Hi all,
New to the forums and I have mostly been following GJ's AAR. I haven't caught up to the current turn yet so please, no spoilers.
The real reason i'm here to to make sure GJ is properly censured for for spreading GreyJoy-isms throughout his AAR. I was never a great geography student in school (and to be sure, that was a long time ago ), so I sometimes find it difficult to locate place names on a map whenever they are refered to in the posts. When the defendant introduced GreyJoy-isms into the dialog...well...I just started to cry!!!!
Spootecootra!!!
Etubrutu!!!
Lugaville???!!!
Where ARE these places???
Are they on Earth??? Tatooine???
:::sigh:::
Ok....I'm done.
I'm going back to post 2446 now.
Like GJ, I'll "soldier on" and try to figure out which planet this game is fought on
Nice tallik' with you kind folks...

Not your fault Mike, but mine for having an easy four-letter password. I have been warned before by friends, but one doesn't learn till they get hacked.

Des should sumarily be demoted to DivePac87 for failing to follow security protocol. After which he should be promoted back to DivePac88 for the whole "Lazarus" thing. All will then be right with the world and exactly as it was before the whole thing blew up a few weeks ago.

Heard rumor of a chap who forgot to watch the "upgrade-why, yes please" that remains at "yes" each time you complete - option and lost most of his DD escorts, an odd cruiser, and an occasional CV on the way to major engagements whilst stopping for fuels and a quick two day R&R rest and system recoveries... rather than just picking up a few Kiwis or Mangoes from the locals and moving on with the fleet the captains decided they liked the ports soooo much they'd stay for 21 days or so....  not once, not twice, but many times....

I must through myself on the mercy of the court. I just lost Wasp to a IJN Death Star off Noumea. On her trip down from the WC I had set all her squadrons to train. I failed to reset them to combat before sending her to battle. I have no excuse for my actions other then "I r stupid"

I must present myself to the mercies of this court. I had invaded, captured and started building up Tanna, Erromango and Anatom (sp? - my game is at home so I can't see the map here) as the first step to reclaiming the New Hebrides. The bases are nicely established, so I figured that I would create some PTs there for self defense as well as some LCTs to share supplies among them. However, I forgot that i had no fuel there and an IJN task force of light cruisers and destroyers showed up before I could get some in... all LCTs and all but one PTs were lost in the affair...

ok, I really have no excuses.. long time player etc blah blah blah
so, I am trying to bait the Ign, and its too early, or I am too paranoid in me pbem game to go after his carriers in there base areas.. so I run slow bb group up in solomons to bombard his ports, hoping for a reaction so I can reverse death satar his ass.. his cv show up, I turn all my surface fleets around and start to move my cv groups up .. and oopsi, I forgot one small bb group... walks right up to his cv groups and says, please try to sink me! the Warspite actually lived too... or some brit bb.. and barely... lots of float and sys damage...
that was far worse than loading an invasion fleet and short fueling in, and while it loitered around awaiting other tf's assiegned to invade, I noticed it was very low, so it took all my prepped inf to safe port to refuel, only the port had no fuel.. and the nearest fuel had to be shipped up as the entire coast was dry, and I was syphoning off fuel from unused aks! good grief, by the time these guys got fuel I landed the follow up waves, which where not prepped, so I dumped the troops for the next base and they got masacred by a jap cv group .. lost 2/3 of a division, all because I failed to plan the fuel... oops

It sure is nice being an allied player ... where my losses get replaced....
Worst ever, these last two where in the last two months of plem, late 42...
Worst ever was a cv group .. I did not know I could not run my cap at 100...
oops... needless to say that lessen was learned as lots of cv went down in a misserable pbem but kicking..

Today I just got wrecked in a CV duel by the AI. Thank goodness it's JuanG's Enhanced Carrier mod, so the CV losses won't hurt too much in the long run, but I think it'll take years to replace the cruiser losses. And the kicker: I chose this fight for the sake of it, even though my carriers were enroute to cover the evacuation of Port Moresby. Well, those guys are gonna starve if my float planes can't get em out now...

So it started when IJN CVs attacked my base at Suva. This part went well for the most part. My CAP was shredded by a coordinated strike but a lightly escorted Val group was shot down nearly to the last plane. So I decided to seek battle with 3 carriers, since Saratoga (whom the others were supposed to follow), had gotten quite ahead of the rest. The next day, I get 8-hex striked by the IJN, and Enterprise gets mauled and knocked out of action. Since she's still burning, I decide to send her 2 hexes to Noumea, and order the three remaining carriers to take up position 1 hex away. I also move half (should've moved all...) the fighters at Suva to Noumea.

The next day, Enterprise TF was at Noumea, and Saratoga and Hornet TFs 1 hex away. Essex was 2 hexes to the SE; I clearly fail at setting up the follow function. Over the course of the day the IJN fighters and bombers plastered Saratoga, Essex, and then Hornet. BC Constellation took a half dozen torps and many bombs, and several of my cruisers were also ruined. Flak did little, if anything. It's truly a pity it came out before the flak fix was devised. Eight SBDs and 5 Vals and Kates were lost to flak, despite the presence of BCs, CLAAs, and large carriers.

In return, I had one reasonably coordinated strike, and several smaller ones. In addition to worse planes with less experienced pilots, the weather was against me (moderate rain vs light cloud over my ships). A few of my bombers broke through, but scored zero hits. Nothing. One CV and 1 BC already sunk, others probably to follow, and nothing to show for it. I've seen plenty of PBEM
Fortunately, after this day of carnage the AI sends its carriers back towards Suva.

There was a bright side: the Japanese sent CA raiders back to Midway without air cover, and this time I was ready, and SBDs sent two of them, plus a destroyer to the depths. But that was a freebie, like the AI is throwing me bones to keep playing.

Losses so far: BC Constellation, CV Enterprise (with most fighters and all bombers, due to the eight hex strike. What a waste). Saratoga is dead in the water with small fires still burning, she'll almost certainly go down. Essex and Hornet will limp back to Brisbane, where I'll concentrate every fighter in Australia cause the AI does like to raid the Aussie Coast. CA Louisville, Northhamption, and Salt Lake City are crippled and making under 10 knots, as is CL Brooklyn. Any of them, and CV Essex, could sink, and are easy prey for the subs in between them and Australia. The silly game engine gave CV Hornet 1 DD for an escort, so she also had a good chance to hit a sub and sink before I can get more escorts to her.

In the air, 242 allied aircraft to 65 Japanese. 150+ pilot casualties.

Conclusion: A black, black day for the US Navy. If I was in a PBEM on 2 day turns, I'd definitely have lost 3 CVs, 1 BC 3 CA and a Brooklyn CL. I get more reinforcements in this mod, but losing a dozen good cruisers would've still hurt bad. Maybe I shouldn't have chosen House Stark as my username, it's luck seems to have followed me in this game.
I think I'm not gonna try for a PBEM just yet, if this is what the AI does to me...

Im very new to AE and was enjoying reading of others' mistakes, when I noticed that on the same turn i have made three boneheaded mistakes that are unacceptable to myself, and possibly worthy of this Court's attention.

1) In an effort to repell the invasion of PM i had several SCTF operating around PM. Intel reported several large enemy formations embarked and headed to Port Morseby, but not when, so i had to patrol for an extended time. No problem i had several oilers available so i sent them to Port Morseby to replenish my fleets-only after a week of travel and arrival on station did i realize that they were empty. Luckily the enemy came 2 days later and i repelled it, thus this is a mere anecedote in ineptitude by myself and not, i believe, cause for dismissal from service.

2) While trying to evacuate a unit from Victoria point, i thought it was taking a long time to fly the units out by PBY. After finally accomplishing this, after nearly a week of effort, i moved the PBY's out of Rangoon to points safer. Only then did i realize i had them set to 80% training.

3) Since the start of hostililtes i have gotten nearly 300k supplies into rangoon for shipment into China. By all accounts this was a successful endeavor but I couldn't for the life of me get enough supply into Changsa, and by extension those bases that rely on Changsa for supply. After beating my head against a wall trying to figure it out, i finally noticed that Changsa was REPAIRING damaged industry, so the suppliles were being used up as soon as they were delivered.

In summary I leave myself to the court's judgement, and hang my head in shame for smugly assuming I had any Idea what i was doing in this game.

Regards,
Gmoney

I once sent a bunch of troops via strategic RR movement to a base threatened by enemy ground forces. My boys got there in time before the enemy forces entered the base hex, but after arrival I forgot to change the operations mode from "Strategic Move(RR)" to "Combat"...

I've sent large off-map convoys from the East Coast without having them loaded up with supplies and/or fuel. Basically two months of sailing without anything to show for it.
Not a mistake I'll make for an 8th time. So how many Roseries and Hail Mary's do I recieve?

In my first GC game (against the AI) I decided at the outset to move the BF unit at Diego Garcia to Cox's Bazar. So I sent an xAP with sufficient capacity to load it up. It could not dock at the small port so it loaded offshore [via lighters, I guess]. When it got to the heavier equipment -like the 5" CD guns, they got dropped in the water. I thought it might be an anomaly and left it load for another day. Next day, another 5" gun lost in the drink. So, in disgust I sent the xAP to Cox's Bazar and find an xAK to take the remaining guns. The xAP arrives at C'sB but cannot dock, so I send it to Chittagong and the BF fragment has to march overland to C'sB.
Days later the XAK shows up at Diego Garcia but it can't dock either. I figure - what the hey, it must have cargo cranes, so I try to load - NADA. I figure, drat it, the ship is too big to dock, so I send it away and find an xAKL. More days pass and the little ship arrives and DOCKS! Hurray - at last I can load these *#!! CD guns. Next day it is still there, nothing loaded. OK - so maybe it doesn't like amphib loading so I change it to Transport and have the BF remnant pack for Strat Move. Days later it is ready and I run the turn - NADA LOADED!! After some choice words and frantic manual leafing I find no answers but it hits me anyway - the guns won't load without their crew and the xAKL doesn't take passengers - so solly meestah!
D'OH! [head-slap here].
Find another xAP and send it to DG. Days later I have an xAP and xAKL convoy and commence loading - hooray. Only one gun loads on the xAKL ... . Well, OK, nothing I can do about it - send the convoy to C'sB. My memory gets fuzzy here but I think the xAK could not unload and the xAP refused to because it was Transport and could not dock. Sent them both to Chittagong. Unloaded. Cannot Strat move to C'sB, so set the unit to "Move" mode. The troops move but no 5" gun followed! WTHeck?? Never figured out why but I assume a dirt road cannot take a truck large enough to move such a gun?? Sent the convoy back to get the remaining gun and the same thing happened on its return.
By this time it is six weeks or more into the game and the Japanese are advancing through Burma while the Newbie In Charge of the allies does all the wrong things with the land units. Before long the garrisons at Cox's Bazar and Chittagong are wiped out, and my CD gun headache ends! Thank you IJA!
