercise is to find the best of the best. You can put any M4 driver against any other M4 driver and see who wins. Keep doing it until you have the King of The M4, then do the same for the Kats. Then just pit the two kings against each other for the final showdown.

ready to start the journey to pounding on some M4's!!!

I prefer a Kat (Panther or Tiger) but if the M4 boys are too scared of those...I'll acccept the Pzkw IV (h or j models) too.

I get the feeling that either Jess or Benedict...er, um Hawk I mean....will be the "M4 Bucket of Bolts" finalist. :D

Slim pickings for candidates on that side of the fence so far...where's those other two or three M4 lovers that were around for a while? They must have been returned to the ward by the guys in white with the butterfly nets! lol :D ;) :p

Will be 7.1, I'll give you command of a Panzer gruppe for now!

It seems I'll have to sign Hawk and Jess twice:D

a couple of questions: In the first phase will it be mirror match of Katz's vs Katz's or will one player have to use the USA? #2 The type and size of the Kompfgruppe. Will there be any recon units or any other type of support? # What kind of "Pref" options ? will all options be on ? Mech break down, weapon break down ect? Just wanting to get a feel of the set-up.

IMHO, breakdowns should be off for these battles, and at least for the prelims, it should be Kat on Kat and M4 on M4. Continue that way until you have two semi-finalists in each group, then pit them agaisnt the other side until only one from each is left.

Count me in if I can have a British-improved M4 with a lil' old 17 pdr gun  ;)

Seriously though, if this is a 1 tank per side thing why not let the player choose which tank they want BUT they only get 100 points worth. This is assuming use of the scenario editor to setup games. You adjust the exp/mor numbers until the value of the unit is = 100 (or as near as dammit). So you can have that Kingtiger but it's going to be of very low quality. Or you could have a super-elite T-34/76. Or an average StuG. Etc ...

Just an idea :)

Make that 120 points per tank ...

That would give you a M4A3 (76) W at 60/60 vs. a PzKpfw-IVj at 72/72.

SPWAW points system thinks that the M4 is better :)

You can count me in on this as a M4 driver, whatever the format is :) I think Bernie's CTF map would be great.

In case anyone is interested though I have made a list of what you can get for 120 points. This is with fixing morale at 70.

IMHO we are trying too hard to make things "equal" between the M4's and the Kats. Isn't the whole purpose of this to finally prove which is better? I say we should just let each competitor choose his/her favorite tank, let the game choose some random stats for it, and have at it. With a "best 2 out of 3" prelim, and a "best 5 out of 7" semi-finals, the laws of averages should make it even, without our having to jump through hoops to "manufacture" an even match, yet still keep each tanks inherent good and bad points.

I'd expand that to include any German armor the player cares to use, up to and including the Tiger.

Well OK but what if all the Katz players get Kingtigers ... ? M4 drivers stand very little chance.

How about any M4 variant versus either a Panther or a standard Tiger?

Hold on guys. The Kat guys have always claimed that just about any tank can kill M4's. The you get the M4 guys that say their M4's can kill any Kat out there (of course, for some reason, they always take the E8:rolleyes: ). They made the boastful claims, let them back it up. If they say they can kill Kats, then they should fight Kats.

Goblin

PS- Bel, I call a PzIV useless as far as the game goes. It is not very well represented in the game, ask Orzel, he agrees.

Note that I said "...up to and including the Tiger"

The King Tiger came after. Of course, this is all open to debate amongst the competitors. If the M4 contingent thinks they can handle a King Tiger, and want to allow it...

By that reasoning, any German tank of the war is eligible. Even that venerable Kat toy, "The Maus" :)

(Listening to cries from the Kat Kontingent, "Yes! Let them eat Maus!")
