This one takes us to France '40.
AAR: Rampaging Char B by Wesley Bult
Germany vs France
Location: Mortiers, France
Date: 17 May 1940.
Played as the Germans with all options, except Reduced Squads, on.
Mission: I command 7th Company, 2nd Battalion, Pz Rgt 1 in this scenario which is at Mortiers. The French launch a spoling attack with a lone Char B1 tank. I have to destroy it, if I can./
Deployment: Under my command I have a 3 tank platoon of Pz 3's, a PSW 221, 2 recon teams, 2 pioneer teams, a 20mm AA gun and 7th Co HQ, with it's transport vehicle. The French tank comes in from the west side of town. Initally, all I have on board are 2 recon teams, the AA gun, and the PSW. All elements - except the PSW are on the west side of town, the PSW covers the lone objective hex.
Turn One: The tank comes down the road into town and is engaged by the 20mm gun. 3 hits are scored to no effect - not suprising.
Turn Two: The tank advances down the road. It gets assaulted by the lead recon team, pauses, destroys the building the recon team is in,then it advances another 100m and is assaulted by the 2nd recon team, again not successfully. The recon teams start to fall back, as the 20mm AA scores 4 more hits, to no effect.
Turn Three: The enemy tank - rattled by the AA fire, drops back into a field. Our pioneers arrive and head for the front as the recon teams keep redeploying.
Turn Four: The tank emerges from the field having used it to try and bypass the AA gun as my panzers arrive. My pioneers and recon troops race to where I want them - not there yet. The tank kills one of my recon troops as well. The AA gun scores 4 side hits, the last of which damages the enemy tanks suspension. My panzers advance.
Turn Five: The Char pulls back, ducking between some houses. One of my recon teams and both pioneer teams are in position. Co HQ arrives, following the tanks. The AA gun can still see the Char and scores 5 more hits. I try and set up and ambush with my Panzers.
Turn Six: The Char advances, apparently suprising my waiting Panzers. It gets a volley off, but misses. The AA gun scores 5 more hits, with one more damaging the suspension of the Char. Then fortune smiles on us. The first shot from a Panzer disables the enemy's suspension! The next 9 shots score 2 misses and 7 bounces though.
The tank crew surrenders then. We lose one man and take 5 prisoners and the tank. We win 645 to 2 with a DV. I did get some lucky hits to slow the Char down.
This is a very fun little scenario.
