Praise for Peter and Toth playtesters

Praise for Peter and Toth playtesters - 3/29/2016 6:02:35 PM

I have read all of the Toth forum posts. My opinion is that people are going to complain to just complain. I have been playing games for 35+ years, yes I had the first Squad Leader and the first ASL, well heck, I owned and operated a gaming store just because of the love. In 35 years I have yearned to play Squad Leader/ASL as much as I wanted, and finding opponents has largely been a hassle especially in the last 20+ years, even with a game store finding opponents who would like to learn the rules and play regularly was challenging. I now have Toth, with the ASL mod it is almost exactly what I wanted and thought of. I will use Idjester's idea of Teamviewer to play multiplayer when players want to and be happy playing the AI, with classic scenarios, user created scenarios, or just enjoying making and playing my own. I am positive improvements will be made and additions added. This is classic wargaming, no intense graphics, no rush to do something, just plain good times. I am positive the older gamer Grognards like me know of what I speak. I played SPWAW because there was'nt a computer ASL, a good game by the way. Having written games myself, I can see how much you care for your creation and are trying to answer all questions and concerns people have. Who here can remember spending 8 hours setting up a game of NATO, or Napoleans Battles just to have the cat knock everything down, or spend all summer painting miniatures for a game you cannot find someone to play with, heck just reading the ASL rules constantly hoping to find another who wants to play as much as you do. Thank you for your hard work and for the playtesters who got the opportunity to help you with this game. Keep up the Good Work. It is appreciated.

Most of the post is very good. Except for the people complaining just to complain. I bet most on here have full-time jobs so don't have time for that kind of behavior. What people are looking for is improvements. You see that on all gaming forums. And usually it leads to a better game down the road.

Pardon, I in no way meant to imply that the majority of the people on the forums are complaining, only wanted to let Peter know that in my opinion stay on target (which by what he has responded back in a few posts, shows he is), there will always be nay-sayers, and yes I agree, players voicing their opinion's about things they would like to see is all part of the development process. Toth has only been released (as far as I know) since late Feb, my goodness I am sure we have all played games were millions were spent in development and for some, they will never be happy. The ZERO patch only a few days later was a great improvement and the one he is working on now, I am sure will be just as good. It was not written to be critical of anyone just to let the developer and his people know that thanks and merit are called for. Hopefully someone can make the colored deployment numbers a different color so they will be easier to see, you know the tiny numbers in the hex that tell you which one is which. I appreciate your comment and no ill will directed at anyone.

Thanks for your post and no problem. I think that the forum is a very positive addition to the game. Nice to check in everyday and see all the interesting stuff being posted. Like UP844's map today which is amazing.

I'll raise a toast to this thread.- My first PC was purchased to play Command HQ and M1 Tank platoon. If it was Late 80's early 90's again all over I'm sure I would have done the same for this game.(I think I paid forever to pay off that PC too)

I will add to the chorus.

Only reason I don't have it yet is cash flow (ok and I've bought a few romance novels and a couple of models recently..... :) ).

But I would like to give it a spin.

It's how I like to see war games made visually speaking. 3d and real time don't do it for me, looking like a board game usually does.

I'm still kinda in a bit of shock it's even here to be honest. "Oh no one is ever going to be able to recreate Squad Leader".
