Turn 11. May/June 1941. Trade.

No changes to any trade deals. Trade's the same as last turn.

Initiative (Pre): I'm calling it a night. The next item of interest is who's going to win the initiative. I haven't rolled so even I won't know until tomorrow, or when, I get back to the game.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Initiative.

First roll. Axis 5, Allied 9. No modifier so the final roll is 5-9, allies win. The axis choose to re-roll. The axis win ties, but the allies have a +1 modified due to the axis choosing to re-roll.

Second roll. Axis 7, pretty good but then Allied 8. Final roll 7-9, allies. The allies choose to go first.

Allied #1. Weather.

On the up side for the axis, at least the weather is fine.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #1. RN. Cape St. Vincent.

One critical area in which the axis keep ships and subs at sea in was Cape St. Vincent. Neither side attempted to initiate combat. The RN being content with replacing the 4 CPs lost there last turn and establishing full resource flow through that area. And the axis not having the strength to challenge the RN escorts.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #1. RN. The East Med.

The CW also used their naval to beef up their air and naval patrols in the East Med. The CW used their 3 air missions to place 2 fighters and 1 NAV in the 3 box.

The CW chose to initiate combat there after which the Germans and Italians added 2 fighters (total) and 3 NAVs (total) to the 1 box.

Both sides found each other, however, the search result favored the RN with all their carriers being able to isolate the 3 RM ships in the 3 box.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #1. RN. The East Med. Naval Battle. Round 1.

Not a great result but at least a tolerable one for the RN. The Italian battleship in the 3 box is damaged and forced to abort. The remaining two Italian heavy cruisers, though not damaged, are forced to abort. This for now, leaves the highest Italian presence in the East Med in the 2 box.

Both sides decide to stay but neither side finds the other so the naval combat ends.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #1. Northern China.

With the Japanese failure to take Sian it looks like the communist Chinese have withstood Japans attempt to cripple them. It's expected that Japan will pull the forces back slightly and position them for a stalemate in this theater. No to do so could risk encirclement. The communist Chinese don't suffer from the same attack weakness as the Nationalist do.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Japan. Land Combat. Hanoi, French Indo-China. Southern China.

Japan aligns French Indo-China. The USA reacts and adds 1 chit to the Japanese entry pool.

Japan takes a land action and carries out two land combats. The first is an automatic attack against the partisan, that changed sides with Japan aligned French Indo-China, to get "liberate" the non-oil RP being held by the partisan.

The second is not automatic but is Japan's first on the Blitz table against China. The attack costs Japan their mech division. However, this attack was a victory for Japan.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Japan. Ground Strike. Southern China.

Prior to the land combat against the Chinese 5-3, Japan did conduct a ground strike on the unit which failed to disorganize it. However, this ground strike was opposed by the Chinese fighter unit which was shot down by an escorting Japanese fighter unit.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Japan. Northern China.

The Japanese conducted no land combat or air missions against the communist in northern China. The Japanese did, however pull back and a defensive line anchored on the eastern mountain ranges in the Hansi and Honan Providences.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Italy. Naval. Red Sea.

Italy takes a naval and unlike Germany, does not declare war on the Soviet Union.

Italy uses their naval to move a heavy cruiser into the 4-box of the Red Sea, which provides supply to the Italian non territorial land units in East Africa. Both the Italians and the CW, for different reason, choose not to initiate combat. The Italians for not wanting to jeopardize supply and the CW for not wanting to risk the loss of their artillery division on transport.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Italy. Naval. The Eastern Med.

Italy brings in what additional ships they can to reinforce their patrols in the East Med. Italy does not want a naval combat so the pass on trying to initiate one. However, the RN does want battle and as the non-phasing player they are successful in forcing one. Both sides are successful in their search rolls and a naval air battle ensures.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Italy. Naval. The Eastern Med. Naval Air Battle. Round 1.

The first round of battle is one-sided. An Italian heavy cruiser is damaged and forced to abort. Another heavy cruiser and an Italian battleship are also forced to abort. The RN suffer no losses or see any of their ships forced to abort.

Both sides decide to stay. And both sides roll a 10 for search ending the battle there because neither side could find the other.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Germany. Barbarossa

German declares war on the Soviet Union. The USA reacts by adding a chit to the Germany/Italy entry pool. The Germans take a land action. After careful consideration they decide against doing any ground strikes. All air used was used in ground support. In fact, with the doubling of ground support for the surprise impulse, Germany got 58 factors of ground support spread across 9 land combats carrier out against the Soviets this impulse. The screen cap below shows the situation in the Soviet Union after the finish of all 9 land combats. The attacks went well for the Germans.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Germany. Barbarossa. Land Combat 1 & 2.

Victory both these land combats was assured. However, the first land combat carried with it modest risk of attacker losses and disorganization. The German player rolled well enough where that didn't happened.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Germany. Barbarossa. Land Combat #5.

The last of the 5 land combat assault attacks. This one was automatic and carried no risk. Germany rolled poorly and has the German player my hope was that they got low rolls out of their system.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Germany. Barbarossa. Land Combat #6 & 7.

First two of four blitz land combats. While victory is assured staying organized and not losing units isn't. Germany rolled well for both attacks.

By the way, there are 4 German and 1 Romanian HQ unit on the Eastern Front and ready to provide reorganization support if, or when, attacks resulted in disorganization. Germany must keep their forces advancing and the Soviets retreating, or better yet destroyed.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Germany. Barbarossa. Land Combat #8 & 9.

Germany continues to roll well.

On the last Blitz attack (bottom screen cap), I saw a 2 pop up for the die roll. This made my heart flutter a bit, however, the 2 was for the fractional odds roll. For the attack itself, Germany rolled a 17.
